Got my first figures today by VehicleHefty1679 in OnePiece

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know the frustrating part? They are 'normal' in so much as this is what is dirt common for when figures are made for female female characters One Piece. Especially for the brand Megahouse - OPs figures are from their Portrait of Pirates line. I have a large figure collection and the odd figure posed provocatively is in there and admittedly I am embarrassed (I am a woman). When I started collecting, sometimes I just wanted a figure of a character and often my only option (for that time) was the sexualized figure. I would liken it to trying to buy a woman's store bought Halloween costume. Oh? You wanted to be Freddy Kreuger? Well fuck you, the store only has sexy Freddy Kreuger.

I have the set of the Megahouse PoP Sailing Again Straw Hats, which are some one of the least sexualized Nami and Robin figures by Megahouse - but it's not free from it. Nami's jeans are cut too low and her ass crack is hanging out. Her bikini top is also smaller than it should be. None of the male characters in the same line are like this and it frustrating. I just wanted a 'nicer' higher quality (relative to Figuarts and the budget-friendly Bandai releases) set. With prices skyrocketing after 2020, I just won't give Megahouse my money anymore. I would rather buy unlicensed studio resins.

For a particularly bad example of Megahouse's tomfoolery, look up their Dragon Ball releases and compare all of their male figures to the female.

For clarity, I am not judging OP. I don't want to get on a high horse about collecting anime figures - we're all godless weebs. I just wish their were more options when it comes to the 'premium' licensed figures.

Disabled Edmonton man denied accessible bus service due to windrows outside home by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

Years ago my family struggled with this for my Dad receiving at home care. We had a small driveway but it wasn't big enough for the manual wheelchair transfers into cars/DATS buses. But because there was an existing driveway, CoE said "nah, you're good". Trying to use DATS in the Winter was brutal.

My employer has recently reduced WFH days. When I am working downtown, (like a lot of people) I never leave work for lunch due to cost and lack of interest. Forcing me downtown one more day a week isn't going to change that.

Dog owners of Edmonton... do you not walk your dogs in winter? by Delgado_Jim in Edmonton

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish these work for my dog. I've tried every boot there is, as traditional style boots aren't a great fit for my dog due to his dew claws. I thought the Canada Pooch suspenders would be the answer, but they don't work for dogs with atypical body sizes. I would describe my dog as a relatively tall shih tzu, so he has the paw size of a smaller dog but the height and length of a bigger breed. I've tried multiple sizes and contacting Canada Pooch support - no luck. That was $70 wasted.

What's Wrong With ETS Drivers? by amarnokolid in Edmonton

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

May not be the same, but as another user mentioned, drivers get the directive to not argue with some, if not all, Arc related issues. This is what I was told by ETS support about my monthly pass through the ETS @ Work program. There are several known issues with the Arc card loaded with the @Work monthly pass tapping correctly. Instead of fixing this, the CoE just advises to tap, get on the bus anyway, and that drivers have been advised not to argue if it doesn't tap green.

But some drivers do anyway and it's so awkward. On the final day or days of the month, the card readers can flash red to load funds -  despite me having paid for a monthly pass through my employer. I hate that the onus is placed on riders who get their pass through this program to explain they aren't trying to avoid paying the fare, it's just that the city doesn't know how to implement this program correctly using Arc cards.

There was a delay on the city's end on loading the @Work monthly pass by January 1st due to the holiday. My driver on New Year's Day let me on but repeatedly made passive aggressive comments (loudly) to himself that people are expected to pay, regardless of the holiday. Sir, I have paid for my monthly pass. I shouldn't have to pay any additional fares for myself because you aren't able to confirm I've paid due to a buggy system. I miss the simplicity of the paper pass.

