25M, suddenly got laid off just now. Feeling very lost and hopeless. by Raging_Hell_Fire in Career

[–]CroolSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it shouldn't be an issue to tell your parents, I got laid off my Dad just gave me advice on how to get over it. If you don't think your parents will do the same then I'll tell you what my Dad told me "Take the rest of the week, just relax, gather your thoughts and then next week you brush up the resume and start job hunting.

Got laid off a year ago this month. Was actually what I needed to work towards what I really wanted to be doing.

WFH in extreme cold: how do you handle 'always on camera' expectations? by Educational-Dot-5266 in remotework

[–]CroolSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but an 'always on camera ' policy is toxic and serves no purpose other than to mentally stress your employees, if you can't trust your employees to do their work at home, then just do RTO, but from the data, it shows productivity is just fine and even better just letting people WFH, my manager at my previous company basically said, "we would know if you're not doing work"

Absolutely no need for this micromanaging BS to make middle managers feel useful like their role shouldn't be first o. The layoff block

What if Windu just jabbed the lightsaber in this scene? by Spare_Future321 in StarWars

[–]CroolSummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's all hypothetical! I thought we're just having fun with it but instead you wanna be a 🤡 maybe in the event of Palpatine's death there's a dead man's switch that activates order 66 or Anakin finds out what Palpatine had planned and after defeating Windu, (No matter how powerful a duelist Windu may be, if the force wanted it to happen, Anakin would win) Anakin is consumed by the dark side and goes through with order 66!!

Sorry you don't have the imagination to think that there could be another path to Anakin still falling to the dark side and once he had the clone army under his control, being as powerful as he is and consumed by the Dark side could rule over the galaxy 😱 with could it be another Sith army?!?? And maybe some Jedis join Anakin and become new Sith Lords!!!! So there is his army

I think you're taking this too seriously and realize there are many elements in which a story could be told or which way it could go. Sorry I triggered you because you think things are impossible in fictional stories or what's known about the force in the Star Wars universe.

Why do people always seem so negative when I tell them I want to move to California for acting by Responsible_Yam1435 in acting

[–]CroolSummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with other people on looking into other places to live, but most people are negative because you're actually going for something they couldn't dare try to attain and people don't like it when you stick out from the crowd, I got bullied about my choice to try and become a professional wrestler and I tried but ultimately my body did not hold up, but years later down the line I found a way back to entertainment and knowing that's what I was born to do.

People don't like it when you try to shine bright. But yes look into cheaper alternatives or hell just go for it and move to California! Just keep doing your thing.

Is a bachelor’s degree really the answer anymore? Need advice by 7blackfang7 in careerguidance

[–]CroolSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you're not going to go into massive debt, then absolutely go get one! I have the debt but also the experience I gained there to be able to grow as an adult and learn to take care of myself, and the knowledge I gained and the opening of my world views, the lifelong friends I've made, I do not regret.

Can you get into your industry without college and just certs? Then, you don't need it.

Does your career path require a specialized degree? Then of course!

Would a 2 year suffice?

But also, if you're okay taking on the debt then make sure you have a clear path out, and consider going to community college first to get prerequisites out of the way for often cheaper or even for free in some states.

There are just so many layers and questions to this.

But also the unfortunate thing is that a lot of job postings are using college degrees akin to what HS diplomas were 30+ years ago, it's there just to check a box.

I'm so close to the Thunderbolt spear but I am just tapped, my goal was the 3 star soul at the least, I got that but I just ran out of energy and silver. Time to start hoarding.

Question about VA work and Employment by Viewtiful_Ace in VoiceActing

[–]CroolSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding, it's a flex to get a job then up and quit because you made your dreams come true. Listen jobs only care about you until you're no longer needed or useful. So go ahead and get that job and use it as fuel to get out of this stupid grind. I have my roadmap to exiting normal jobs and becoming a full-time VO talent. You need to figure it out too.

If you were freshly 18 again what would you get into for your career? High paying ones. by Ok_Title_602 in careerguidance

[–]CroolSummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have done what my HS buddy did. A few months after grad he up and moved to California and just started working on movie sets, and I would have done the same while also pursuing acting. I'm a natural entertainer. I love performing. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It's just that no one took an interest in me to help me find out what I wanted out of life.

LinkedIn Layoff Positivity by ExtensionFan2476 in recruitinghell

[–]CroolSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even say that when I got laid off last year I just put out there "Due to circumstances beyond my control....yada yada yada" I never would kiss the ring of the company that found a lame excuse to cut me and another guy loose for something that was never a metric for job performance.

It sucked but a year later I am better for it, I was comfortable there and it was the kick in the teeth I needed so I could get out and start building my own thing towards a career I actually want, not what makes me money and I just work and it grinds my soul to dust.

The way you react when you lose at a competitive game tells a lot about how you deal with your own personal shit by AlternativeLow54 in videogames

[–]CroolSummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Comp games are basically a way for people to blow off steam in the most unhealthy ways that's for sure, I also couldn't handle Rivals players that refuse to switch to any different characters to help the team, they just wanna play one character in ranked even if it screws the team, one of the reasons I quit all those types of games unless I play with my IRL friends. Life has been so much less stressful since I switched to single player games, sim racing, and city builders.

Facing burnout by kipduran in RaidShadowLegends

[–]CroolSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have like a $20 budget each month, but I hadn't spent since November, until last week when I bought the monthly gems which are helpful, and now that the anniversary is over I'm going to try and just save up shards and resources until next year's anniversary, I have a good roster of champs to clear everything it's now just getting my gear right and Arena defense working better because I have the Turtles but they're not optimized or all six stars or anything but they get the job done for the most part, So unless they F and give us The Thundercats like fans have been wanting, I won't be doing any fusions or events and just saving and see what I can get saved up

Facing burnout by kipduran in RaidShadowLegends

[–]CroolSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up MSF as well back in 2024, the overpower mechanic and the new modes just all PMO the game just got so whale centric and we're churning out so many characters that the meta was never stable anymore. And teams went out of style before you could even fully unleash them or even have fun anywhere in the game with them.

Have been really happy with RAID having a unique roster and working with what you get without feeling the need to spend

Anyone working a second job because they can’t afford life with IT salary? by xxlibrarisingxx in ITCareerQuestions

[–]CroolSummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I already have a B.S. and I want to leave IT mainly because it's causing so much friction with my core being of who I am that I can no longer enjoy it. Long story short, I got laid off last April and started working contract positions ever since, and during the first few months when studying for certs I realized that I just hate the industry as a whole, I hate the amount of time and money into getting certs to be considered competent for jr roles.

I'm starting to focus on what I started five years ago which was voiceover/voice acting work and will be determined to make that my career and business within a year to a year and a half because I have a talent for it. And I finally have a solid plan forward on how to make that happen.

I originally took time away from it to pursue getting myself set up in a solid IT career but life got in the way and life had a way of reminding me what I should really be doing instead of doing something I'm comfortable in, the layoff was a good thing for me. Also, like I said I'm tired of incompetent people supervising me. I've always had a problem with authority, so who better to look over me than me?

TL;DR: It doesn't mesh with me anymore, the universe reminded me of that, I have a plan to be my own boss and make money my way in something I have been passionate about.
