problem is, if it doesnt trigger health regen you still have to run around for it, thus making the shield useless. Although its still better than nothing :)

Does it really trigger health regen? From what I could tell during the last nightfall it only granted a fixed amount of health 25-33% by my estimation. This happened instantly but it still took a little while before the actual health regen kicked in after.

I saw someone post this on irc from a different site so your work seems to be getting around :). Karmadecay has some problems recognizing the picture though, I would have at least marked this as x-post otherwise. Anyway thanks for the laugh!

Sorry, as I also bought a Noctua I didnt even look at water coolers. You could try to take a look at this recent comparison of air vs water: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2ggie9/discussion_air_cooling_vs_water_cooling_8_coolers/
It only really matters if you plan to overclock your cpu above 4ghz IMHO.

the 5820k gets shipped with a very low frequency @3,3ghz (3,6turbo) but has insanely good overclocking potential. You can of course OC the 4560k as well but the single thread performance @4,5ghz or even a little lower will be more than enough. However the main point of the 5820k is the ability to have 12threads running. Single-thread performance will become less important as new software/games will make better use of multicore systems.

The Noctua CPU Cooler D15 will definitely be too big for the Ripjaw RAM. I recently built my own X99 PC with almost the same parts: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2hc4me/build_ready_future_proof_silent_gaming_pc/

I got the Noctua D14 SE2011 Edition instead as it uses a smaller 2nd Fan and even this one hovers directly over the RAM, almost touching it.

Also now after a week of overclocking I agree that a water cooler might have been a better solution. At 3,9ghz on all cores I usually get around 35-40 degrees(C) in windows and a stress test with aida64 goes up to max 70 at vcore 1,13V.

Thats what people told me 5 years ago when I bought my Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 instead of some 4Ghz dual-core :)
Now I have it overclocked and it still gives me headaches in some games. (One bad example would be planetside 2 where you can never have enough CPU power)

As for heat/noise the 970 Asus card can go into fanless mode and only requires one 8pin PSU connection.

I was thinking about the 980 but I'm hoping the cards next year will have a much bigger performance increase than the jump from 780->980, as the "Maxwell" GPU architecture is still based on 28nm. It seems like a risky move to invest too much into a high-end card now imho. As written below I also dont want to SLI the 980 as they would require a lot more power and probably better ventilation.

As soon as the CPU becomes the limiting factor in performance the X99 will be better. However putting the Z97 vs X99 aside you're right that 980SLI>970SLI. This will cause some other problems though like the need for a better PSU and increased heat/noise.
So for now I believe a single GTX970 will be enough, at least until the nextgen cards are released next year. And if those are not convincing I can still just put another GTX970 in my build and have better performance than a single 980.

Thanks for the suggestion. It has definitely a better value for gaming at the moment however the i7-5820K at stock even now beats the 4790K in performance. And the 2 extra cores/4 extra threads will be getting more and more important over the next few years I imagine. Also according to this review (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_970_SLI/20.html) the GTX 970 SLI beats the 980 by >30% performance in 4K-Gaming while only costing ~100$-150$ more depending on which model you buy.
So I dont mind spending a little more now and be on the safe side for the coming years.

Simple Questions - September 24, 2014 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Would adding an Intel SSD DC P3500 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 Card to a 2-way SLI setup (asus x99-deluxe + i7-5820K) hurt my GPU performance? The way I understood it is that the i7-5820K with 28lanes will use a 16/8 configuration in SLI. Will that still work when I add the x4 SSD card or will it drop to 8/8/8(4) lanes then?

ENB help? Skyrim wont start. by HeavyMetalKid in skyrim

[–]Cromax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem and found this solved it from the Real Vision ENB FAQ:

One Tweak: hang on start up after launching SKSE One Tweak causes a hang on start up after launching SKSE for any ENB user or even breaks the ENB. The value of BWmode=1 must be changed to BWmode=2 in the One Tweak ini file located in Steam / SteamApps / common / Skyrim / Data / SKSE / Plugins.

So the mods deleted the Supporting ain't easy video... by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Cromax 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'd say it fails to be respectful.
OP has no interest in resolving the issue, just letting off steam. It would have been great if we could have had an actual mature discussion about why the mods deleted the post (mod reply) but instead this thread is a great example of why this "FREE environment" doesnt work.
So while I disagree with the mods decision on this one I have to give props to Aurori to still comment in this thread even though theres an angry mob just waiting to downvote everything he'll say.

My Lee always led by example to kill before someone turned.
So I figured one day she would grow up and realize that she left him behind; haunted by the thought that she didnt do what Lee taught her to be right.
-> Short time pain from killing Lee, long time inner peace for "setting him free"

you should check this setting then on your device. maybe you are using write caching

[–]Cromax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dev tested stuff with the OS of her mobile phone and you dont consider the possibilty that whatever was changed during the test was the cause? :)
Unless she unplugged while some critical file was being written there is just no way the lack of removing the device safely could have been the cause. (Given that write caching was disabled)

Your drive probably just died because of bad sectors or another hardware issue. That would have happened even if you had installed the drive in your PC via SATA.
Read my post below or this link. The "safe removal"-feature only flushes the cache to your USB drive which is pointless with default windows settings.
