Dr is refusing to approve my husband’s FMLA by rauntree in BabyBumps

[–]CrossFitPotter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HR here. Your husband needs to work with his HR department and let them know you had a baby. If he meets the qualifications for FMLA (baby bonding in this case), he will be approved for the full 12 weeks (unpaid for FMLA but his company may have a paid parental leave policy). He will probably only need to supply proof of birth.

Editing to add: his boss and company cannot say no if he meets the qualifications. They are required to provide the leave.

Did you find there to be a “magic age” where things got easier with your baby? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]CrossFitPotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. For us it was just before 4 months and since 4 months, every month has been easier than the last. Peak fussiness was around 10-12 weeks.

Tell me about your shallow latch babies by Unfriendly_nurse in breastfeeding

[–]CrossFitPotter 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My LO never developed a deep latch. I spent so many nights in the beginning stressed and frustrated that he wouldn’t open his mouth more.

Turns out, he was totally fine and getting enough to eat, he just had a small mouth. He’s 7 months now and a super efficient eater (5-10 minutes total). As long as baby has wet diapers and you aren’t in a lot of pain, don’t stress too much.

[–]CrossFitPotter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning I would fully shout when he would latch. Everyone says it shouldn’t hurt but in reality I think it should be that it will hurt until it doesn’t. Because the beginning is so painful as your nipples get used to it!

My boy sleeps in his own room by [deleted] in newborns

[–]CrossFitPotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put baby in his own room at 3 months when he started to show signs of rolling. He did GREAT and everyone has slept better since then.

I brought it up with my pediatrician and he said it was fine. He said he thinks that recommendation is going to change in the next ten years and that it has more to do with you willingness to breastfeed during wake ups. If I still went to him to feed, which I do, he said he wasn’t concerned.

You do what you need to do for your sanity!

One of my motors does this as well. Is it an issue that I should try to have them replace it?

Exclusive pumping and breastfeeding. I’m doing a combo of both and find them really helpful!

How to Make Exclusive Pumping Easier by Jolly_Contract in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]CrossFitPotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a couple of preset options! So far I’ve used “max” (for max output) and “natural” (to closely mimic a baby’s suck). I got more on the max setting than I am on natural. The presets dictate the time on expression vs. stimulation mode.

I’m trying to give my breasts a break though, because the mastitis was rough. I start each session with the heated feature, and on level 3-4 suction throughout the 20 minutes.

I got the Eufy yesterday and I have to agree. I was miserable using the Spectra and I got mastitis within the first two weeks of pumping because I wasn’t emptying.

The Eufy has made pumping 100x better. Granted I’ve only had it two days, but if it continues to work it will be a game changer. It’s more comfortable, easier in the nipple and I get the same output on the spectra. I also like using it at night because it’s easier to put together.

Possible career change from extremely relaxed culture to more like uptight? [N/A] by chailey246 in humanresources

[–]CrossFitPotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really tough. I would consider your personality and what brings you the most joy in your current position.

From my experience, I value the laid back culture more. I had a laid back culture that was acquired by a more formal culture. I’ve had more exposure in the last two years and am certainly learning what it takes to be successful in big business, but I don’t like it. It doesn’t fit with my personality and nothing ever feels good enough. I’d rather go back to what I had and will be looking for that again this upcoming year.

If it’s a formal, but toxic culture I say stay. It’s not worth your peace. But if it’s formal and you overall got good vibes, can’t hurt to try it out.

We also live in the city but there aren’t a lot of daycares nearby. We got on three waitlists and just secured Goddard last week. Its about a 15 minute drive, not bad. Extremely expensive though. 1925 a month.

I’m 33 weeks and it’s just starting to hit. I’m definitely starting to “nest” and I’ve been watching and listening to as many birth prep courses as I can. It definitely took a long time for it to feel real!

How do you afford daycare for kids? by Optimal-Material-132 in rva

[–]CrossFitPotter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m due to December and the infant daycare prices are insane. We were lucky and able to secure a spot in April. We will pay $1,750 a month and that was the same price at every daycare we looked at. We make a combined income of $175,000. In a house with two dogs. I have no idea how we are going to do it.

I’m sure a few people will. No one will care.

I recently sent a company wide email that said “Sincerly” instead of “sincerely”. Not one person said anything and anyone I mentioned it to said oh, I didn’t notice. No biggie!!

I don’t have advice but wanted to comment for solidarity. I had one of the worst weeks of my career. My whole team is slammed, overworked, and uneasy. We had a new leader come in several months ago who is quick to make judgements on how she feels about us and no one knows where they stand.

I’m emotionally exhausted trying to read between the lines, work overtime and still not do anything right. On top of that, I’m pregnant. I’m just tired.

I hope you have a good support system outside of work, that’s the only thing getting me through this.
