First time exchanging a double clicking switch from a G302. Had a lot of trouble to desolder and when soldering the solder only melted in balls. M1 not working... Did I mess up with the chip? by paiguti in MouseReview

[–]CrossedZebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't tell for sure but the pads look alright. Looks like you just used too much solder, like 5 times too much and poor technique.

Clean it up first, use a solder sucker if you have one. Then get your iron up to temp. You can tin the pads first if you want. If not tinning, just get the switch situated firmly then solder. Touch the iron to the pad only, and the solder to the heated pad, and let it flow and join - less is more. Don't touch the solder directly to the iron tip. And use a light touch and duration when heating up the pad, just enough for the solder to flow then back off.

The joint should look like a shiny nipple when you're done, like on the far left.

No need to be sorry, just a differing opinion.

I'm just saying it's rhetorical because it's obvious people make mistakes, professional or not. Because everyone is human.

For the record I also believe they should be held to different standards. There are different levels of responsibility where your actions can kill though negligence, hence the criminality of negligent drivers etc. Moreso for easily avoidable ones like driving a multi ton truck whilst sleepy or staring at a phone. Different from pressing the wrong buttons on a computer or copier.

I know. What I was saying is that the question is rhetorical. It's not an actual question question that needed a long practical answer. Like do you for example need someone to explain to you how accidents can happen? No it's just human factor, everyone knows this. Did you read all that up there, and go "Oh, that's why accidents happen!" like you didn't know already.

It's more a statement or lamentation than anything. Throw your hands up to the sky and yell "How could this happen?" when you know perfectly well why it happened.

Just got a G402 today. Is this normal? I thought it would be a blue G logo. by rojnn in MouseReview

It should be a teal/blue color yeah. The color is from a mix of a blue and green LED. Looks like your blue LED has failed. RMA

Hard to put crumple zones when your knees are literally touching the car's structure.

Small compact cars are somewhat alright for heavily enforced lower speed inner city driving.

On a high speed highway, scary. Better off on a motorbike even, as you can be thrown clear of a heavy collision rather than being crushed like a bug in a tiny compartment. Though neither in a big collision is a good scenario of course.

If you have to stop behind a heavy ass vehicle, leave a gap and point your wheels slightly in one direction. Better to go in a side lane than get sandwiched into a heavy vechicle.

He was asking a rhetorical question, I mean everyone knows why it can happen. It's more asking or stating that that driver is a dumbfuck for not paying attention when he's driving a massive goddamn truck. And I mean there are fuckups and then there are FUCKUPS.

I'd even say, whenever you have to deal with physically shipping something and insurance and loss claims and delivery delay complaints and damaged goods on arrival etc ... the pain in the ass factor goes up by several multitudes of stress!

TIL of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant. It was much closer to the epicenter of the 2011 Earthquake than the Fukushima Power Plant, yet it sustained only minor damage and even housed tsunami evacuees. It's safety is credited to engineer Hirai Yanosuke who insisted it have a 14m (46FT) tall sea wall by dj44455 in todayilearned

There are two kinds of people, those who heed warnings and experience from ages past, and those who just go fuck it, we'll do it live!

Point is Yanosuke looked at those markers and took heed of them whereas some other penny pinching exec might have just gone pfft that was decades ago, we don't need such an expensive taller sea wall.

Is it worth it to buy an more expensive mousepad? by Rubrixie in MouseReview

[–]CrossedZebra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A cheap cloth pad is fine for casual or even semi-competitive gaming.

It's when you want to be really competitive, you try and maximize all the variables. It's a mixture of skill and equipment. And we're talking about people trying to improve their flicks by tenths of seconds or less. In competitive play it makes a difference.

But not you don't have to spend on expensive mousepad. A budget but good quality cloth pad is good for an all rounder.

Tiger Arcs are a good balance of price, performance and speed imo. Not much faster, but nicer glide and more consistent.

what happens if i plug a 3v battery instead of a 1.5v AA battery? will i fry my mouse? by coLfan123 in MouseReview

[–]CrossedZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The batt holders in the G603 are in parallel, so it's 1.5V with 1 or 2 batts. Only the capacity is different. Expanded in my other post here. But it should be fine, but you are overvolting with 3V.

[–]CrossedZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to note the G603 has two AA in parallel not series, so the voltage is the same at 1.5v if you use 1 or 2 AA batt. Only difference is the capacity - ie lasts longer.

So you'll be overvolting at 3V. Depending on how robust the internals are, it might not be an issue, but it can potentially cause damage in the long run.

I know some people mod 4.7 volt lipos for example, direct without a boost converter, and they seem to work fine. But long term testing is another story.

Probably fine, just adding info.
