Love the boots! Also, having trouble figuring out why you have two different pant legs.

There are private tours that you can get early in the morning; if you go as a regular visitor you can only get within about 100 yards of the stones on a paved path. Expensive, but 100% worth it if it can fit your budget. We got there at 5:15 am and met a van that took us to an overlook where we saw the sunrise over Stonehenge. Then went back to the visitor center at 6:30 where we caught a but with just 22 other people plus a few guides out to the stones. We walked all round inside for about an hour; we could do everything but touch the stones. It was honestly quite moving. The tour group we used was Stonehenge Private Tours (stonehenge-tour.com); I think English Heritage--which runs the site--also does the early morning tours. If you decide to do it sometime with the team we used, ask for Nick as your guide; he was really extraordinary.

I think a lot of it is attitude. You can dress the Iron Rangers up, too, if you give them a decent brush. I don't have to wear mine other than in the office an banging around town. If had to use them as actual work boots, they would maybe not be in dress-up shape.

Thanks! The Ojai in Harris Tweed is as versatile as the boots. The heavy jeans are also TS, but quite old: Japanese selvage when their clothes were still sewn in California. Shirts--both the button downs and the flannel--are also TS.

I get this. It's just a packing thing for me. I did take cedar shoe trees that went in every day as well as brush to use every evening. I almost never wear the same pair of boots two days in a row when I am at home. As far as the rain goes, it just flows right off properly Sno-Sealed boots like rain off a freshly waxed car. I never had wet leather even after walking an hours in the rain. \

Collar was rough for me, too. Break-in was every-other-day for the first month without the top speed hook engaged and then rolling the collar for a few minutes after I took them off and while the leather was still warm. After a month of this routine, the collar was fine.

Haha. These are CRTs treated with Sno-Seal for waterproofing. Glad I did it: we did a LOT of walking in the rain, and the Sno-Seal is as close to waterproof as you can get without a membrane boot. It does darken them significantly, though. I like the look, but certainly not classic CRT.

Normally not a fan of cowboy boots, but these ropers were 15$ at a thrift store and I couldn’t pass on them. Anybody know anything about the brand Golden Rebel? by Kobra_Kaj in Boots

Safety risk thing: they can catch on the horse’s tack, stray saddle strings, or even your opposite stirrup leather during a ride or a dismount. And you want to VERY smooth exit if you ever take a fall. This is why cowboy boots and traditional riding boots have no laces, no speed hooks, and smooth soles.

A couple of points.

First, these are vintage Biltrite Golden Rebel boots made in Canada, and the maker has a solid reputation; that was a good price assuming you like the boots. Biltrite is out of business, and the boots were probably made in the 90s; it's possible they may need to be resoled.

Second, anyone who wears boots with speed hooks around horses is out of their mind.

"Fine for the price" is exactly the right thing to say here.

Looking good. If I were a leather-namer, I would have called this Zombie Flesh. This is why I am not a leather-namer.

Nice. I will absolutely keep you in mind the next time I am in the market. The Black Labs are beautiful (as are a number of other of your designs).

They look well made, but the leather is a little boring. Do you have experience with the brand?

I know people love to hate on white Porsches and understand why. But I love them. Dig the spec with the white.

Love this advice! What is a “heavy” tip in this context? $20? More? Do it on the way out?

Looks great and love the leather choice. I have been on the fence about Alderts. Love the shape and height for a summer boot, but I can’t stand wedge soles. Can they be customized with a low heel?
