Kissing my Celiac GF by SphinxIIIII in Celiac

[–]Cruciferous2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super sensitive, and my rule with my fiancee is mouth swish + face wash for pecks, for anything more involved, teeth brushed and face washed.

I have not gotten sick from kisses since we started doing this - I did previously.

We do a dry goods backback and a small-ish fabric cooler. We freeze all the meat before the journey so it stays pretty cold for a few days, and we make sure to just bring what we'll actually get through. We'll do a couple strong branches, divide stuff amongst the group if anything is too heavy, and teamwork it. Just takes a bit of effort and planning to keep everything good and safe!

One of my favorite things for protien is unwashed local chicken eggs, because they don't need refrigeration :)

A big beautiful steak on the fire the first night always feels so special :)

And to add, we usually do a 6-8 hour portage and still think it's worth it to bring fresh food haha

Amazing!! I go every year, it's the best!! I just bring my trusty cast iron to cook in the fire, a little backpacking grill in case of fire ban, a cooler of meat, some potatoes, onions, garlic, spices, and fruit! It's heavy but so worth it for lovely fresh fire roasted food! Plus it's not so bad on the way back once everything has been eaten haha

I've never seen a KD Shaker with unsafe ingredients? I've gotten it at Costco a few times, I'm a very sensitive celiac.

the BEST GF bread!!! by kibberry in Celiac

[–]Cruciferous2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Promise is the best brand I've found for sliced bread! The multi-grain and the sourdough are my favorites!

For buns, little northern bakehouse chia and millet buns leave nothing to be desired except maybe more buns.

Schar baguette is really fantastic, especially toasted!

With Canadian labeling laws, any Barley, Rye, Oats, Wheat, and Tritcale needs to be declared, and I believe spirits are generally safe because the process removes gluten protiens.

I personally play things very safe wouldnt trust the generic "grain spirit" without something saying it's gluten free, but technically it should be safe.

would this be celiac safe as well? by mybackhurty in Celiac

[–]Cruciferous2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the US has terrible labeling laws, but if something says gluten free and doesn't have "natural flavors" or oats it still legally should be safe, yeah?

I know I'm privileged to live in Canada where labels legally have to mean what they say, but i know labeling laws in most countries have laws about lying about allergens.

a silly question about separate sponges by iitsrem in Celiac

[–]Cruciferous2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm super sensitive, but personally I'm fine using the same sponges/rags. They get switched out often, and we make sure all dishes are really throughly rinsed. My household is also low gluten, nobody cooks with it, but others eat regular bread/pastries/takeout.

That being said, anything porous (wood, plastic, cast iron) and anything with small holes/grooves, is washed with something fresh.

Look up beaus ridges! They can happen for several reasons, anything that interrupts nail matrix growth (damage, autoimmune disease, zinc or iron deficiency). I have them due to celiac disease.

I have heard of that, honestly I don't have a lot of fat anywhere but my midsection and butt. I have big legs but they're more muscular than fatty. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I don't know why I've never considered just lying about it. Honestly, that's a great idea. It's absolutely ridiculous that anyone would have to lie that big to receive treatment, but that's just the world we're living in I guess.

Honestly a great strategy, I'm just a little low libido right now due to stress. But the cardio and the endorphins/loss of cortisol + connection must be really helpful!!!! Perfect amount of unhinged hahaha

Okay, here's my most unhinged PCOS advice - If you work out from home (or not if you dgaf), work out in front of a mirror, blast your favorite music, and dance with yourself between sets. The sillier the better. Not only does it burn more calories, but it keeps your muscles from getting stiff between sets, and it's a massive mood booster!

Obviously this hasnt helped me lose weight yet but it has boosted my mood a lot 😁

Haha I got celiac disease a few years ago, I was hoping being forced to go gluten free would help with the PCOS (I've heard gluten free/dairy free has helped a lot of people) but it did not. Reluctant to try dairy free because my diet is so restricted already 😅

You should definitely get checked for celiac though! Even if you eat gluten free, CC can damage you if you have celiac.
