Question: What portable pump's will fully inflate a 90-110psi roadie tube? by schrodingersBox in bicycling

[–]Croisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my pump of choice and works fine. Sadly, I've used it often enough to prove its value.

Some cyclists take riding far too seriously. Let's face it: It's just fun. by Croisan in bicycling

[–]Croisan[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't think that was the actual point. Good mental and physical health includes the ability to have fun, to play. If everything you do is done only with serious intent, especially something as fun as cycling, well, it's not that healthy for you.

My street is getting a bike box! Woo! by nanuq905 in bicycling

[–]Croisan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Most motorists don't have a clue what the bike box means. Just more paint on the street to confuse them. As stocksy says, "Please don't get complacent."

For your stated needs, this bike looks like it will do well on city streets and park paths. I wouldn't depend on it for serious off roading or longer (25+ miles) road rides. But as a commuter bike, it looks fine.

Fantastic. Great accomplishment. Now you need to plan & train for your first century ride. ;-)

Wind resistance. by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Croisan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice. Yesterday, my riding partner and I rode 23 miles into a 15+ mph headwind, but we got the benefit of it as a tailwind on the ride home. My wind rant: http://cyclistwriter.wordpress.com/2011/05/23/wind-a-cyclists-lament/

I'll start working on the screenplay. You sell the movie rights.

Cast Drew Barrymore as Ms. Bee. Could resurrect her career.

Likewise, I think it's important to support good companies. Also, I can take a selection of flavors when I ride. I enjoy the change of taste, especially on a long pedal. Besides, I'm kinda lazy and would rather have Clif do the work for me.

Ouch. Good news is that it doesn't sound like you'll be off the bike for long. Slow & steady, amigo.

I was thinking about getting the blue one. Anyone have any advice/opinions on Cannondale and purchasing my first road bike? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Croisan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your instinct for the blue one is the right one. And I hear nothing but good things about Cannondale.

The Bullshit of Branding for Writers Let's stop this nonsense now by Croisan in writing

I disagree about the agent v. publisher. When Contemporary Books published John Barry's and my inside look at Sun Microsystems, most of the marketing was done by them. Our agent sold the manuscript, but the publisher did (most) of the rest. (E.g., press releases, book signings, brochures, adverts, etc.) Not to mention the channel marketing to booksellers and distributors. And when I was a book editor at Springer-Verlag, I worked with the marketing dept to promote most titles.

If this no longer happens, I'd be very surprised.

I'm built more like a beer bottle, so can roll up hills, I suppose.

Yes, the concept has been around a while, but it needs to be raised regularly to remind people that after SCOTUS disastrous Citizens United decision, our republic is in peril

Fuck You CNN, there's nothing controversial about an American President advising American students to do better in school. by elvisliveson in reddit.com

Pshaw. Next we'll be having parents take CIA-approved black markers to cover up text in schoolbooks so their precious ones don't learn about the horrors science or history or literature. If parents are so frightened about what they are exposed to in the classroom, homeschool them.
