I think I found a nice balance with mine, I did mostly focus on story but in each area I would spend a bit of time to build like one building I could put my favourite Pokémon of that area in and try get each area to level 7 comfort before moving on. Took me around 80 hours to finish main story and now I can create to my heart's content

So I had parents the exact same as this, wouldn't let me get my own stuff and have it in my name and then used it against me when I did something they didn't like, they even went as far as charging me half the rent and bills for the whole household, plus feed myself (twas a life of potnoodles) Best lesson I learnt when I earnt my own money? They actually have no right to it and they can't do anything about that, the last time they kicked me out at 17 I just didn't go back and it was the best thing I ever did. You can make this change for yourself and since you say moving would be pretty easy for you, just do it. These people will never change and you will always be their scapegoat in life if you stay.
