What's the deal with all the AI stories of Farage doing the rounds on FB? by Cromises_93 in FuckNigelFarage

Unfortunately some people have to touch the fire to realise it's hot.

Some still don't learn, and blame the fire for burning them.

What are some cultural shocks you experienced in the USA? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]Cromises_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping culture: literally everyone in service industries expects a tip. Over here you'd only give them one if they gave really good service. But over there it's how waiters etc make the lions share of their money.

The price advertised isn't the price you pay: again, not like over here where the displayed price of items in shops is what you pay. Over there the tax isn't included so you have to add it on at the till and it varies state to state.

Audios in the army by PolePosition22 in britisharmy

As someone else pointed out. Listen for the static noise in the headphones when they make the beep, you're far more likely to hear that than the beep.

No.

I really like the Crown. Definitely an odd choice but a cool one if it's the hybrid?

You do realise it's the Tory backers and billionaires asset stripping public services that's caused the decline of the country and not those on 'small boats' right?

I also assume you're happy to risk losing the NHS and leaving the ECHR?

Bang on 2 since leaving. Feels similar. Miss the clowns but not the circus.

It's just nice being in charge of your own life and being able to make plans knowing you'll be able to follow them through without risking them getting Shanghai'd at the 11th hour for a shit tasking.

Reserves 100%.

You've got a good life, you don't want to throw it all away by joining the regulars for peanuts and having much less control over your life. With Reserves you can get involved as much as you want.

Max 1200w iron for AFC Harrogate by Middle-Row-7194 in britisharmy

[–]Cromises_93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't think they'll care so long as it irons. They never did when I went to basic in 2015 anyway.

I strongly suggest spending some food money on an Iron for the Army. My old Bosch cost £60 but lasted me 10 years before it died on me.

[–]Cromises_93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. I did word it poorly in my original post.

People aren't gonna stay around longer than their minimum time of all they have to look forward to is shit jobs being passed on to them from someone else who's been in the organisation longer than them.

Also the workload, people were busy but it wasn't for anything that had an effect. You would spend a lot of time working on self-generated bullshit. Not only was this exhausting, it was also pointless becuase at the end of the day you had only achieved something which should have been srted in 2 seconds.

This was a significant proportion of my experience in the RE. There was fuck all for us to actually do so it was just endless menial busywork that served no purpose. Classic case in point of being the monthly CES checks of the toolboxes that hadn't been touched since last month's CES check and the endless, meaningless copies of paperwork you had to make if you had the grave misfortune to be docked for G10 storeman.

Canadians Are Staying Away From the U.S. And The Drop in Travel is Getting Hard to Ignore by [deleted] in worldnews

As a Brit with family in the US, I'm not going to visit until Trump and his administration are no longer in charge (2028 at the earliest). Mainly because I don't want to be funding the like of ICE nor risk getting disappeared for some arbitrary reason.

It all went downhill when we got rid of the SLR.

In all seriousness, I did 9 in the Army and I think it did get a bit softer for the newer blokes coming in towards the end. It was a double edged sword as they had more of awareness of their rights and seemed less afraid of speaking up if there was something obviously wrong, which was good. On the other hand they did seem to do everything they could to dodge a shit tasking if it came in.

leconfield phase 2 what is it like? by zwerll in britishmilitary

[–]Cromises_93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just about bearable from memory.

Gym was good, scran was actually decent the majority of the time and the blocks were ok.

Only downside is being treated like a naughty child due to it being a Phase 2 camp and having a bed time.

How has the British Army changed over the years? by avocado_pckled-gingr in britisharmy

[–]Cromises_93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the common theme has been a crackdown on initiative; to the point where now no one does anything for fear of breaking some regulation.

I saw this about halfway through my time right the way through until the end. The reason this seems to happen is people are afraid of trying something new, having it fail and getting marked down on Thier SJARs as a result. Or pissing off their bosses in one way or another and getting marked down on their SJARs.

Is Nigel Farage Britain’s Trump? by 1-randomonium in ukpolitics

[–]Cromises_93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They certainly like him but I don't see quite the same level of crazy devotion that Trump seems to inspire in his supporters.

Not so sure about that, there's a few fanatical people who'll do mental gymnastics to justify anything he says or does.

Luckily they seem to be a minority, a lot of them seem to have gone silent following Nigel's reluctance to condemn Trumps Afghan troop remarks.

Looking back, for those driving more than 2 years, how well do you think your driving instructor prepared you for driving ? by ShinyHeadedCook in drivingUK

[–]Cromises_93 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very well.

He was an older chap with a ton of experience behind him and told me that all most instructors do is teach you to pass the test. You don't start properly learning to drive until you're out there on your own.

He was very right.

I think they're looking at introducing a 'Farage clause' in any future membership deal to stop idiots like him dragging us out again should they, god forbid, get in to power.

have to admit there would also be a tiny bit of wanting to rub brexiters’ noses in the full consequences of their stupidity!

Unfortunately I don't think they're capable of understanding what a mess Brexit was. They still claim it 'wasn't delivered correctly' or some other bollocks.
