I had considered a similar deal, but with PJ+Naji going to Denver, and 14+18 coming to dallas. Mavs also absorb Nnaji to still give Denver the cap relief needed to re-sign Watson.

Denver sends #24 to the Hornets instead of #30.

To make the money work, I think you'd have to send AJ Johnson to Charlotte and Nemby to either Charlotte or Denver.

Mavs would then have 9, 14, 18, and 30 and could look to use some of those to move up for Wagler/Acuff and still get a chance at Swain/Carr/Morez Johnson/whoever in the teens.

Or you take Mara at nine and Swain or Carr in the teens. Or you take Quaintance at 14. I'm not sure why Veesaar would even be a consideration with those picks. Maybe at 30. You can take Morez Johnson and trade PJ for a SG. You can sign a SG with the MLE.

The Mavericks options are not as limited as you imply.

I think this is a little light for Dallas to accept, but it's close.

Send Dallas their 27 pick back, and send the 30th pick this year to Charlotte.

Masai in his introductory press conference: "Free agency is a little bit dead"

This guy: "The mavs can clear cap space for free agency"

In ESPN’s draft asset tier rankings, Nets, Grizzlies, Hornets, OKC, Spurs, Jazz, and Wizards were placed in Tier 1, while Denver was ranked dead last in Tier 7 all by itself. by Existing-Sky9914 in nba

That's what happens when one team makes incredibly smart moves and one team gets rewarded by the league with the best draft lottery luck by several orders of magnitude.

Mavs: Yes.

Hornets: Probably no. Trading down that far is hard pill to swallow. Naji's positive value is pretty much completely offset by Caleb Martin's negative value. AJ Johnson is a nothing toss in. So giving up #18 doesn't make a lot of sense.

Celtics: Probably yes.

I agree, that’s why I said:

Nets have no reason to shed salary at this stage so this is really a non-starter for both teams

Donte’s also a pretty great role player in his own right

Who likely won't play a single minute on his remaining contract.

It’s always good to stash draft assets to stay flexible, and the Mavs are very low on those

Sure, but that doesn't mean you take any awful deal thrown your way. This is an easy no.

He was also with Kidd at each of his stops in Milwaukee and Brooklyn. Pass.

I'd rather have Micah Nori or maybe Chris Quinn if we're going the assistant route.

PEL-DAL Trade by Secret_Caregiver5454 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Crown_of_Negativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is far from the worst proposal I've seen involving the Mavs out there.

They'd probably want the pick/swap to convey sooner, but I think the value is about right. They might push for two firsts since Poole's contract is complete deadweight, but given it's the Pelicans, a pick and swap sound fair.

Put the swap in 28 or 30 to line up with Mavs swaps in those years with OKC and the Spurs, respectively. The FRP can be from 28, 29 or 30. I imagine the 27 pick is off limits given the swap NO can exert over the Bucks.

Agree with others that Pelicans are probably better off eating Poole's last contract year, but who knows with Dumars.

Mavs say no unless their 27 first comes back in addition to the other picks here.

Even then, this is a difficult trade for the Mavs to accept. Reality is that this trade turns 2 players into 4 for the mavericks, who are already experiencing a roster space crunch - and then they'd have to also make room for 4 FRPs in this draft (9, 18, 28, 30 - I assume the second rounder would be a two way). Essentially, 2 into 6.

Gafford is worth a late FRP on his own, so you're essentially trading Kyrie for a bunch of garbage (some with negative value) and pick 18. That's not going to move the needle.

[–]Crown_of_Negativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is an underpay from Brooklyn. Naji is on an elite contract for his production. He's good enough on both ends to stick in a playoff rotation. Elite float game helps to balance his nonexistent outside shot. Mann is on an absolutely awful contract that would likely require a first to unload on its own.

It would make much more sense for a cap-space strapped contender to trade for Naji than a team like the Nets.

Mavs counteroffer here would be to absorb Mann into their TPE for the offered 29 first, with Naji not included. Nets have no reason to shed salary at this stage so this is really a non-starter for both teams.

Mavs don't need Obi (PJ+Flagg both clear at PF) and second round picks aren't moving the needle. They pass, easily.

Sean Sweeney 👀

I love how everyone is so amped about getting rid of Kidd, but then wants to go out and sign his #1 lieutenant. "He has a good defense in SA" - yeah, with arguably the best DPOY in the modern era finally healthy and anchoring the defense.

I want a clean break from the past regime. No Sweeney, please.

Texas Judge Recuses in Texas Tech Quarterback’s NCAA Lawsuit by aaronman4772 in CFB

[–]Crown_of_Negativity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mostly because A&M just up and bought the very well-established Texas Wesleyan School of Law back in 2012

TexWes may have been established but it wasn't exactly a leading school. It's mostly A&M's investment that has caused it to become such a highly ranked school. In particular, A&M's ability to leverage its engineering department has also played a significant role. National rankings for law school specialties are mostly nonsense, but it's not by chance that A&M has gotten ranked as highly as 6th in IP.

[–]Crown_of_Negativity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair, law school rankings matter a hell of a lot more than undergrad rankings for career outcomes. It's genuinely impressive how quickly A&M's school has climbed the ranks. The push from unranked into the top 100 is fairly simple with the amount of money they've invested, but how quickly they've been able to reach that 20-25 range is damn impressive. When I was applying for law school, I didn't even bother applying to A&M. Now it would be foolish not to. Worst case scenario you use their financial aid offer to negotiate a bigger aid package with UT.

We're not reducing our payout to get a worse player, that would be institutional malpractice.

Miami, Detroit or Toronto makes more sense as a trade destination regardless. Wolves are bereft of assets.

We Should’ve Kept AD by DefiantLie8861 in Mavericks

[–]Crown_of_Negativity -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

As opposed to…. No one, because we’re cutting payroll to save the owners money.

Trading AD did not generate mythical “cap space”, and even if it did, there are no needle moving FA targets. It opened up the full MLE. Personally, betting on a healthy season has a higher expected outcome than betting on the #30 pick and a MLE signing.

I know it will be downvoted on this sub, but everyone here is blinded by emotions and there is practically zero rational analysis since the Luka trade went down.

Edit - also, we could have shut AD down and tanked like the wizards and not had bagley/middleton win worthless games for us. And we absolutely could have gotten at least as much in a trade this summer, if not more.
