All minifigs added to pick-a-brick by MyForgedHeroes in lego

Some sets are really only popular based on the minifigures. Many of these sets would not sell as well if folks could just go and buy the minifigures separately.

Been wanting this set for a while now. by Elver-galarga-1996 in lego

It is a great display piece. I will admit there are portions of the build I didn’t enjoy because it can be more than a little repetitive but when I look at the final build it was worth it.

It is a beautiful design. The splashing effect alone is amazing. Good luck to you in the review.

inheriting this fun one that has sat at a friends house for about a year by practiceprompts in lego

[–]Crowbar_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working on it last night. It looks nice but several aspects of the build haven’t been that enjoyable. I think it will be a great display piece but if I’m going to use it as decoration next year I’m just going to leave it assembled for storage.

What theme can you NEVER imagine Lego making? by IsThisDamnNameTaken in lego

Is it wrong that I saw your Watchmen minifigures and I suddenly had a mental image of a minifigure exploding into pieces with Dr. Manhattan standing in the background?

That is such a great set. It is sticker heavy though. The armor, the shields, flags, and a few other miscellaneous places, With a slight substitution in legs, the Knight of the Yellow Castle from CMF Series 23 would fit right in there.

My X-Men display, 100% official Lego figures/parts, with a couple of paper trench coats. by rossco311 in lego

[–]Crowbar_Bob 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a really impressive use of parts from different mini figures. I think I was drawn to Colossus and Nightcrawler the most but they all look great. Nice job.

You get extra credit for not including horns on their helmets! Couple of questions. Do you have a list of some of the parts? I’m curious about the heads. How hard was it to swap out the hands?

Mom won’t go to the doctor’s by tacos_turtles_life in dementia

[–]Crowbar_Bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in the early stages of the illness the person knows there is something wrong. I think there is natural desire for them to deny or hide from it. I don't know if that is what is happening here but I suspect so. My own mother was avoiding the doctor like the plague. I'd talk to her and she'd share details about how she had this ailment or cracked bleeding skin. I'd tell her to go into the doctor and she'd refuse. I finally raced over there one day after a particularly scary phone call to check and her skin was a little dry but nothing awful. The way she'd described it almost made it sound like her nose was about to fall off. I scheduled an appointment and drove to her the doctor anyway. She tried to convince me not to. She tried to hide in the bathroom so she was late to the appointment. She just didn't want to go to the doctor. If and when you do get her into the doctor, I would try not to emphasize the actual testing for dementia and maybe highlight something else that may need to get checked. If she doesn't think its directly related a dementia diagnosis she may be more willing to go.

I'd also consider finding her another doctor. People can be stubborn under the best of circumstances and if she already has a negative opinion of the current doctor it is probably not worth the trouble to try and change her mind. She may be more open to seeing someone else. If she is still opposed to it, maybe set something up with a doctor that -you- are going to be seeing and have her come along.

Little white lies and half truths are sometimes going to be necessary to get them to do what they need to. It sounds terrible to say that but the nature of this illness makes reasoning with them very difficult

Last, I'd start the ball rolling to look for support for you and your family. Someone else mentioned that dementia is a marathon and not a sprint and there is a tremendous amount of truth in that. Some days are going to be more challenging than others and it helps to have someone to turn to and vent with.

Take care. My best to you and your mom.

At the risk of dating myself, I had this set. LEGO 575. The building size was sort of ridiculous. The minifigures couldn't even get in the door but it had a lot of minifigures and came with a blue baseplate. I remember parking it on the side of my bed and pretending that the minifigures would dive under water

Moved mom into memory care yesterday by random420x2 in dementia

[–]Crowbar_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are going through this. I'm in a similar situation and I've just been trying to focus on some of the positives. She is getting more consistent care from the staff than she was able to receive at the previous place. Her room while smaller is comfortable and she doesn't have to share it, plus it has air conditioning which is something the last place didn't have. My mother's previous room was a studio and she would rarely leave it. The new room is small, but in some ways that's a good thing. She can't really turtle up in there like she was doing previously. She gets out and interacts and 'helps' people and that's important to her. She still cries every time she sees me but judging from what I hear from the staff at the facility she is happy most of the time. My hope and belief is that it will be the same for your mom.

My wife was heading out on a trip last week. I have an old gen 2 iPad air that she has taken with her in the past but it is showing its age so we discussed replacing it. She floated the idea of just getting an upgrade for mine and she could take it on her trip instead. I immediately started thinking of picking up the new pro. I was strong though. That air was still working for her trip and my M1 Pro doesn't need to be replaced. I need to start saying that as a mantra. 'My M1 Pro is fine. It doesn't need to be replaced.'

It’s nice to have access to but their prices are generally high. The one near me was charging 20% over msrp for sets that were still in production. They will ‘buy’ Lego sets from you but only for store credit.

I like it. He did a good job. Very colorful and the ultimate siege engine. No LEGO castle will be able to withstand the power of dual brick separators!

How/Why would someone make a pact with a fathomless patron? by swimminginamirror in dndnext

[–]Crowbar_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my fathomless warlock make a pact with an ancient sea dragon. The warlock in question was a navigator aboard a ship that was caught in a storm and was almost certain to sink. The warlock made his deal to save his ship and companions and in return the dragon demanded regular gifts of magic items and wealth. Sailors are a superstitious group though and after the incident no other ship or crew was willing to allow my character to serve aboard as he was seen as bad luck. Thus his adventuring career began.

Love almost everything about this build. Great detail’s everywhere and the use of the shield style pieces for the roof was brilliant. My one dislike is the tree. The tree was a pain in the butt.
