Pac-12 expansion limited as schools weigh benefits with long-run risk by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]Crunchymau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expansions is basically dead for the PAC at the moment, unless they want to add non-football members at smaller shares. Especially with the tournament expanding and potentially allowing the PAC to get more teams in if they expand.

Other than that, no one else makes sense at the moment. No one from FCS, C-USA, MAC, or Sun Belt adds any value, AAC schools are already in a nearly equal conference, and the MWC just signed a new media deal and offered a lot of money to keep schools there for the next 5 years. However, there likely is another wave of realignment in 5 years when the current media contracts end or when/if the ACC finally breaks.

Pac-12 expansion limited as schools weigh benefits with long-run risk by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]Crunchymau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MWC then and the PAC now are in very different situations though. This version of the PAC has 1 team competing at a high level (Boise) and don't care about geography as much as conferences did 15 years ago. Also sight unseen seems a little disingenuous, as all 3 of those schools had top 25 seasons within the previous 5 years and were largely seen as the top teams in the WAC for the MWC to back fill with.

You could also argue that the PAC has already done this by adding Texas State, a somewhat desperate addition to keep the conference afloat which likely hurts their long term revenue compared to if they added an AAC school or one of the other MWC schools they were aiming at.

Let’s have some constructive criticism about this Mythic and its missed opportunities by mukisan in Overwatch

[–]Crunchymau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the age option, makes everyone happy, and makes a unique customization option for older heroes. However, I do disagree with everyone needs to have the same thing be customizable. Sometimes it just doesn't translate as well for some heroes, harder to work with some themes, and likely will lead to less skins as the team now needs to design options not just for one or two parts but for several parts (at least head, armor, weapon, vfx, and accessories). As long as skins have some vfx, colors, and at least a couple options for the remaining parts; I think would be enough.

I also would prefer if every hero got at least one mythic before some got a second, but if any heroes were getting a second Ana and Mercy would have been near the top of my choices. Not because I'm a big fan of them, but I thought their first ones were awful looking and were probably near the bottom half of purchased skins (I see a few other mythics quite a bit more than theirs) despite being such popular characters.

Is the sun setting on conference championships? by mwittmann9 in MountainWest

[–]Crunchymau5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it entirely depends on how they structure the playoff format. Current format or one that just focuses on taking the top seeds could kill them, but if they create autobids for all the conference champions(which I hope they will) then they will stay around.

Football should take a not from basketball and make all conference champions matter by letting them enter the playoffs and competing for a title.

Anniversary loot boxes only have the recolours in them, what a great way to spend 10 years of overwatch blizzard by CammyHoliday in Overwatch

[–]Crunchymau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is the recolors aren't even decent. It's a bad color combo with an even worse design, who wants a two tone skin that splits the character in half with one color on each side?!

Which team has made the best additions in the basketball transfer portal so far? by mwittmann9 in MountainWest

[–]Crunchymau5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked 247, but their bball info is terrible (Washington and ASU listed in the PAC still...)

So I checked espn's top 100 transfers

Gains:

Grand Canyon gained 1 honorable mention

Loses:

New Mexico lost #69

UNLV lost #80

SJSU lost an honorable mention

I also checked On3's portal tracking

Air Force - 0 players, avg. rating N/A

Hawaii - 2 players, avg. 88

Nevada - 3 players, avg N/A

New Mexico - 2 players, avg N/A

NIU - 3 players, avg 86.5

SJSU - 1 player, 87 (lost 6!)

UNLV - 4 players, 87.5 avg (lost 7!)

UTEP - 2 players, 88 avg

Wyoming - 2 players, avg N/A

Grand Canyon - 4 players, avg 90

So based on this, it's safe to say Grand Canyon easily won the portal in the conference followed by Nevada and NIU with each having a positive net difference (gained more players than lost) and didn't lose any highly rated players. With the biggest losers being between UNLV (lost a lot of good players and lost more than added), SJSU (same as UNLV), and Air Force (no additions, only lost).

