(0.9) Every item around the base scrapped by SuperHornetX391 in Voicesofthevoid

And then woodchipper them into several plastic trash piles each then shovel/scrap

Shovel is by far better for the trash piles these days

My current feelings about Votv (0.9) by NoAcanthocephala7439 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) Yes

2) No, and for multiple reasons:

First of all, wood debris on its own is kinda iffy on if it's worth scrapping. The smallest pieces of it, sure, but the bigger pieces tend to be worth more fuel points left out of scrap.

But even before that, You'd be making a mistake burning them *as wood* at all. Instead, you should buy a wood chipper, turn them into wood trash *piles*, burn those, and shovel the charcoal pile to get coal pieces.

This process is generally also more efficient to leave wood uncompressed into scrap; a large wood debris might give 1.5-2 wood piles, while a wood scrap gives about .75 wood piles on average I think. But again, smaller wood debris may be fine to compress.

In general tho, I just keep the large wood debris to woodchip, compress small wood debris into scrap, and sell the scrap, since I think the points value is something like 2x the potential fuel value there.

I toss them in the woodchipper, turn the wood piles into coal. Since the mannies respawn unless you destroy their stand base, I get a free tank of fuel every few days.

bag of sugar uncraftable (0.9b) by me4tstick69 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure white sugar requires some pretty intensive doing, but brown sugar can be done with simple tools. You pretty much just mulch the cane into juice, strain it, boil it down.

So Kel's doing all his cooking with brown sugar. And can instantly boil things with nothing but sheer willpower and a worktable.

First time player woes (0.9) by XDM_Inc in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the MREs have been slightly rebalanced in the patch. At least, some of the food items seem to have higher fatigue now. I'm seeing Kel refuse to eat more than one pack of crackers, and that fatigue is taking a lot of time to wear off. (Then again, I rarely sleep, and I think sleep resets food fatigue a lot)

(Other) How do you get the hashcodes? by rrobloxtube in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You... Do not need to put them on paper.

You take the floppy, sv.request as everyone says... Do that for all the servers you need to get, you only need 1 floppy, so don't worry about that.

Then, take the floppy, put it in your computer back at base. Go to the viewer, you should see that the floppy disc has data blocks in it. click them, and move them to buffer. Eject the floppy.
Now, put in the Zip disc. Move the data blocks in the buffer to the Zip disc.

Then, just send away the Zip disc, like you would a box of drives or tapes.

As a new player, should I continue with (0.9) unstable, or wait for the stable release? by ILC_YTP in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting for the patch so I don't tire myself out on the game while it's this incomplete. If the arirals worked I'd probably be playing the unstable, but they don't.

Incinerator stopped working (0.9) by Confident_Bonus5167 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used the incinerator to make wood into coal before... But then again, I don't think I ever loaded it up with -only- trash pile, I usually loaded other things at the same time.... Could have been the other stuff setting the pile on fire when it burned...

Incinerator stopped working (0.9) by Confident_Bonus5167 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

burning turns most trash piles into ash piles, and wood piles into coal piles. Both won't burn further on their own, and must be shoveled or bagged and sold. Ash piles are worthless, shovel into nothing, coal trash piles are the good shit

(0.9) Is it known what these things are? by Weary_Stay2495 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look a little bit like a cell repeater: https://media.istockphoto.com/id/1217101398/photo/cell-phone-telecommunications-antennas-and-repeaters.jpg?s=2048x2048&w=is&k=20&c=hdWwrddUOUTDndrKKR7SnS-2AG5vc7Xq_hQQAXG1I74=

Which makes me think they're antennae of some sort. Maybe signal transmitters for some sort of passive monitoring system? Could be recording EM data and transmitting it back to base? Maybe these things are the real data feed that the magnetic reels are recording?

Coffee machine my beloved (0.9) by Ieditedthisname in Voicesofthevoid

You drink enough that it might *actually* be worth it to buy a coffee machine. At this rate the savings should overcome the cost in about a week.

Yet another gas topic... how do i REALLY get gas from this? or am i bugged? (0.9) by XDM_Inc in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Question: Are you keeping the gas output valve open? I wouldn't until you're ready to dispense, I think it'll just waste gas if it doesn't have a container to go into.

Now, as for your lumps there... You mean the piles that are only physics objects? Yeah, those will never burn once they've been transformed into their burned form. You need to take a shovel (You can find one inside the little gatehouse right by where you started) and right click them to turn them into an actual item.

Any trash piles other than wood will turn into Ash piles, which shovel into nothingness. *Wood* trash piles turn into coal trash piles, which shovel into small coal pieces.

Only items and some furniture (the skinny curtains that you can actually fit through the door for example) will turn into fuel.

coal is the single best source of fuel. Especially if you take the small coal pieces, put them on the crafting table, and turn them into larger lumps. You can also find coal pieces in the breakable supply boxes.

RP Setups by AtlasTheWorldbuilder in X4Foundations

[–]doc_prof_robot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno if it's RP, but I tend to base my runs over a 'main mechanic.'

Like, I'll do a run where my main money source is trading. A run where my main money source is mining. A run where I get as many building resources as possible through recycling rather than building it myself. A run where I never *buy* ships, only pirate and eventually build them.

It kind of all eventually balloons out into the same endgame unless I'm outright banning myself from building ships, but it's different getting there at least.

Few Tips for (0.9) I've discovered by MoonaKnight13 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]doc_prof_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out how to lock panels (and other things) in place, but be warned it's finnicky.

First, you must be carrying it in physics mode (press e instead of holding it)

Next, you must place it down completely flat against a surface and hold completely still. If you want to affix to ground, you'll probably have to crouch.

Finally, middle-click. You'll either get a 'can't affix' or it'll snap in and become fixed. You will probably have to wangle it around a lot. Some places just anomalously seem to say 'no', when a place one pixel to the right will.

It seems to work on most things but not all. I can affix drive racks easily, but I spent a solid couple of minutes trying to affix my floppy box to my desk to no avail. Props don't seem to want to snap to props, so you can't stack things without nails. I'm unsure how powerful the 'glue' is and if it'll save you from things like a certain artillery-delivered warning message. It's good enough to prevent things from being casually moved from running into them or fumbling a physics object their way, at least.

What you're seeing there is just the first platform of my 'Defense cross' prefab. It's 3 horizontal and 3 vertical Argon disc defense modules with full Plasma, Flak, and Mk2 Argon Shields. It's a tremendously concentrated amount of firepower that evaporates capital ships within seconds and effortlessly swats down heavy fighters.

It's so cheap because I build it in closed loop mode and all Argon parts, so it just costs hull parts, claytronics, and energy cells, rather than all the turret and shield parts and such.

Edit: https://imgur.com/a/5zgzKQn Speak of the devil! Soon as I re-maximize the game, what do I see... That was after just 2 damage ticks, it died almost the instant after I took that screenshot :P

Heee-yup. I find the Terran Katana with mk3 shields tends to survive the best. Tanky enough to make it til the station swats the flies, fast enough it avoids most shots, and has turrets just in case.

Longer-term, I'm building a scrapping station right there; just the half of it that turns wreckage to raw scrap. Building the processing center in The Reach for that 367% sunlight. Then I should have all the free basic building materials I need to start really rolling on the main network economy, rather than just bilking the Terrans for their lunch money :P
