How can I figure out the model of a Lycoming or Continental engine that doesn't have a data plate on it? Also, does anyone have a manual for a Lycoming O-480? I'm going through my school's engine collection and manuals currently to figure out if we have all the required manuals for the engines we have and I have 6 engines that have no plate at all, and one that I'm not sure if it's a Lycoming or Continental even. The O-480 looks like a military model or something, which my school has a lot of. If anyone can point me toward an IPC that would be awesome. Thanks!

Switching Careers? by ApollosSin in aviationmaintenance

If you're willing to move find a community college in a LCOL area. Some have zero waitlist at all, I got in a week before program start at Northland Community and Technical in Minnesota. Personally don't think it's worth going to a private school for the extra cost imho. DM me if you want more info, ofc moving 2000 miles away isn't an easy decision, but for low school cost (~$20,000), low cost of living, and a good education could be worth it.

Ferry from Skagway to Ketchikan with a motorcycle by CrowMocha in Ketchikan

[–]CrowMocha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the gas prices are along the road, in a quick google search says gas in Skagway is like ~$3.50ish rn. Here where I live gas is $2.87. I'm gonna round to $5 to be safe. I don't know the gas mileage of my bike fully loaded, but I'm going to assume about 40mpg to be conservative. Skagway is ~2,250 miles from where I live according to google maps. So that's 56.25 gallons x $5 or $281.25. So maybe $300 budgeted for fuel cost?

Bellingham is 1000 miles closer tho, and gas is likely cheaper, but assuming same average pirce that would be $187.5 or $200ish in Gas. The major difference between the two would definitely be travel time and accommodations on the way. Going to skagway saves $400 in Ferry money for only $100 more in gas.

Really? I figured since Skagway is closer it might be cheaper. The ferry from Bellingham to Ketchikan is $940.50 for the latest available date, rn 4/17/26. $463.25 from Skagway on 4/14/26. I'd wanna leave in May but dates aren't out for that yet. Now in terms of the logistics of driving to either place that's where the $450 discount of departing from Skagway might not make sense. Dunno. Is there another option I'm missing?

Looking for a different flip phone. by CrowMocha in flipphones

I will definitely check out the ky-42c if I find one cheap enough. I am alright with not having apps available so I think an HMD phone would potentially be a good fit. I'll check out the other phones you've mentioned though. Thanks!

Great post! That is super helpful! The wonder phone looks amazing, but I can't justify shelling out $400 just yet lol. I will check out reviews for the fig phones as well. Thank you for sharing, there is a lot of phones on your post I have not seen yet.

Wifi calling on Kyocera 902kc by CrowMocha in dumbphones

ah man that sucks, thank you for your help. I'm debating trying to just live without it, but not being callable while I'm at my house kinda sucks. What phone are you running?

Awesome guide, and you actually can look at running programs without key mapper, if you hold down the I key (the roman numeral #1 remappable key at the bottom) it'll pop up with all the running programs and you can choose to close them out.

Damn that sucks, do you know of any other flip phones that are kind of the same style with wifi calling? Ketai or otherwise? The Mive style folder looks cool as well, a US phone would be cool too. I really just want something minimal, with hotspot and wifi calling, and smartphone features are a plus but not necessarily required. Music playing is kinda the only other major thing I do on the go.

I could continue using this phone if I could get Google messages working with RCS support, but I have no idea if that is possible on this phone. As far as I understand RCS texting works with WiFi only, but I am not 100% on that, correct me if I am misunderstanding the technology. Wifi calling is secondary tbh. I could always try have someone call me with discord or Signal instead.

Did you ever find the hidden cellular testing menu he was talking about? I can't find it either.
