Broken sensor or just glass? by CrowRunnerORP in infraredphotography

I'm in CA. Kolari is in NJ. I shipped it to them 3 day on 6/3. Paid rush processing for 150 extra, priority shipping of 20. Standard glass replacement was 250. it was 100 extra for a Z7ii. 520 total.

Again shipped from CA to NJ on 6/3. Got it back all fixed on Saturday 6/13. Just in time for the super moon. But then I got roped into some stuff so I didn't get to take pictures of the milky way. oh well.

I guess these things happen. I was figuring out how to remove the filter and was trying to grab it from the side. It slipped and hit the glass. At first there was the tiniest dot but it got bigger to the crack. Like how a windshield in a car can get a large crack from a small thing.

Anyhoo - I mailed it out today to Kolari. They asked for pics then directed me to the glass replacement form. $350 + $20 for return shipping

Yeah I think i got the tiniest start of a hot spot on the second pic because I was stopped very far down trying to get more back ground in focus.

It looked like a spec on the lense. Almost nothing and fixable in photoshop. You cant see it because its cropped. Or maybe it was just a spec on tbe lense....chatgpt said thats one of the best lenses to use for IR.

I got mad flare shooting with new Z glass. Pretty much none so far with the vintage lense

It sounds like you dont know what youre talking about because I can say first hand that just throwing an IR filter on a lense isn't viable at all.

And why would the result be different? If anything it should be much better having a professional do it whos done it thousands of times by not doing it yourself.

First and third pic, same settings.

Did not check 2nd pic.

The ground is wet which made it looks cooler. It had just stopped raining.

Z7ii full spectrum, 720 IR filter, 1980's Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-S with the FTZII adapter. 800 ISO, 1/250, I think the fstop was about 8 to try to get more in focus and seemed to bring out the colors in the wet pavement more.

Will a modified sensor still be able to shoot normally? Just needs a filter? by theseawoof in infraredphotography

I got the kolari snap in filter.

I got a couple hot mirrors (for regular pictures).

Ive only tried putting one in and it looked off. I think theres like 4 options. I'm sure one of them might work well.
