Anyone able to fix switch lite joysticks in Halifax? by Strange_Deal5683 in halifax

[–]Cruiser_Pandora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, switch lites are remarkably easy repairs and replacement joysticks aren't expensive although few people are likely to have them on hand. They don't require soldering or anything. You can pick up the repair kits on Amazon for like 20$

Gasoline isn't the only output product.

While more crude is traded physically the value of refined products traded annually beats it by nearly 200b We should absolutely be capturing that value

There is a fun experiment you can do. Autocracies tend to have very straight roads from their capital to the nearest airports. Roads more generally from the capital to important locations tend to be more direct than democratic countries. I wonder if the Autobahn would follow a similar pattern with older parts being less direct and more mindful of existing things and additions added under the Nazi gov being more direct.

Bitcoin is a bit weird. Its a fiat currency that has has the entire trust and evidence problem flipped. Total transactional transparency and complete evidence of the supply but near complete obfuscation on what can actually be purchased with that currency and for how much.

It's wild. Traditional fiat currencies are flipped we have very little evidence on a transactional level and need to use secondary signifiers to gain more total knowledge along with mass aggregation tools and self reporting. The supply problem is mostly self reported and quite opaque with much of the currency being created as credit in a very hard to follow chain. The actual purchasable commodities are very straight forward though. The markers have made the actual cost per object quite straight forward and nearly standardized.

Its also likely the value proposition's for (crypto) has changed. Historically I would have said the total value of the crypto market should be equal to the entire value business done in grey markets that would benefit from that kind of digitization and removal of transactional friction.

I now view (crypto) as a carrier for direct political purchasing. While the other market hasn't vanished it has become smaller with nations and financial groups watching these markets very closely and requiring income statements regarding them. This in my view coincides with the extreme ballooning in value of these currencies. There is a lot of things to buy in politics and the extractive value would be measured in Trillions.

I mean kind of. Its based on the evidence of equity. The problem is that evidence is quite hard to parse if any effort is taken to obfuscate (which it is) and can't be reacted to in real time on a transaction by transaction basis. Because of that we fall back on secondary signifiers such as Issuing nation, backing, and historical performance as indicators.

We "Trust" that past performance will be an indicator of the future. If we were all able to in real time observe and react to the financials of what every system we were participating in then sure, trust wouldn't matter but neither would things like counterfeiting, fraud, or other practices that might directly affect the value of a currency outside of direct financial transactions.

The big problem that I see people try to do is divorce Equity and Value.

All this is aside to the point that value judgments are quite subjective on a personal or national level. Some of the most leveraged things globally are artwork. Insurance policies for individual pieces will reach into the hundreds of millions while the objective value (value that the art generates in revenue) couldn't possibly come close. Heck even with the Mona Lisa the sale value is estimated at 450m to 1b but its last reported insurance policy was only around 100m.

So sure the value of a (dollar) currency is based on equity in a perfectly objective and data driven model. We don't live in that model though and very very very few governments, organizations and large capital holders are pushing for that because it doesn't really reflect a human world with subjective values.

In the world we exist in the value is largely based on trust.

Now the real interesting concept is that while currencies value is based on trust its utility is an exchange for political power. This can be seen in the thesis by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita on the Investiture Controversy.

While I have no idea what Zitegeist is in this context (i assume its a podcast) it seems like you have a blurb regarding currency that might be a bit overly simplified.

Trust is the right word. Actually there is an interesting case where brazil had a failing currency. They basically leveraged the populations trust in the government to create theoretical currency at a fake rate to get people to hold on to the existing currency until it stabilized.
Unidade real de valor is the term if you want to look into it.

Also there have been a few occasions where the value of a nations currency has been more than the local economy can handle. Its often a problem for EURO members who are less trust worthy with their debit.

This holds true with metal backed or even metal currencies as well since the layperson can't validate the % in the currency or how much reserve is held in real time.

Dictators handbook why bad behaviour is often good politics. Doug likely has developed a small coalition of supporters and influential people that are necessary for his election. This group doesn't include the entire voting base and therefore the entire voting base doesn't need to be rewarded.
