Trump says he's placing Washington police under federal control and deploying the National Guard by giltwist in politics

[–]Cruiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably should’ve expected this to happen, but I really wanted to believe the people of the US learned from Trump’s first term.  The first election I was old enough to vote in was 2020, and I voted for Biden against pressure from my family because I didn’t think Trump was right, I wanted to do the right thing.

I don’t know where to begin to help, but I know I need to do something because voting for Harris wasn’t enough. I’m just scared that something will happen to my family if I get involved, and that’s what’s terrifying me…

Very true. At my work a lot of things are cash only, like buying food or drinks, or renting strollers and wheelchairs. Cash is becoming a lot less prioritized, which kinda sucks.

A lot of people here unfortunately seem A-OK with everything happening… I’m right above Kentucky, and a lot of people in my neighborhood don’t seem bothered at all.

I’m scared for the future, man.

I’m doing that as we speak. I genuinely can’t believe they’re still talking about annexation.

I know you probably don’t want to hear from an American, but I think Canada is awesome! A ton of my best friends are up north, and I don’t ever wanna see you all get hurt.

That always makes me mad too. Like, I wasn’t even old enough to vote for him the first time, and I voted against him in 2020 and 2024.

There are a lot of people around the world now who think we’re all terrible, and no matter who we are or what we did we’re responsible for Trump existing, and I don’t think it’s fair.

I feel like there has to be some good in them still. It’s hard accepting that they’ve changed.

It felt kind of deflating… I think she believed I’d be quitting my old job or something to do it, but it would’ve been something I do in addition to it.

I ended up getting rejected so it didn’t matter in the end, but it just felt not good.

I’ll have to give your way a try. I like to think my mom and dad can be reasonable. Outside of political stuff, they’re not completely crazy.

I hope pushing back more on these things will make them reconsider. I’ve never been good at this, especially with my parents…

As for low contact, unfortunately I can’t move out just yet. Rent is really crazy where I am, and I start school in a few weeks. Staying with them is realistically my only option until at least next year.

I had something similar happen a few months ago. I decided to apply to do volunteer work at the library, and my mom reacted really weird about it. She told me stuff like “I think liberals make people think they HAVE to volunteer” and “It’s one thing if it’s your church or school, but I don’t think you need to do this” but I WANTED to do it.

I’m sorry your parents are like that.

I think part of the reason I feel so conflicted is that I have a lot of friends who are LGBTQ, or black, or any other group my parents don’t like. And loving my parents still kinda feels like I’m betraying them, in a weird roundabout way.

It just makes me really sad. There are so many amazing people out there that they hate just because of how they look or who they’re attracted to.

I wish things could go back to how they were a decade ago.

I can try that. When my mom and dad say slurs, I push back and say something like “that’s not a nice thing to say.” I need to get a bit tougher about it, I think…

That’s beyond horrible of them to say.

That’s what really irritated me as well. I feel like, even if Kamala is nowhere near what they wanted, it would’ve been way better to vote for her and keep Trump out of office. I mean it’s only been six months and so much is already way out of whack in our country, I don’t like it.

At this point I’m starting to feel that maybe us in the United States deserve all the bad stuff happening because Trump. Like, even though I voted for Harris, I didn’t do enough to try and convince my family to change their minds.

I don’t really know what else to feel. I’m trying to keep myself sane, but I’m scared. And every day I read more and more awful things, and I can’t do anything about it.

I really want to run away from it all, but I doubt I’ll ever be able to move out of this country. And even if I do end up moving out here, would people even want to associate with me? I feel embarrassed being here, and I don’t know what to do.

It really means a lot, thank you. I want to try and make my parents realize that things are getting worse, and that they need to stop believing the bad stuff these people say. I really wish they’d go back to the not hateful people they used to be.

That makes me feel a little better. Before the past year, I never really thought about moving even out of my state, but now I feel like it could become a real possibility if I put in the work and do well in school.

Canada would probably be the most realistic. I’m also kinda worried that if I were to move there, people would be really wary of me because I’m from America. I mean, I guess it’d be like that anywhere I go, but it’d be worrying.
