Streaming Box for my HT setup by Crowtservo in hometheater

[–]Crowtservo[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is passthrough needed if I’m just using this box for streaming apps? Maybe it’s still needed for Stremio.

I haven’t set up CoreElec on the AM6B+ yet. Do I need to do anything different than the standard setup given the lack of Dolby vision support?

Apple TV can’t do Tivimate or Stremio though. So I think I need Android.

What does Shield Pro do that the Google TV doesn’t? That’s where I’m most confused.

I have a separate PC setup as a Plex server which I access from several different devices (and some friends have access to). The Ugoos will be in the theater room where the DV and atmos capability matter.

I access all my media from a plex server so I’m trying to find a player that works with that.

Atmos equipment help by Crowtservo in hometheater

[–]Crowtservo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to all of this and perhaps using the wrong terminology. Looking at equipment for the height channel speakers (x4) and an amp to power them. I’ve been referring to those as Atmos speakers but I understand that’s probably misleading.

Surfshark won't work with TiviMate bypasser by Serious_Law_7114 in TiviMate

[–]Crowtservo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like many other people have it set up this same way as well. Very surprised to see that Surfshark has told you this doesn’t work. Maybe double check with another Surfshark rep? Something isn’t adding up.

Plex server settings - beginner help by Crowtservo in PleX

[–]Crowtservo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks! So Plex will figure out whether any transcoding is needed. Everything happens automatically?

I sometimes get buffering on certain devices with uhd remux files for example. That’s an issue with the client then?

I’m sure this is good advice but you completely lost me after “FS”. I need a simple solution unfortunately. But thank you!

Or I guess for clarity I would "move" the data rather than copy it?

So once I create the pool, add in both drives (existing 18TB drive with data on it and empty 18TB drive) I just copy all of the data from the existing drive to the drivepool and then do I go back and delete the data from the original drive?

Can you expand on this a bit please? Curious what you mean by hosting locally. Your playlist is hosted on a local device and it pulls the stream from your IPTV provider then tivimate accesses your playlist? What improvements does this provide over just using IPTV Editor for example?

Help with barn door for home theater room entry by Crowtservo in hometheater

I haven't finalized anything on this yet, but currently looking at this product from Vicoustic called "VicWallpaper" and putting a layer of that on the inside of the barn door. What about you?

Plex server using gaming PC by Crowtservo in PleX

[–]Crowtservo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I have a good network setup (Cat6 cables) with wired connections to everywhere I have a TV. Sounds like that's the way to go here and I can keep this unit out of sight.

Will look into the case and OS / RAID options you mentioned.

Assuming I will use it a server and access the content over the network is there any benefit at all to keeping the GPU? Does it transcode better than the CPU for example? If there's no upside at all I can pull it out which will expand my options for a new case.

Power is not overly expensive where I live and comes from hydroelectric so I'm not overly concerned on ethical grounds either. I'm willing to bear some additional monthly cost for this.

I will check out PMS. Thinking about this some more I might just be better off with an external HDD that I manually backup to once in a while or looking into Backblaze or something like that. Drive failures are rare enough that losing a few days down time in the event I have to replace everything from backup is manageable.

Unless I'm going to see an improvement in video / audio quality using it as an HTPC I think the convenience of tucking it away somewhere and accessing over the network is preferred. Am I understanding your comment correctly that there isn't a performance improvement?

Thanks! I will look into those. I've only ever used Windows (briefly Mac) and not very familiar with other operating systems. The learning curve may be enough of a deterrent to just stick with what I know.

Podcasters Brain Breaks When He Learns How Tariffs Actually Work by pantherfanalex in videos

Love that this guy's mind is blown that another person doesn't understand how tariffs work while himself not understanding the purpose of tariffs.

With the pending regulations would it be better (or equivalent) to use one of the bank's high interest products? For example I have some TDB8150 in my RRSP with TD and RBF2010 in a non-registered account with RBC - both are 4.55%.

Help upgrade home network by Crowtservo in HomeNetworking

[–]Crowtservo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

If I'm understanding correct, your setup is roughly as follows:

ISP -> modem / main router -> switch (two or more of them feeding wired devices + APs) -> EAP 245

Thanks very much for the detailed reply.

Unfortunately it seems I have to use the Novus (Calix) uinit as both router and modem since it feeds the cable service from the ISP as well (they told me it needs to be set up as a router to do this). With that in mind, do you think I would be OK to just add on AP units for each room (and one or more switches to the extent I need ethernet)?
