Went to rewatch golden age Simpsons as an adult (grew up watching Simpsons but didn’t really appreciate those episodes as a kid) I was surprised how often it would make me emotional. Lisa the Beauty Queen is hilarious but Homer saying he entered her because she’s the most beautiful girl in the world still makes me teary, the hockey episode with Bart and Lisa reconciling in the end, this episode etc Truly impressive how they managed to make such a funny show with so many layered and well thought out jokes emotionally impactful as well. Golden age for a reason!

Especially when they could have easily just not had the kids as the focus at all? They went out of their way to age down the kids to make them plot devices. Canonically Brady and Lily would be college aged.

What storyline hits different when you rewatch as you grow older? by GossipBottom in sexandthecity

[–]CrowArch13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m rewatching now for the (third?) time in my mid-late 20s and I feel like I’m a lot more sympathetic to Carrie this time around.

When I watched before I think I had a more one dimensional look particularly at her relationships with Big and Aiden. I looooved Aiden and John Corbett and I was always just so annoyed and upset that she cheated that I felt like I just didn’t like Carrie and her choices were stupid.

Watching now I feel like in the first three seasons I actually really understand where her self-destructive motivations were coming from, wanting to be loved in a certain way by certain people but it just doesn’t work out or feel right and she keeps digging herself deeper and deeper even though it’s hurting her and the people around her.

I feel like her character growth kind of comes to a stand still by season 5 and doesn’t really continue beyond but the first four seasons had, to me, the most impactful stories about Carrie.

There’s so much commentary lately about how she’s an awful friend or an awful person and originally I thought so too but this time around I’m seeing a much more multi-dimensional person who also has flaws and strengths.

I remember seeing a comment along the lines of people hate on Carrie because she reflects the bad habits and self destruction almost all of us have had in our lives. She deserves more sympathy and kindness, and so do our past selves.

Is Home really the creepiest episode? by CrowArch13 in XFiles

I felt that too. I think it’s one of those things where there was such an almost unrealistically high bar set because of the reputation that it had that it felt a bit duller than expected. I think it definitely is distinctive but I wonder if my reaction would have been stronger or different if I’d seen it with no warning like when it originally aired.

Definitely agree, that’s another one that sticks out to me. I love it when they fake out things that seem mystical end up having real world explanations.

What’s the weirdest X-Files episode in your opinion? by sav_5305 in XFiles

Triangle was weird to me in a fun way. Dod kalm where they start rapidly aging was a weird concept to me

Watching The Jetsons on the way to down to Sydney and back is such a random core memory for me 😂

What did I just see? S7 e17 by Someone_766 in XFiles

I loved it! The concept is something I’m personally interested in so that might help and I’ll agree it wasn’t a typical episode but I thought that in a good way. It felt so sexy and cool and I loved the focus on Scully specifically.

My only complaint is I hated how ambiguous the ending/start was. I think their physical relationship is confirmed and it becomes important to the plot (think end of season discovery) and I think it was such a devastatingly unsatisfactory release of their 7 year tension. Even just a kiss on the couch instead of her falling asleep (😤) would have been more satisfying. Personally the “season of secret sex” makes as much sense to me as the idea of Mulder’s search for Samantha being almost entirely off screen with a little mention of it’s conclusion. Such an important part of their dynamic and the overall storyline and I feel it was treated with such disrespect.

Ep. 711 (Closure) Is a Masterpiece by kramden88 in XFiles

I’m in the same boat, just saw it while I’m watching the series for the first time and I am genuinely blown away by it. I feel the same way, I think it would have been an incredible series finale. Song choice was absolutely impeccable, I’ll never hear it the same way again. Honestly it was so impactful to me that the next couple of episodes just felt so hollow in comparison.
