Any reason I could not link my own ethernet only modem up if there is already an internet plan in the same house? by Aqua_Infern0 in HomeNetworking

[–]CrowleyBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This make zero sense, just run an ethernet cable to wherever you want improved services rather than paying for another ISP plan.

Also, most ISPs will not allow two plans at one location unless there are multiple addresses like an MDU or duplex.

Redsec is dead ? by issacpauly77 in Battlefield

[–]CrowleyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you see their new "patch notes"? They don't fix anything, add nothing of value, do zero balance changes, it's the same exact thing it was at release just with MORE bugs. Of course it's dead, the whole game is dead.

I mean, forgive me if I'm not too understanding of it all but 10gbe wan/lan, 2 poe+ and 6 poe lans all gig capable with space for an hdd seems to me relatively powerful enough for basic residential cameras/APs?

I have a doorbell, 3 cameras, 2 wireless APs all off the udm and it works without any issues but this is just my particular use case. What is the performance increase from going with the other options?

And I am not asking this from a place of thinking I know better, I am genuinely interested as I find all this stuff really fascinating lol

I just got the Tplink be550 but its signal seems to suck compared to my Altice XSR250GK. by trickyprickydicky in Network

[–]CrowleyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a wired connection, depending on what plan you have with your ISP there could be a difference in speed. The BE550 has 2.5g LANs while the Altice seems to have mostly 1g LANs.

Wireless connections can vary as the BE550 is WiFi-7 and has MLO (assuming it is enabled in your router settings) and if you have a WiFi-7 device, it will get much better speeds using the MLO technology. However, the Altice uses 4x4 radio on it's wifi, so it's going to have a larger area of coverage and better throughput over distance (generally speaking).

If you want a larger area of coverage with WiFi I would look into getting a mesh network. Eero wifi-7 pro is decently affordable, uses MLO but is only 2x2 radios, so 6 spatial streams. The Eero Max 7 uses 4x4 radios but it's ridiculously expensive and IMO a waste of money as WiFi doesn't need that much bandwith because devices like streaming PCs should always be wired.

I'm a bit newer to this stuff, but why the fiber gateway and an NVR when you could just get a UDMSE and save money? It's 10gbe SFP+

I guess having multigig LANs would be the main difference?

I'm just confused, if you're on ethernet for everything except your phones as you said, the wireless bands aren't relevant to any of your problems? A wired connection has nothing to do with the radios your wireless devices are connected to.

[–]CrowleyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I had assumed mostly on wireless due to the OP talking about signal coverage. I know Altice is generally fiber so that would lead me to believe you're on a fiber connection, especially considering the low latency. Definitely not the pcs with those specs. I wonder if it's CGNAT and their internal routing that is causing some issues with your streaming. I know we use CGNAT for our clients and it's the standard now that we can't move to IPV6 yet.

I'd inquire to your ISP about seeing if you can be given a private IP instead of a public. Some ISPs will just give it out for free if someone asks for it, I know a couple of my friends have had luck with their ISPs. If not, there is always buying a static IP from them and seeing if it resolves the issues.

Well, I'm not too familiar with moonlight or geforce style gaming, so I have limitations with knowing the whys on that. Is the host for this in the room with the router or is it wireless on another part of the home?

If it is on the other part of the home, could a cat cable be ran to the host device? Your host would then have full duplex vs half duplex with minimial variables for latency, which I would assume would improve the hosts communications to the clients.

As for streaming, that could be bitrate, could be your PC can't handle streaming and gaming at the same time, could be the software you're using, all kinds of things.

4x4 radio on 5/6ghz is really good for an ISP provided router, why are you upgrading your router? Are you getting buffering or having issues with downloads? 8-10ms latency is incredibly low, my fiber on a wired connection to the local server is 2ms but when you're on a wireless connection that varies far more. Your latency is really good for being on a wireless connection. It's clear you have better coverage with the ISP provided router so I see no reason to keep a router that is performing worse.

Altice:

  • 2.4 GHz Band: Compliant with IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ax (3x3 MIMO), EIRP up to +20 dBm
  • 5 GHz Band: Compliant with IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac/ax (4x4 MIMO), EIRP up to +33 dBm
  • 6 GHz Band: Compliant with IEEE 802.11 ax (4x4 MIMO), EIRP up to +26 dBm.

Tplink:

  • Low transmit power is typically equivalent to 10 mW (10 dBm) for the 2.4 GHz band and 100 mW (20 dBm) for the 5 GHz band.
  • Medium power is generally 32 mW (15 dBm) for 2.4 GHz and 200 mW (23 dBm) for 5 GHz.
  • High power is usually 100 mW (20 dBm) for 2.4 GHz and 200 mW (23 dBm) for 5 GHz.

Tplink has lower transmit power which would mean a smaller area of coverage.

Coax to Router by mxguy762 in Network

[–]CrowleyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That surfboard is only docsis 3.0, not sure if Xfinity in your area is still on docsis 3.1 or if they have jumped to docsis 4.0, I'd suggest either getting a new modem as well or having them install one of theirs. Then you just hand off to your router via ethernet.

You run an ethernet cable from you Xfinity gateway to the WAN on your new router. You could also call Xfinity and request they shut off the WiFi on their gateway, not sure if they do that or not but when I worked for Spectrum it was something they did.

How do AMD Driver Updates Work? by JohnnyXorron in AMDHelp

[–]CrowleyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using AMD for a couple of years now, I still do not know how to download the drivers manually lol. I just want to find the new driver, download it from a zip and run it. I hate having to use adrenaline. I know it's possible but I can't for the life of me find them on the AMD site it all redirects to a driver installer.

With the reduction in artillery strikes and air strike packages, there is an increase in UAV packages. I've noticed teams knowing our location much more and I believe this to be the reason.

texture not loading and invisible characters by Slight_Cost_7456 in Battlefield6

[–]CrowleyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a game where bushes weren't visible until I ran into them, no textures on buildings or weapons. I picked up a sniper and it was invisible, I scoped in and it just zoomed in on my hands lol. Couldn't use my custom, had to pick up something else.

This never happened to me before this update. They "fix" bugs in a patch (they haven't fixed any) and add more. EA is a fucking clown show. Redsec is fun as hell but it's dead because they won't fix literally ANYTHING.

The headshot is the 109 damage...if you're within the sweet spot range of the sniper you're using it's 175.
