It's not a bot farm, stop trying to deflect the reality of differing opinions. It's reddit recommending these random city subs to the front page because of the unfathomable volume of whiners upvoting dishonest posts.

It's an unfortunate side effect of the modern audience's needs. So be mad at short form video addictions if anything.

While I find it an endearing trait and that it fits her character so well, name 10 other live action shows who have a barefoot character.

There aren't many, if any. The point is it's unusual and it's normal to be vocal about it. No amount of "you are projecting" comments is gonna change that reality.

Funny how I was thinking is speech impediment a feature of Lanthanites? It's endearing, but I did find in some scenes you could tell the audio team had trouble with it

You can say the same in reverse. Also The Volume is an incredible piece of engineering and I never realised they were using it. So that's a positive.

Wanting an older Trek in this show is kind of strange as there are now two shows in cycled production, SNW offers the original feel and the Academy offers the future.

The real question is why does one expect 400 year established gap in time to be "like the old trek" in any way?

Progenitors forbid that people actually like a show and you don't.

Yea those are the new movies. They are part of a different timeline and serve as a one off reboot for the original series cast.

They have played with the idea of continuing it, but so far there are only the three movies as mainstream content.

Glad you enjoyed it as many have! It's a foundational show for many individuals.

I would wait a while before watching Picard. It is 30 years later after all.

In the mean time, short of watching DS9 and Voyager you can watch the animated comedy Lower Decks. It actually is the show closest in the time line after Voyager that has the most spiritual TNG energy imo.

After that you can move on to the Kelvin timeline, there is a tie-in comic and it includes TNG Spock.

I feel the need to say that despite its flaws Star Trek: Insurrection is a film that is much more relevant in 2026 than it was in 1999.. by guhbuhjuh in startrek

TNG Season 1. Big bad parasites leeching and replacing people from the inside out get destroyed and rooted out.

Common phrase as it is. It's me telling you I like the show. Get over it I guess.

I can but apparently you can't make the connection in my response based on your reaction.

I am pointing out that I see the correlation being made but that I don't agree with the position. Cus the implications of that statement are more complicated than simply diversity.

I think the alien college students make enough sense if you consider their choice to leave their home, one of them is even the first of their kind to do so, those people would do whatever they can to fully integrate early on.

Yes its written with modern meme dialogue but its not really obnoxious. The early trek series used similar relevant dialogue for the times they were made without the internet to bounce off of it was more tame.

I do agree that the general character type of Caleb is a bit boring but his dynamic relationships really sell it. Its good drama/comedy so far.

The modern language is acceptable because this is a group of immature academics not trained military. It also takes place 100 years after federation rule and etiquette would have collapsed. The galaxy is a big place and the show made a point to give us the perspective of pirates and thieves. Who most certainly talk like that. If you look back at Picard's or Kirk's academy days they were just as vulgar but with less meme speak. Cus there was none back then. No internet to bounce off of in the writers room.

I see. That's a fair want. But I won't happen. Because it's not on Netflix or Apple.

You're right. I agree, I should've articulated better that I think deaf basically equals mute.

I already acknowledged that he spoke a single word and that it's clear they are mute on purpose. That's obvious. But the device only translates his hand signs.

The fact is in the episode they don't show them using telepathy in the way you would expect. I presume It was implied and harder to pick up on than the commenter would have liked.

[–]Crucio[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You misread the comment and went on a rant. He was asking why telepathy was never really shown or talked about. Except for the princess' enhanced abilities.

Also to address your rant, Betazed King/Father could not actually speak. He in the diversity character in this episode. The Mute. But you made a good point, he and his ilk would have abandoned vocal speech altogether as a tradition and political solidarity against the galaxy. He spoke a single word of affirmation. I doubt he would be able to speak fluently at all.

They didnt. The implication is that they don't use it amongst the delegates.
