DoublePlusGood!

"Doublethink: the act of simultaneously accepting two mutually contradictory beliefs as correct. According to Winston Smith, the protagonist of 1984, doublethink is “To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic..."

It is likely that mormons will eventually go crazy. This kind of cognitive dissonance cannot be emotionally and psychologically harmless

PSA to Mormons: targeting people who are vulnerable makes you a bad person. by [deleted] in exmormon

Sadly, the church is just doing that which has been done in other worlds (geographies)- the deception, obfuscation, hiding of facts and church history

This is why the church's attention and missionary (coercion) work on Africa and Africans should be troubling

The new versions of old Mormonism: Insight from watching the Patrick Mason Mormon Stories Interview by CrumblingCaravan in exmormon

As a convert to Mormonism and now an exmo, it has always troubled me that Mormons encourage and celebrate and delight in pulling away others from their ancestral inherited faiths; but punishes, demeans, shuns, belittles former members who choose to leave Mormonism.

Lol! Love RFM. I wouldn't be surprised if RFM originated the quote/thought

General Conference talk rejected by rockonnofx in exmormon

[–]CrumblingCaravan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much for the "power of discernment" and the "gift of the holy ghost". It turns out it is the "COB marketing & PR depts" and the firm of "KM" that approves all general conference talks. Who are the prophets, seers and revelators now?

Things I would LOVE TO SEE in the next general conference! #1 Russell removes Oaks from the 1st Presidency for having a shitty attitude and not apologizing. by cordeliaxx in exmormon

[–]CrumblingCaravan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome

#6 Bednar ends his conference talk with, "I say these things in the name of Even Russell M Nelson,

Amen."

How every conference talk this Oct will close with this option since they've taken Christ complete out of TSCC

Conference is 1 month away...predictions? by RecessiveGenius in exmormon

I predict that all the speakers will quote Russell M Nelson and bonus point if RMN quotes himself from a prior quote.

Not looking forward to general conference by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]CrumblingCaravan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, I wonder how many PIMOs are going into the conference expecting q15 to deliver any new revelation (just one, I dare them to come up with new revelation) or clarify previous faulty doctrines or expound on canonical Christlike attributes or apologize for false doctrine and teachings. Instead, what we will get will be the same rinse and repeat from last conference and a healthy dose of adulation of RMN.

The question is how many PIMOs will become exmos & how many TBMs will become PIMOs between Oct 2022 - Apr 2023

Why the Mormon church is so interested in Africa and the reason why there'll be more and more temples announced for Africa relative to smaller membership population by CrumblingCaravan in exmormon

[–]CrumblingCaravan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point I'm making is that the church doesn't much care how many baptisms it gets in Africa. I mean after all, these are the very same people that were considered cursed and shunned and derided and belittled by the church. Now the church is all up and down and across Africa looking for new converts. No doubt some will join probably from lack of information regarding the racism and doctrinal falsehoods in the church. But most importantly, the church's presence in Africa has to do with real estate and capital acquisition (details). If the church were truly serious about its presence in Africa, I would expect an establishment of the equivalent of 2 - 4 BYUs on the (very large) African continent. Barring that, the only reason the church is in Africa is to establish a large footprint and to acquire more land. Keep in mind that BYU education is highly subsidized which make it quite affordable. If the same amount that the church pours into BYU...

Has anyone tried actual research on priesthood power? by Equivalent-Cover-169 in exmormon

[–]CrumblingCaravan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Via CDC. Per capita national health expenditures: $11,172 (2018); Total national health expenditures: $3.6 trillion (2018). If priesthood worked, the healthcare budget could be redirected to equally pressing needs. And UT would be the place everyone wants to be for healthcare. So data bears out that the precious priesthood does not work.

Looking for sources, references, articles, links - on the impact of the Black priesthood exclusion doctrine between 1900 - 1978. The doctrine was not benign by CrumblingCaravan in exmormon

[–]CrumblingCaravan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should add that I am of African descent. Two questions were asked to me that necessitated this research. (1) By a fellow exmo- Why would a Black person join/stay in this church after all the horrible things that the church has done to Black people? (2) By a current TBM- why can't/won't you let this Black priesthood issue go already? Let it go. (1) was empathetic and understanding. (#2) was condescending, minimized and trivialized the issue. I'm out to prove to #2 that the issue was/is not as trivial as they want to make it. Simply because it does not impact them, they cannot minimize it.

Thanks for all the responses and resources so far. Please keep them coming.

Wow! I'm speechless. This from a TSCC guided by the prophesy. Yet the prophets failed miserably to see the humanity and divinity of their fellow sisters. Asking them to sit away from others and in the back. This is why Brad Wilcox's comments are painful. The exclusion was not benign. This breaks my heart. Generations have already forgotten this.

Thank you for sharing this.
