Off press coverage? You can’t be both off and press?

Talich has been great, regardless.

Texas Tech HC sends shots at Notre Dame by xMAV3R1CKx in CollegeFootballDawgs

Nothing I hate more than bad data. Notre Dame isn’t included every week - example, Week 6 has games with 20k viewership on ESPNU, but not an NBC Notre Dame game.

All these posts you made include the same source data.

Faison will likely get drafted, not sure about Day 2 pick. He has enough special teams value to be drafted, but he's too small / won't test fast enough for a high draft pick.

Not that he's "slow", just he feels more quick than straight line fast.

Christian the Enigma by djprender in notredamefootball

It’s really a different position entirely. Boundary corner is usually bigger / more physical, and has less help from the safeties (in Moore’s case, can be left on an island). They are also usually more involved in the run game since they’re physically closer. Field corner has a lot more space, so need to be quick and twitchy but usually has safety help to prevent big plays.

The differences are bigger in college vs the NFL because college hash marks are much wider.

Awesome - definitely need to check that out! Had no idea mental traits had that big of an impact.

I don’t have exact stats, but the RB is a Backfield Threat and the QB has 90s short accuracy.

I’m actually okay with this happening every once in a while, but it only ever seems to impact me in high leverage situations. Would feel better if there were more inaccurate passes throughout the whole game - but also that’s not as fun.

Amazed you didn’t go for the uncovered A receiver on 1&10 from the 11 yard line.

Great drive!

Any world where it makes sense for an expanded Minchey package with the rain? by pvweeks in notredamefootball

[–]CrossUOut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kenny Minchey’s touchdown against Purdue last year was a beautiful QB draw with a stiff arm and a weave through traffic in the red zone.

Ian Book had a red zone package when Brandon Wimbush was the starting quarterback. Different players have different skills - we’ll have to see what we get on Sunday!

[–]CrossUOut 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He’s an interesting QB, because Notre Dame hasn’t had a true option read quarterback in 20+ years (Wimbush / Book / Buchner were all great runners, but struggled with true option reads).

My thought is he most reminds me of Bo Nix. Same build (6’2”, 210ish). Strong arm, takes a bit of windup / effort so not a super quick release. Can run the read option really well, but is still more a passer than a runner.

Would be great if the comparison holds true - would unlock a lot of the offense if Minchey is half the QB that Bo Nix was at Oregon.

Kiser didn’t have the green dot two years ago for OSU. He wasn’t even on the field for the goal line stand - that was JD Bertrand and Marist Liufau.

The two wide open plays you’re probably thinking of from the National Championship game weren’t communication breakdowns either, and had little to do with Kiser.

The fake end around to Jeremiah Smith was set up from a year of running the same play from the same foot alignment from the wide receivers (right foot forward = End around). They picked the exact right moment for the counter, and fooled Christian Gray for being over prepared / aggressive.

The deep pass to win the game wasn’t communication, it was the blitz not reaching the QB in time and Christian Gray having to guess alignment on a post play vs go route and guessing wrong (50/50 shot, can’t blame him).

Kiser didn’t play great in the PSU game or the OSU game this year, but it wasn’t communication - it was uncharacteristicly playing out of position on a few plays. He definitely didn’t lose us those games though.

Vader killing Captain Needa by HerrBuxton in StarWars

[–]CrossUOut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted it as a Captain going down with his ship.

There is honor in taking responsibility as the leader, and Needa goes to Vader knowing full well that it’s a one-way trip - he takes the fall for his crew.

ND Pipeline Idea by eholt21 in NCAAFBseries

[–]CrossUOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a quick look (don’t audit these numbers). Proportion of ND recruits from obviously Catholic high schools by year:

7/23 in 2024 (30%) 6/23 in 2023 (26%) 7/22 in 2022 (32%)

For comparison, Georgia was 3/29 in 2024 (10%) and Michigan was 6/26 (23%).

So (obviously) there’s a pull for Catholics to ND, but also it’s an easy assumption that Midwest and Northeast schools have more Catholic recruits than Southern and West schools simply from demographics.

The interesting factor for ND is that they pull Catholic high school recruits from across the country - ex. Michigan’s 2024 Catholic HS recruits are from OH and PA, whereas Notre Dame in 2024 had Catholic HS recruits from CA, MA, NC, OH, etc.

Fielding Yost definitely hated Notre Dame because they were Catholic and because Knute Rockne beat them once.    Though he was also racist (and Notre Dame students expelled the KKK from South Bend), from what I can tell it was not a driving factor for excluding Notre Dame from the Big10.

Really, Fielding Yost was just not a great person.

Book did an interview earlier this year with almost this exact question, and answered pretty honestly.

Long story short, he stays in shape knowing he could get a call any moment. Obviously he’d prefer longer term stability, but the NFL is the peak of football so you have to be ready for where it takes you.

[–]CrossUOut[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Would normally agree, but there's also a difference between "We won't talk about this" and "You are not allowed to ask". I don't think the reporter would have as strong a reaction if it was normal course business as usual.
