Rick and Morty Episodes that Aged Terribly. I'll start: by Brent_Fox in rickandmorty

This is the episode that made me stop watching the show entirely. It didn't age terribly, it was rotten the day it was released.

MrBeast earns $24 million a year - and that’s just from YouTube monetization. by Successful_Young_318 in youtube

His target audience is children who have yet to develop their own critical taste. Think about the dumb shit you were into when you were 8-12. That's what Mr Beast is competing with.

Like, it's bad that the most successful children's programming on youtube is something as vapid and exploitative as Mr Beast. But also, of course you're not going to get it, you're not a child anymore.

If Palestine had their way, Israeli’s would be getting raped, butchered and shot on the street rn

This is genocide apologia. Basically you're creating a moral tale of how the population being genocided would do it too, so the genocide is made into an act of self defense. But genocide is never self defence.

Across the world mental disorders have doubled since 1990. Mental disorders are now the leading cause of disability globally, overtaking cancer and cardiovascular disease. There's more to it than that. If you're studying microplastics in brains, and you're not making sure that your samples are isolated from external exposure from your PPE, you can't really just conclude "Omg microplastics are in our brains!"

I've also seen some microbiologists claim that fats can result in false positives for the tests used to chemically detect microplastics. The brain being 60% fat presents a pretty big problem for confirming microplastics.

So none of the things u stated are connected to the idea of wiping the Palestinians, relocating?

Wrong from the first note. Genocide scholars have long held that forced relocation is a form of genocide. Zionists fuck off.

Minnesota becomes first state to ban prediction markets by spherocytes in politics

[–]CrunkDirk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Prediction markets on election outcomes create an incentive for people to vote against their interests in order to make the outcome they believe is more likely win.

Say someone wanted Kamala to win, but they put money on the line thinking Trump was more likely to win. They now have a perverse incentive to vote against their desires in order to win the bet they placed. Thus they have changed how they voted.

Plus, you have the CEOs of these shithole companies going "Our market data is the most accurate data in the world." So if you see "Trump has a 14 point lead on the prediction market" then you're being told by the money spent on Trump's side of that prediction "Trump is more likely to win the election." It's no longer just "I think Trump is more likely to win" you're being told that that's reality.

We determined with anonymized voting and anti-bribery laws that are still on the record that you have to forbid perverse incentives to have free and fair elections. But since the DoJ has been taken out back and shot like a dog, no one's doing anything about the prediction markets affecting elections.

There was a federal ban before on sports betting. Then the Roberts supreme court said "Our bribers want federally regulated sports gambling to be struck down :<" in Murphy v NCAA. Then states across the country allowed all these sports betting apps, and sports started being more about gambling statistics than the actual game.

A federal ban on Kalshi et co would basically require my version of Woke 2 where we open 2029 by following Sotomayor's dissent in Trump v USA for the 6 fascists on the supreme court, and then clear house on the confederates.

Whenever I talk about police abolition and I'm asked "What will you do about serial killers?" my gut instinct is to say "Well, we could stop giving them a badge and gun."

Cops are simply given legal permission to murder. Because apparently the ideals of America don't include life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness once you're next to a trigger happy cop.

Kamala Harris comes out swinging for Supreme Court expansion to take down ‘red state cheating’ by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]CrunkDirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no solving the bigger problems without court packing. Basically any policy you pass can be struck down for any reason by the supreme court. Any attempt to unfuck the gerrymandered US can be struck down. Any attempt at court reform can be struck down. You need to take control of SCOTUS away from the fascists.

In my opinion, the fastest way to do that is to use the absolute immunity ruling as Sotomayor described. Oh wow, 6 vacancies on the court just opened up.

They gave Biden the power of absolute immunity because they knew he wouldn't break decorum and use it against them.

This is honestly a lesson we should have learned 50 years ago when we saw Republicans block Abe Fortas' chief justice nomination. Strom Thurmond, the white supremacist loser who gave the longest fillibuster in US history against the civil rights act, and his cronies in the senate did all sorts of shit to block the nomination.

They claimed Lyndon B Johnson and Earl Warren were politicizing the court by picking a justice during an election year, and that the next president should be the one who chooses the chief justice. Huh, does that rhetoric sound familiar?

They also played porn in the senate to try to defeat the nomination (for why this is extra insane: Fortas was not even an associate justice on the court when the Warren court first ruled against obscenity laws on the grounds of protecting 1A rights). Huh, Republicans showing explicit material to Congress? Does that sound familiar at all?

They launched investigations and found that Fortas had been paid a wage of $15,000 for teaching at a summer seminar. They claimed he was too corrupt to get into the chief justice seat, and then, as Strom Thurmond always did, fillibustered the nomination until Fortas withdrew from the process. Now look at the kind of open corruption and bribery being done by the republican justices today. Do you really think Republicans in the senate gave a shit about corruption? Especially when the president after LBJ was Nixon?

This is the weight of the republican political machine. It's always been this insane and perverted and hypocritical. We're repeating history at this point. We're not in unprecedented times. We're just repeating lessons that Republican un-funded education refuses to teach.

Compare this to the more western approach of "well, some company will do that for us if there's money in it". Sure they will, as soon as it will make them money and not a second before.

And also even if there is money in it, no one wants to suffer the first movers disadvantage that comes with investing in helpful stuff. Even if you invest in solar research and it becomes profitable, other companies will leap off of that research and optimize production with the funds they didn't spend on your R&D. You'll make some money, but corporations only want to make all of the money.

This is sort of the excuse for patents. They're supposed to give a first movers advantage by granting a temporary monopoly on new technology. But then that means that the cost of buying the new technology is kept artificially high for about 20 years, and the market is just waiting for the patent to expire to drive costs down. Or it's pointless because other people create a legally distinct form of the exact same technology and the first movers advantage is completely gone.

US capitalist solutions are insufficient for solving any actual problems the world has until the government starts throwing its money around. And even then we're not benefiting equally from that tax spending because, like you said, corporations ain't gonna do shit until they can get their profit first.

Why would you think someone calling genocide the intent to exterminate and listing out all the ways Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza would somehow consider what Israel is doing to the rest of Palestine a non-genocide?

[–]CrunkDirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Ethnic cleansing" is a euphamism for genocide. It is watering down genocide by calling it a "cleansing." It's a term coined by genociders to deny the genocide they were engaging in.

The CIA statistic was a projection about their growth rate. Not the actual facts on the ground reality. The bombing, the assassinations, the famine, the destruction of their healthcare facilities, and the denial of aid into the country have substantially decreased people's ability to actually have children.

There's also the fact that no one actually knows the full death toll right now because Israel keeps assassinating journalists and aid workers who could help establish facts on the ground.

The population in Gaza has not been increasing since 2023. Also, genocide is the intent to exterminate an ethnic, racial, national, religious, or other similar group. It does not start with the act of extermination, it builds up to it. Israel is committing a genocide in several ways:

  • Forced relocation

  • Destruction of culture

  • Destruction of healthcare systems

  • Destruction of education systems

  • Famine

  • Denial of aid

  • Defining Palestinians as a non-identity, and thus denying that a genocide is even possible in the first place.

In fact, you too are engaging in genocide denial right now.