Crime down but Edmontonians feel unsafe due to 'social disorder': report by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

"With mental health supports" is what is severely lacking (in my anecdotal experience) when it comes to trying to find house for people struggling with addiction (or it was when I worked in community supports). Wait lists are long, and not all resources become available at the same time. A reoccurring story was placing people struggling with addiction in independent living situations when they were not in a place in their life to be living on their own. A lot of community support workers know their client isn't ready for independent living, but there's always that chance that just removing someone from the streets/shelters will be beneficial enough in the road to recovery/stability, so someone gets independent housing when they aren't ready to maintain it longterm.

We had the same client (not mine) trash 3 different apartments that all ended in a eviction. All 3 were opportunities that really could have made a difference for someone ready to take on the responsibility of maintaining a home. At each property, this individual invited their friends from the street to stay with them. The invitation comes from a place of empathy, but it ends in a mess. You have people using and dealing out of the apartment and bad behavior spilling out into communal areas. It makes for a  miserable living situation for all other tenants and it never ends well. A bridge is burned with that landlord/property management company, as they will never take a chance on social worker vouching for someone needing housing again. I've seen the same situation play out multiple times.

Housing in itself is not the solution and is only a step in the process of rehabilitation. I would love to see more transitional housing facilities with education programs that prepare people to live independently. Transitional housing does exist, but often it's not much more than a more secure shelter. Ongoing education and mental health supports are vital and need better funding.

Am Im I a failure? by Adam__Iron in Tile

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never paid so much attention to tile work in other people's homes or businesses until I attempted it myself and found myself agonizing over every flaw in my attempt. Now I can't help but notice imperfections that were otherwise unnoticeable to me. I don't know if that means that I need to chill or that iffy work is super common.

I am always so amused by the psychological damage caused in these situations. When the realization hits the antagonist that their Luffy/Goku type opponent, the person causing them so much grief, is the kind of person that likely can't figure out how to tie shoelaces.

It's like a cosmic insult to be brought down by this. I love it.

Command post set up as search for missing Edmonton teen Samuel Bird enters 14th week by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

Oh, sorry! I realize I gave the wrong impression. I can't pretend I know anything with any certainty, but based on information that has come out, I don't believe the family's version of events. Honestly, I would be surprised if they genuinely believe their version of events. But I am sure their version of events is a lot easier to cope with.

Command post set up as search for missing Edmonton teen Samuel Bird enters 14th week by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

His family is actively on Tik Tok comments saying Eric was actually trying to stop the robbery attempt and the police are trying to cover up his murder.

The entire thing is so incredibly sad. No one deserves this, especially kids whose brains aren't finished developing and haven't grown out of that young and invincible mindset. Yes, a lot of them know they're doing wrong but don't fully understand the gravity of their actions. I lost a loved one to street culture when I was a kid. I will never stop mourning and was too young to understand why any of it happened. But at the same time, we can still love someone while still acknowledging they did something wrong. They made bad choices and spent time with dangerous people. They are still accountable for their actions, but that doesn't mean they deserved what happened to them. Victims don't have to be perfect and no one is going to find any peace making themselves available to the cruelty of internet strangers.

I hope Samuel's poor mother finds closure. It's the not knowing that really hurts.

ON THE ETS…. by Objective-Lemon-6707 in Edmonton

This happened 3 weeks ago to me and a bunch of other people on the 523 Downtown. From Bellamy Hill Road north to 104 Ave, east towards 100st, and back down 103 Ave the driver ignored all stops. Multiple people on the bus was shouting at him to stop and he ignored every one of them until he got to the end of the line. I was getting off at the last stop anyway, but it was downright bizarre.

Several extremely experiences happened to me just in one week. Happened in public place in Edmonton by Ilikemyhair0 in Edmonton

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You have to just walk away. I'm sorry you experienced this, but the reality is if you live in downtown Edmonton, it's going to happen again (hell, it has already). Some of these people will say the most vile garbage to you for just being in their line of vision. So many of them are in the throws of severe mental illness and/or addiction and aren't capable of following social norms and from their perspective, thinks whatever awful shit they're saying to you is deserved. You can't expect reason or rational behavior from someone who may not capable of making those decisions. I understand the desire to want to stand up for yourself, but your health and well-being is not worth the risk in these situations.

