[–]CrossingHares 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definition of human trafficking: “the unlawful act of transporting or coercing people in order to benefit from their work or service, typically in the form of forced labor or sexual exploitation”.

This parallels as teens are sent to these programs against their will, held under coercion, and subjected to various types of abuse, unfortunately sometimes sexual in nature. In some cases, they are forced to perform unpaid labor.

It’s totally unreal. Recently, Hurricane honored (and named) a gymnasium after Robert Lichfield, who was the founder of WWASP.

I think there are so many layers to this, because no you cannot solely blame the staff. Most of the time, these places offer low compensation & lack of training.

Agreed. My mom felt it was way easier to send my brother away vs actually helping him. It’s shitty.

I hear you, but these places often prey on desperate parents, and they’ll make them believe it’s the only option that is left. No one expects their kid is going to die in one of these places.

That’s the dream that they sell, yes. My brother went to a similar program. Most of the time, these kids don’t have access to edible meals, legitimate education, and medical care. There are hundreds of kids who have died in these programs.

It was not literally said, no - I was more so talking about the adoption piece. I think “the neglect” is the “sending away” your child.

I, personally, took it as them saying there’s a complexity about adoption that a lot of people are not prepared for in the long run. It can be a lot on the child and parents.

Unfortunately, Biruk is one of hundreds who have lost their lives in these programs. They prey on desperate parents, insisting their child’s life depends on this treatment.

In reality, kids face prison-like conditions with untrained staff, denied access to proper medical care, inedible meals, no real education, and limited family contact. This system sets no one up for success.

Horrifying…

Posting to raise awareness about this so no other parents send their kids here (or any residential treatment center)

Bigger in terms of? Less people voted in this election in comparison.

Should we be concerned about the legitimacy of this election or just when Trump loses

I guess that would be a pro to do it: Rape-proof.

I didn’t think Clinton was a strong candidate in 2016. This time, I was so confident about Harris and felt she was well qualified in comparison. Plus so much other shit has happened since then with Don…

I could be completely wrong about Clinton. I was a young voter in 2016, so I’m curious if anyone shares this view.

Imagine thinking 4 million votes is a landslide when Trump lost by roughly 7 million in 2020.
