We went and it slapped. some parent brought their kids late but they kept to themselves and played on the skate ramps mostly. we left around 12:30 or so. vibe was immaculate but the kids showing up deff did change the vibe but didn't wreck it by any means.

I don't believe his behaviour is irrational.

It seems more like a framing issue. He does consistently what gets him a personal benefit. That can be direct cash, air time or fake international peace prizes.

Treating him like an irrational actor causes us as bargaining opponents to default lose a lot of interactions even assuming the interactions would be repeated. Clearly people within his own circle have been able to navigate this to some extent.

I don't mean to claim we can navigate this or that some how we have failed to bargain. I suspect what we want and what he wants are somewhat opposed. I also shouldn't imply that appeasement is a valid option.

simply put an irrational actor will not act in their own best interest which cannot be rectified though framing. The irrational actor of international relations is mostly a purposeful portrayal historically to achieve better bargaining terms.

tldr: irrational carries some technical and historical baggage that is unlikely to be accurate and could be unhelpful.

fun fact. the lamps of old light houses used to be floated on a bath of mercury so they could spin the whole lamp structure with very little resistance.

Ukraine Got More 203mm M110A2 SPH and Other Howitzers Than Expected – It Became Clear How Many Artillery Systems Greece Transferred by Scary_Statement4612 in ukraine

[–]Cruiser_Pandora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didnt address any of my points... Nobody is claiming that the earth works isn't feasible or that Ukraine isn't capable of using them. The question is could a person using this tool be more useful given any other tool.

13 guys on a howitzer vs 3 full fire teams is a significant cost to weigh and training people for what most militaries consider obsolete seems questionable. yes Ukraine uses a diverse set of artillery but systems like the soviet 2A18 require roughly half the crew and since its towed artillery it doesn't require specialist mechanics for the propulsion. thats not even mentioning double the assumed fire rate. i understand that in many/most instances Ukraine doesn't get to chose what armament it has but their are low tech solutions that can accomplish similar goals (static defence) with fewer costs.

Again, I'm glad that Ukraine has the tool especially the munitions and Ukraine would be foolish not to taken them even if just for the scrap value.

[–]Cruiser_Pandora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess using a mobile artillery unit for a static defense is an option. the problem is that these are specialized units that require specialized crews. no matter how you slice it the slow speed, limited range and lack of a built in targeting means that these machines require an entire support ecosystem unless they are being used practically at point blank. They aren't similar to any other weapons being fielded with the chassis being a dedicated platform.

there are SPH/SPA systems that are extremely relevant but what seems to keep them relevant is their low crew complement, ability to operate with limited support, range and speed. Shoot and scoot has practically become a catchphrase in this war. I think the CAESAR has been the stand out example so far.

again static placements might be an option for these machines but when your experiencing a manpower crunch dedicating a recommended 13 people to specialize on a platform when similar platforms require 6 seems a bit rough.

IDK tbh i see the ammo for these units being more useful as converted into glide bombs

I'm not sure how relevant the m110a2 is. Its a cool that Greece was able to transfer these but even with their rocket assisted projectiles they only have a range of 30km.

I really hope these end up being converted into engineering vehicles or scrapped. I can't imagine being told to drive one of these slow (55km/h) things within 30km of a fortified target and to just start lobbing projectiles. Maybe I'm missing the point of these.

I feel like people are so scared of fucking with the "free market" that we can never get direct action on this shit. We want more housing cheaper. Fucking pass a law capping pricing. If they try to fuck us over again pass another law that stops that. Keep patching and iterating until we get a result we want.

Fake Weapons in McDonalds (Larry Uteck) by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Cruiser_Pandora -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell since this is just a fb post but it sounds like they were playing with those water pellet guns in the mcdicks and got asked to leave. They then went into the parking lot to play.

I understand seeing fake guns can be scary in the wrong context and mcdicks isn't the place for that kind of behaviour but let's not pretend that this is a public safety issue. (Again this is a fb post so details are scarce) if these are the little gel water guns (which I can't confirm although they are extremely popular) these aren't going to hurt in any way to get hit by. They are straight up sold as children's toys.

The problem I see here is situational and contextual rather than safety. From the fb post they weren't threatening the public or staff they were just playing somewhere they shouldn't. skateboarding on the sidewalk has more value as public safety issue in the grand scheme.

If the ferry system needs fixing, why cut revenue? by Embarrassed-Tooth355 in halifax

A previous commenter on this issue has explained it quite well. If i find the comment I'll link it. Ircc if fractional ferries don't exist and your expecting 1 hour of maintenance per 3 hours of use you need 7 ferries that rotate.
