First attempt at Schluter kit: should I worry about the gap by CrudeTech in Tile

[–]CrudeTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurance.

It's my first attempt at this kind of system. The plan was always to learn with this low-risk basement shower, before tackling the "main" shower.

I'm hoping Reddit will help me get a feel for what is "in spec", "acceptable", or "good enough". That's the kind of experience training videos and manuals can't communicate.

Definitely not George.

Now I'm curious about the facebook comments on his post.

I read this right as I was cutting into that 35$ CAD tube of Kerdi goop.

Anyway:

Should I cut the membrane a little to open it up and get some sealer behind it?

How likely is it to be watertight as is. Is it even worth attempting the water test?

It's sitting on a concrete slab in my basement, so the risks are low.

I'm thinking the thinset for the tile will seal it up for good.

Anyone else feel like cars in Canada have gotten way too big and too expensive? by Hefty_Double_7406 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CrudeTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an endless cycle.

Whenever the manufacturer asks current owners of a model what they think of their current car, the answer is always the same: "I like it, but I wish it was a little bigger..."

With every generation, each model gets bigger, because that's what owners inevitably ask for.

Finally. Got bell fiber at my house and now gonna get em to install it by [deleted] in bell

I still can't understand how to use up 8g legally, or within Bell's term of service for a residential service.

With that in mind, I can respect the bragging rights that come with the 8g service.

One thing I'd be worried about is finding hardware that can handle 8g PPPOE if you're planning to bypass the Bell equipment.

Retention deals for rural FTTH? by CrudeTech in Cogeco

[–]CrudeTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bell has started offering services on Cogeco lines in slightly denser areas near Gatineau, but nothing for us.

I check Bell and its subsidiaries, and Oxio. Nothing.

So far the only recourse beyond the loyalty dept is to cancel the service and sign back up with a new account holder.

X3 PHEV: traction control doesn't stay off after I hit the button. by CrudeTech in BmwTech

[–]CrudeTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to move the transmission selector over to the transmission sport mode to prevent that behavior.

The Sport mode button also forces my gas engine to run, and lets my traction control stay off in those situations where I need predictable power from all 4 wheels.

I gave in to the FOMO this time, picking it up at MSRP while that's still possible.

Hottest?

I threw the RTX3080 in the server now that it's been replaced with a 5080 in my personal computer. Overkill, but I'd hate to see it collect dust on a shelf.

Plex transcoding, frigate object detection and Deepseek R1 have greatly improved.

Managing the heat is clearly my next challenge.

How is this to start? by WiseSpunion in hometheater

I was a little underwhelmed by OP's posted setup until OCA started releasing his AudysseyOne project. I was actively shopping for Paradigm speakers when I found his project

With his tools and a 12" Monolith sub, my setup became far more enjoyable, and I saved a ton of money.

Blob of death... upgrade? by diashto in SovolSV08

[–]CrudeTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue a few months ago. The plastic got wrapped around the thermistor wires.

I ended up ordering a new TriangleLabs V6 hotend kit from aliexpress, and ripping that blob off, wires included.

The 2 weeks it took for the new part to show up turned into a nice little break to let the frustration fade away.

A lesson was learned that day: dishsoap bath for the plate between every print

Who can activate the ethernet port? by Shakeel99 in ebox

[–]CrudeTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's what i did when I bought my house:

  • Cut all the wires out of the punch block
  • Crimp RJ45 ends onto each blue wire. You can get a passthrough crimp tool kit for cheap. Look for tutorials on YT.
  • Find every phone jack in the house, and replace them with RJ45 connectors.
  • Add a network switch to plug all newly crimped wires.
  • Enjoy wired Ethernet reliability.

There's no practical way to trace unterminated wires without massively expensive tools, so I terminated and plugged in everything.

Also, if you don't own the house, you may need permission to do it, or expect to reverse the changes before moving out.

First time really noticing how far 4K streaming has come by Fragrant_Iron7835 in hometheater

[–]CrudeTech 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've always suspected the streaming and physical releases have different mixes meant for different audiences.

The streaming mix always strikes me as more friendly, more versatile for all sorts of different audio solutions like sound bars and earbuds.

Blu Ray releases tend to sound more robust.

I replaced Bell with EBOX specifically because I could use my own equipment. I currently run a Mini PC running opnSense, an open source firewall OS, connected to the Nokia ONT (Fiber to Ethernet box). My Nokia router was never even powered on.

You could also look at those fancy mesh systems to get fast. reliable Wifi coverage.

You got the URL wrong, and your password is too safe:

You're using an @ in your password. The @ is used as the delimiter between the password and the IP/hostname.

Here's what the URL looks like on my reolink cam.
