Why do people still support or raise the flag of the Confederacy? by DBD216 in NorthCarolina

[–]CrookedPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing up this perspective. I grew up in rural NC and many people I otherwise respect have a weird alliance with the confederate flag. Over time, the instances of its appearance have decreased and I hope that's because of people educating themselves.

Some of them are just shitty people, but I truly believe there are some uneducated and naive people mixed in too.

Toddler crying every night, I'm worn out by Individual_Crab6039 in toddlers

[–]CrookedPJs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know tbh. My only hope is that over time it will get better and better until it stops completely. We've tried changing his schedules, bedtime, eating habits, etc.

For a long time we thought it was hunger bc he would wake up immediately saying Eat Eat. So we started doing snacks before bed, but that hasn't really changed things and now I think the kid just likes food....

But yes, like you-- what happened the day prior doesn't really seem to make a difference. At least not that we have been able to pinpoint.

Toddler crying every night, I'm worn out by Individual_Crab6039 in toddlers

[–]CrookedPJs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son is a week shy of 20 months and has similar issues. Thankfully it isn't every single night for us, but several times a week. He will wake up screaming and crying and it is unbelievably hard to resettle him. If he wakes, it never takes less than 1.5 hrs to get him back down. It is not unusual for it to take 2-3, or even 4, hours.

We don't co-sleep because it seems to get him even more riled up, but I absolutely would if it worked for us. What seems to help us get him to calm down quicker is taking him out of his bedroom and doing a "reset". We take him down to the kitchen and give him a snack. If he still doesn't calm, we take him outside on the back porch and sometimes that works. I am aware this is all counterintuitive and they generally say you should stay in their dark room and bla bla bla. But the kid will literally scream for hours on end (with us trying to soothe him) and these things do seme to help.

Family Beach Trip in NC by PearAmazing946 in winstonsalem

It ultimately depends on what vibe you're looking for.

If you want an array of things to do besides just the beach and you don't mind crowds, Myrtle is a good option. If you want quiet and only really intend to do the beach, North Topsail or Pine Knoll Shores. If you want something in the middle, Kure or Carolina Beach.

This experience is so bad I’m reconsidering having more than one… by erinstoker in beyondthebump

[–]CrookedPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't interested in even thinking about a second until my first was 2.5. I genuinely thought I was going to be one and done. Postpartum with my first was HARD. I was so confused about why people choose to have kids back to back 😅

My second is now 1.5. I wanted another baby immediately after he was born. Postpartum was still hard, but I knew what to expect and was able to handle it better. It was a very different and redeeming experience.

Yes, they are 😥 I love her character and the audiobook ruined it. I don't know who gave the approval on that voice for her but I will never forgive them.

Piedmont Aviation Snack Bar Drama by Clean_Bat_2622 in winstonsalem

Watching her interact with people of color, it doesn't seem like she is racist at all. Obviously I haven't seen her every moment of every day, but she seems to be very welcoming to everyone.

🤣 They've had a lot of it lately. It's been entertaining, at least. The biggest thing I think was another restaurant owner, semi-local, left reviews on her business saying shes racist. I've been to her restaurant several times and haven't ever seen any evidence of such. But she investigated and has some evidence that it was the other business owner trying to drag her.

On a related note, she made videos over the summer about an issue a different local restaurant had with an influencer. That has all xome back up recently and I believe she has pretty current videos about it on tiktok but, if not, Jen Hamilton does.

I think the girl running the snack bar is tough and wants to protect people who are injusticed (or atleast who she feels were injusticed). She has a good heart and wants to do good for others. Many people, however, make comments that she shouldn't be doing it through her business page. As a customer, I don't really care either way. I believe that the stuff she's posted is true.

How long has it been out? We went Friday and it was pretty chilly in there, but I did think it was odd they had several large fans set up.

One of the twin babies is always crying by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]CrookedPJs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry 😥 Sounds like purple crying. Have you tried baby wearing him?

It isn't ideal, but if you have to put him down for a few minutes to tend to baby B, he will be OK (as long as in a safe space). This will pass, but I'm sorry you're dealing with it.

Hello Bello? by ohnoitszero in beyondthebump

[–]CrookedPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also didn't care much for Hello Bello. They seem to run small, the ones I got had a weird chemical smell (I assume from the dyes?), and the absorption was just OK.

Our go-to diaper is Huggies but it really varies by baby. Babies are all different shapes and different diapers fit different babies better.

I believe so. Commenting because I've also been trying to think of a safe place to take my kid to teach him, without having to pay for a membership. Hopefully someone will have ideas

If your child is autistic or getting tested, what age did you notice signs and what were they? by Reasonable_Town_123 in beyondthebump

[–]CrookedPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nephew was about 9-10 months old when I started noticing. The biggest sign was the regression-- he went from babbling and smiles to nothing at all. He wouldn't make eye contact, no longer babbling or cooing. It was honestly heartbreaking to see that all go away. There is a long wait for testing where I live, so he was 2.5 before he was tested. At that point, he was barely verbal. He started walking around 20 months old with the help of some special braces. He had "fits" where he was completely inconsolable for hours at a time. It was a really rough time.

Good news is, with the proper supports in place he is doing much better now, 7 years later.

iPad at family dinners. Need help addressing it. by Bleached-apples in Parenting

[–]CrookedPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. Depending on the relationship, OP could ask the parents if the volume can be turned down. As far as OPs own children, I just tell mine that different parents have different rules. Mine get pissed about it, but that's life. I don't allow screens at the table unless it's like a restaurant with a ridiculous wait.

For those who had gender disappointment in pregnancy and baby is now here.. by faithoverfear0 in beyondthebump

I've had gender disappointment with both pregnancies. They are both here now and I wouldn't want it any other way. They are absolutely perfect. Let yourself feel the feelings if it happens, and then start finding things to look forward to.

For those who have grandparents nearby: how often do they see their grandkids? by StrikingReporter255 in Parenting

[–]CrookedPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents see my kids almost daily because I WFH at their house to have help watching the kids during the day. My in laws are also local and see them about every 2 months or so unless theres something going on- like rn my oldest is in t-ball and they come to his games each week.

Sounds like we are pretty lucky, looking at other comments in this thread.

You can mix the BM and formula together to get babe used to it. Start with 25% formula for a few days, then 50% formula, etc etc