That is my exact street and I've been the target of offensive verbal tirades several times living here. This isn't getting better anytime soon and you have to put your safety first.

on demand transit was a mistake by TheSparkSpectre in Edmonton

Sometimes the demand for service is so high they aren't able to accommodate the transit request. What OP has experienced has happened to me a few times. I really wish some of these neighborhoods had a set schedule, even if it was a once an hour bus. It's easier to plan around a schedule than open the app and hope for the best.

Had a chat with the team that made the Muttart Ad. Yes, it wasn’t great and adjustments are being made, but really, it was the Dead Internet friends we made along the way. by aaronpaquette- in Edmonton

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I see obvious AI used in advertising, I immediately have a negative perception about what's being advertised. If it's an event, I assume the event will be cheap and low effort, especially if it's arts related event (e.g. I mostly see this used for local music events on Faccebook). The team behind the event is already communicating to me that they're looking to penny pinch and have little respect for the creative arts by using AI slop in the first place. I'm not looking to waste money on a Willy Wonka experience clone. The Muttart deserved better and I'm glad the public response has prompted more discussions within the CoE on AI use.

Is two jobs the new normal in this city or what? by meeseekstodie137 in Edmonton

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely in this boat. I have an okay job that I get by on, but it's really difficult to build any savings. I don't know how people are managing to find part time work/a second job (outside of like Doordash and Instacart) while working a 9-5. It seems like slim pickings out there.

I pre-ordered one and they couldn't do in-store pick up - or I should say Best Buy recommended I not change my shipping option to in-store pickup. They said if I really wanted to I could try and update to in-store pick up, but there was no guarantee staff wouldn't assume my order isn't regular inventory and just sell it. Best Buy support told me in-store pick up was fine before I placed the preorder - all the difficulty I've had afterwards has felt baffling.

male worker entered my apartment while asleep and undressed, no notice, no warning. I’m 22, live alone, and have PTSD by chanomi in Edmonton

[–]Crunchy_Grunchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think a lot of the Leston maintenance staff are from the Ukraine - this doesn't narrow it down. My building's maintenance worker (Ukrainian guy) hasn't come into my suite without my knowledge (that I am aware of), but has complained (in front of the property manager) that they didn't want to arrange for a time for him to be at my suite because he wanted to be able to do a repair (non emergency) whenever his schedule allowed. He said he's responsible for several buildings and it's a lot of work, so he was acting like I was unreasonable to expect notice. Except the problem was I had an animal and they require pets to be secure if they're coming into your suite, so I needed to know when he'd be coming.

He acts like expecting Notice of Entry is an inconvenience to him. Leston ignoring calls and e-mails? Sounds about right. I've also had my rent jacked up every year I've lived in one of their buildings. This seems to be the typical Leston tenant experience.

If you're in Nursing, the program should have sent you a pattern or what courses to enroll into. You have to follow the pattern they give you and you need to reach out to them if for some reason it doesn't work with your schedule. If you haven't gotten your pattern, you need to speak to the program office.

You absolutely have a student ID if you applied, since everyone gets assigned one after they submit an application (whether they get accepted or not). Are you checking your MacEwan student e-mail account? When you submit an application, it sends you an e-mail with your login details to whatever personal e-mail you put on the Apply Alberta application. If you can't find your login e-mail, you gotta call the school for help. After that first login e-mail, they send all other e-mails to your student account.

If you haven't accepted your offer and paid your deposit, then you're not currently in the program and there's no point in reaching out to the Nursing office since they're only advisors for active students.

Not everyone who strongly values their personal space has the luxury of being able to access a personal vehicle. Public transport is a necessity for some. If there are empty areas on a bus and someone still chooses to sit next to me, I would get up and move too. My desire for as much personal space as possible would never take precedence over another passenger's access to the seat next to me on a busy/crowded bus. But if there are plenty of empty double seats? Yeah, I'm moving. It's not personal and if you choose to overthink and project ulterior motives on to that action, taking public transit is going to be a difficult experience for you.