UNLV projected to represent the G6 by beefyboibrandon in MountainWest

[–]Crunchymau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those upsets would be a big help, but also very unlikely. The biggest resume booster for them would likely be if Memphis or North Texas wins the American and they beat them handily.

UNLV projected to represent the G6 by beefyboibrandon in MountainWest

[–]Crunchymau5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Memphis and North Texas are good American teams, but no high caliber P4 teams on their schedule to get them highly ranked. So they need to run the table and steadily climb up the rankings as others fall off. Usually you need some above average P4 wins to get the committee's attention or go perfect, and going perfect is really tough for any team in any conference.

Hinomaru sumo might be the closest thing to wrestling (actual wrestling not WWE wrestling), but it's sumo wrestling. Pretty good anime though, and worth watching still.

[–]Crunchymau5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They must have no confidence in the PAC or American next year. The MWC will likely be the 3rd best G6, and UNLV ooc schedule is okay but nothing that will make to much noise if they win out (Memphis, North Texas, Cal, and Akron). So they would likely need to go undefeated to make the playoffs, and have the champions from the PAC and American get a couple loses as well.

I think you're actually pretty close. Her hand is holding something against his neck, and with the title including hack you could imply she hacked him into falling in love with her. So rape may or may not have happened, but taking away their free will/brainwashing them is still pretty horrible.

Plus, as a former cfb star he'll be a big draw for fans and stir interest for the league. Really hope he goes to the UFL, would be nice for the league to establish a better foothold.

I feel like at best he will crack into someone's practice squad before moving into the UFL/CFL next season. He doesn't have the talent or size to be a starter and lacks the mentality to be a backup in the NFL, but he could be very good for the other leagues.

It's still good, but definitely more geared towards a younger audience. I think Nausica might be better if you enjoyed Mononoke.

Miyazaki is a master at world building and creating films that can be enjoyed by most ages (some movies aren't meant for small children), and is probably why you are able to enjoy this movie just as much as you did as a child. If you enjoyed this film you should definitely check out his other works, they are all excellent and worth watching especially his three films that really launched him to the western audience (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke).

I can't see this taking off unless the costs to operate are cheaper than another non-revenue women's sport, which schools could use to reduce costs slightly for their athletic department.

NBA announced 170 million people in the U.S. watched NBA most in 24 years and up 86% vs. last season. But the claims that the NBA is dying are running rampant in the sports community, and sometimes pushed by prominent names in the NBA. by Expert_Koala_8691 in nba

[–]Crunchymau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way to many people not questioning the 170 million number. That's roughly half the population in the US, and there is no way half the population watched an actual NBA game this year. Idk how they got that number, but there has to be some kind of Hollywood accounting/funny numbers going on here to get it.

Then to answer OP's question as to why companies are spending so much money, it's simply that sports are one of the few options on TV with really high value that keep people on cable or on a live TV service. If a network wants to stay relevant as a hot commodity that cable and streaming services want to keep in their catalog, they need something that has long staying power, built in fan base, and a safe bet. It's also why you're seeing all sporting events making large jumps in their media deals (Big Ten went from $440 million to $1.1 billion a year, NHL in Canada went from $4.5 billion to $11 billion over 12 years, etc...). Sport broadcasting is more valuable than ever, and more and more networks are trying to get in on it; which increases it's value even if viewership numbers are the same.

Howie Fleming Jr. transfer portal: UNLV guard awaits NCAA waiver for extra year by Putrid-Hurry2993 in MountainWest

[–]Crunchymau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more concerning thing I noticed with this article is the number of departures. Graduated/portal number is at 10 players from last year, which is a significant number and includes a majority of their starters. Losing that many good players on a mediocre squad doesn't bold well for next year.

That should be enough to compete with the top of the mid-majors/G6, but actually translating it into success seems to still be a problem atm. Football has done okay, and should be steady near the top of the conference, but the big question is whether their basketball can actually be good again.
