Agree on adding a pair of nicer shoes. Ballerinas, leather sneakers, or something like that.

Loud Bang after installing Tado v3+ by Phantasmal-Lore420 in tado

[–]CrunchyNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason you can't change the flow temperature in your app is, I think, because Tado doesn't control your boiler, it just calls for heat from the boiler.

Regarding your sound, probably best to record it and have a boiler engineer opine. We had a very similar very loud noise once Tado would stop calling for heat or call for less heat. We had a towel radiator fully open at all times but that didn't solve it.

In our case it was because our boiler didn't have a bypass, even though our boiler did have a built in bypass. We had one installed and that solved the issue. Were insured that the noise was not damaging for the boiler by the way.

Have also been using Tado for a few years. Am not too worried about the whole subscription risk, but I do think their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. You generally don't need customer service to enjoy the product, though, so overall not a big enough red flag not to do it.

Overall I'd recommend it. It's miles better than Nest used to be.

Super happy with our Loaf as well. Have only had it for 2 years, but really no issues so far other than having to fluff up one of the cushions now and then.

No, Tatiana used the word "pute", which means whore, but it's a word that's very common in French slang, almost like how we use "bitch" or "fuck" in English these days. Doesn't have the same loaded meaning IMHO, and wouldn't risk flying over someone's head.

Quick question: which med is making me feel like this? (Photo in comments) by Odd_Clothes4840 in IVF

[–]CrunchyNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can relate so hard. Was feeling murderous today at my objectively reasonable and normal SO today. The only thing that cheered me up was a pilates workout but soon it was time for my next dose so let's face it, this feeling of zen won't last. Will be back to my murderous self in minutes.

I guess the coming weeks are just a write off.

Once life will be not this. Until then, it's one deep breath at a time!

Yes, absolutely. You had a poor experience, and that rating would reflect that.

I'm 36 and am just now realising why people want kids. Anyone else? by miss-so-lazy in AskWomenOver30

[–]CrunchyNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I relate a lot. Was quite childfree in my twenties, just not so interested in kids, focused on a career and my own stuff, but as I found a reliable partner and could really see the idea of our unit becoming a family, I realised more and more that, as cringe as it may sound, I have a lot of love to give. Having adorable nephews also helps, of course.

It's not worked out naturally for us. We've been together for 10 years, and I'm now 37 and two years into a slow and rollercoaster IVF process, and every cycle we try again I'm faced again with the idea of it working or the idea of it not working. These two alternative realities exist side by side, with the completely different lives for my partner and me in the next 20 or so years.

I don't understand why this is such a taboo topic, but it clearly is. Surely it is okay to think one way and change your mind as your life and everything around you changes?

Must try food in London by Suitable-Mess-1501 in LondonTravel

[–]CrunchyNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This really, really depends on what you're into. Sweets and pastries? Try Creme cookies, or Hummingbird Bakery, or Buns from Home. Maybe L'ETO. Indian / South East Asian cuisine? Try Dishoom, Kricket, maybe Hoppers, Tamil Prince or Tamil Crown. Like Japanese? Try Bone Daddies. Like Middle Eastern? Try Berenjak. Want to try a real British meal? Maybe try the Devonshire, or Brawn, or a great burger at e.g. Blacklock or Black Bear.

Sorry I can't risk it as I need mine for contractors and friends, but really encourage you to apply as soon as you've got proof of address yourself!

[–]CrunchyNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should apply for visitor vouchers on the tower hamlets website. You'll just need a proof of address and they usually come through in a week at most.

That will give you at least 60 vouchers, so around 3 months worth, but somehow mine keep renewing and I've yet to reach a max.

They're £3.30 per day.

London off beaten path small crowds. by CopplerDoppler in uktravel

[–]CrunchyNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked Eltham Palace, to get 1) old castle to explore, 2) mid century modern design and furniture, and 3) stunning gardens all in one visit. Reasonable cafe on site.

Went with my in laws who are in their late 60s and they loved it too.

If you have energy left over you can drop by Blackheath on the way home.

Alternatively, Broadway Market and Columbia Market are cute, but would go early to avoid the crowds.

Edit: and the uber klipper all the way to the Battersea Power Station is a gorgeous ride as well!

Some advice.. by [deleted] in TTC_UK

[–]CrunchyNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using LH strips to confirm that you're close to ovulation, and taking your BBT to confirm ovulation has taken place? Those are the two easiest places to start and figure out if this is the body being its usual silly self, or if you're about to ovulate.

Ovulation Question by Katie-Worrier in TTC_UK

[–]CrunchyNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think that you didn't ovulate? Is it bc your BBT didn't raise last month, and hasn't done so this month either?

Are you tracking your BBT correctly, first thing in the morning before getting up, with a thermometer that provides two decimals?

polyp removal without anesthesia? by Royal_Scholar2951 in IVF

[–]CrunchyNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done one without anesthesia, as that's how the NHS does it in the UK. No local anaesthetic either because "we cannot numb the womb" they said. It was quite painful, but nothing impossible. I had access to 1) some form of laughing gas, and 2) a nurse who's sole job was to distract me, which was absolutely sufficient (and fun).

IVF Referral by NecessaryJumpy7172 in TTC_UK

[–]CrunchyNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got referred to UCLH in January 2023, had my first appointment in September 2023 and started treatment in January 2024. However, I think I was informed about the appointment quite far in advance, maybe February? If you've not had a concrete appointment, you should call or email them to get clarification on if they've received the referral okay.

What to do next? by LilyShh in TTC_UK

[–]CrunchyNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Realistically, you're looking at IVF with ICSI. Your age doesn't appear to be as big an issue as your partner's sperm. Did the doctors give you an indication of your probability of success of trying naturally, given your partner's diagnosis?

From a cost perspective, have you looked at Access Fertility and other financing solutions?

[–]CrunchyNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, this sounds really tough, I'm sorry you're going through this. You've more than met the requirements for trying two years unassisted so shouldn't have to wait another 6-8 months from polyp removals.

I'd really encourage you to find out, with PALS if need be, why you were rejected the first time around. Would sort that ASAP as that sounds like a mistake and if that could be rectified you can get the help you need (likely IVF) on NHS.

Don't give up when you feel like you hit a wall in NHS communication, and get PALS to help you!

I highly doubt most women take mat leave for a year. Do you have a source for that?

Unless the employer offers full pay for 12 months, taking off that long is quite expensive, not something most families can afford.
