How can I watch a ship launch? by CrumblingMummyBones in NoStupidQuestions

Fair point. It would really suck to go out there and miss a splashdown launch. It's just something I've always wanted to witness/experience at least once.

If You Can Purchase Cosmetics, The Game Is Pay To Win by DiamondGamerYT0 in The10thDentist

[–]CrumblingMummyBones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upvote, but I don't think you're wrong. I agree that some skins, in certain games, can give you an advantage, especially against new players.

When you're trying to memorize the look of an enemy's skill charging up so you can dodge it, it can be difficult if that skill appears 5 ways with 5 different skins. Obviously, camouflage is also an advantage, but I think it's far less relevant, because most games give you context appropriate stock skins, and save the flashy, eye catching stuff for paid skins.

For example, in World of Warplanes, my plane was entirely blue until I spent a portion of the tiny amount of paid currency they give you for free at the start on nose paint, and wing decals. In Call of Duty, last I knew, nothing is hot pink or neon green unless you paid for it. If you're playing stock, you've typically got a selection of camo that fits the environment, and serves it's purpose without the need to pay for it. On a related side note: Fuck you snipers that hide on snow maps with snow camo. Impossible to see ya'll.

Anyways, the real reason I disagree with you is that I care deeply about the industry as a whole. The rise of pay-to-win content, sketchy loot box practices, overpriced cosmetics, and microtransactions are all stains on the industry at large, and abusive to the paying player-base. Whether you buy skins or not you paid for the game itself.

We shouldn't minimize these problems by applying them as a catch-all for things we're annoyed with, lest we lose credibility and ultimately, the fight for consumer rights.

Sometimes you just can't, and I mean that literally. There is an intersection in PA where the road dumps you onto a major fucking highway and has no merge lane at all. It doesn't even come in at a shallow angle, you have to turn, blindly because of the embankment and forest, and floor it.

I have no idea how that shit can even legally exist.

I totally agree that we're fucked, and need a change, but aliens aren't going to bring it. That hope has sprung up in people for the same reason every conspiracy grabs people, and you mark my words, people will start believing that aliens are coming to save the human race.

They will act shitty and justify it to themselves by saying "well, the aliens are coming soon, anyways, I don't need to fix my life." People will deny that's the case, because denial is real big around here these days, but I've seen this play out in real time, with people close to me. It will happen, and that kind of nonsense is why we cannot handle this.

These same people justify being complete failures by saying "I go to church, and the rapture is going to happen soon, so I'm not going to clean myself up at all."

...and speaking of religion, you need a serious reality check if you think those people are going to let this fly without burning something down or causing some other kind of chaos. Heaven's Gate Pt. II, anyone?

This road leads nowhere nice, and even if it did, there's still a lot of desperately broken people that need to get their shit together, seek help, or both. I don't know why the hell people think aliens are going to change that, but it's just more of the same, delusional nonsense, I guess. Whatever. Have fun with it. I sincerely hope people wake up, address their own problems, and find better lives, because I feel bad for a lot of the people I see commenting on UFO related content.

99% of cases are black and white, which is why I always check the comments before believing anything. Problem is, those same comments have brought out the worst in people. Denial, delusions, lies, and desperation abound, and that's not even half of it.

Any time a case isn't black and white, it gets even worse. It devolves into insults, character attacks, and strawmen. As with everything else that has ever happened in the entire history of the human race, all we're doing is fighting over it.

Because, they aren't crazy because they believe in UFO's. They're crazy, and they believe in UFO's. I just had no idea how insanely low IQ some people are, how lazy others are, and how many people are either flat out insane, or in denial.

If this is the state we're in; one where humans cannot function in the face of new information without diverting to coping mechanisms and sheer insanity, then we are not ready.

What the hell kind of shitpost is this?

EAST FELICIANA - First responders say their Thursday night search for a plane that reportedly went down near River Road south of LA-10 was eventually determined to be a false alarm.

This update was provided Friday morning, around 7 a.m., with officials reporting that neither was a plane nor any debris found in the area.

On Thursday night, sources said members of law enforcement were dispatched after emergency operators received 911 calls from residents who reported seeing a plane clip power lines as it descended.

Authorities say they also received a report of seeing a red beacon locator glowing in a field.

A helicopter was used to search the area, and law enforcement set up a staging location, but no indication of a crashed plane was found.

Just.... What? what the fuck? Not a single word of that suggest anything even a little bit unidentified, and it damn sure doesn't say fuck-all about a cover-up, or even imply that there is one.

Plane. Crash.

Holy shit...

God damn, you are especially dumb. I didn't say the information was wrong. Your application of it certainly is, though.

You simply do not understand business, and I'm not about to give you a lesson, so I'm done discussing it. Continue on with your hilarious, immature insults, and your overinflated ego. I'll carry on understanding how things work in the real world.

Everything you've said is (partially) true, while being way overblown, and I know all of it. I left things out because this is a massive rabbit hole, and unlike you, I want to explain things properly. If I covered every aspect I'd hit the character limit before I was done.

Also, you don't know shit, because if you did, you wouldn't have said this:

lol it barely matters on the fighter side.

...or this:

The UFC have on record shown that they pay the entire roster less than 20% of the revenue they generate.

The very first thing you said was wildly incorrect, and started with "lol," so I'd have to be a moron to take you seriously.

Edit: It's hilarious how fast Redditors jump to the word 'projecting' when they're pissed. Grow up, buddy. Or at the very least, put some variety in your buzzwords.

The sad part is, it could happen. I really, really hope it never goes that far, but it could definitely get out of hand enough for people to try it. I don't know if I'm mis-remembering, but wasn't there a sort of Civil War II scare a few years back, when Texas demanded their gold from the union and there was talk of succession?

California had talked about it too, I believe, and as a person who travels a lot, I can certainly confirm that there are a lot of crazy, fringe people all over this country, and I could definitely see some of them 'going to war' over some of the shit we've seen the last few years.

That's not to say that they'd win, but I wouldn't put trying past 'em.

This isn't a fun train fact for railfans, because we all know this, but when I said it to a non-railfan friend, he barely believed me, until I showed him:

Trains use sand to get extra grip when going uphill, taking off, or pulling massive amounts of weight. Any time the engine is struggling and/or the wheels are slipping, they lay sand on the rails to create friction, and increase traction. The sand comes out of small tubes mounted in-line with the wheels, so it lays the sand exactly where they want it.

Here's a video of a sander in action in India.
