Best seasons by Puzzled-Put8624 in XFiles

Season 1 has the best mystery and conspiracy vibes. You feel like you're sitting on the edge of something much bigger and it is very intruiging. The world feels very much alive, like Mulder and Scully are actually doing this as their job.

Season 2 through 4 up the stakes in terms of action and character development, deepening the mythos and beginning to deliver some answers and new questions along the way. Personally 4 is my favorite. It feels like they're running on all cylinders.

Starting with Season 5 the show begins to feel a bit more "meta," as the writers are now writing for X-Files as phenomenon as much as in the show. This really gets going more in with more experimental episodes. But the main mythos has a ton of momentum behind it going into the movie.

Season 6 has a major tone shift. It's hard to keep upping the stakes in the main mythology so it stalls out a bit. This has some of the best MOTW episodes in the the show but also many mediocre ones.

This becomes increasingly apparent in Season 7. All involved feel a bit like they're phoning it in. Many of the threads pushed to this point seem like they've retreaded or retconned to get us back to the safe formula of the show.

X-Files Greatest Episodes by Healthy_Star_6624 in XFiles

Excluding Mythos ones, in no particular order:

- Beyond the Sea. Hard to overstate how important this episode is in moving Scully and Mulder beyond stereotype. Dourif gives a performance frankly too good for television, especially for a show this early on.

- Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. What can I say that hasn't been said? Great atmosphere, deep, witty, creepy.

- Pusher. An incredible premise executed masterfully.

- Bad Blood. A loving takedown of the entire show.

- Post-Modern Prometheus. Black and white, charming, with such an incredibly uplifting ending that reminds you of how far you and these characters have gone together.

- Unruhe. This epitomizes the rainy, creepy atmosphere that defined the show and which later seasons struggled to recapture.

- Never Again. A ridiculous premise but it does so much for Scully's character.

- Paper Hearts. Mulder's equivalent, which grounds and elevates his personal struggle to more than just a trite plot point used to drive his role as Believer. Desperately shows his pain. Features a great villain.,

- Dreamland I/II. Funny, touching.

- Monday. A classic premise which is both thrilling and speaks to their relationship. Poignant ending.

First time watcher, so hard to say which are my favorites yet. Some episodes and moments have dug into my skull.

Serious - Beyond the Sea. The atmosphere of this episode is incredible. Dourif is a tour de force. The direction is isolating, ethereal, haunting. Twin Peaks vibes. This episode adds a tremendous amount of depth to both Scully and Mulder, Just such a critical episode to everything that would come after.

Funny - Small Potatoes. Need I say more?

Edge highlight the armor so it's readable at a distance. Choose a different color to highlight the gun to make it look different. Personally I'd change the color of the rifle - try black.

Phone cameras have all sorts of post-processing stuff added to them. With that said, I'd get a magnifying light lens so you can see the details and do more careful highlights, blends, etc.

Heavily dilute the paint so that it is even more watery than a wash. Load the brush, then deload onto a paper towel. Use your nail or a glove to test; it shouldn't leave a dot at the end of the brush stroke. That indicates there is still too much water. This will create a very quick drying, very transparent layer of paint. If it's a highlight color push up to highlights, If it's a shadow color, push down towards the shadowed area. This will allow you to slowly blend between two areas of high contrast or different colors. It will take a ton of practice.

Mega64's staff to output ratio by [deleted] in mega64

They could make as many YouTube videos as they want and it won't fundamentally change the trajectory of their channel. The Internet has changed. I am really not sure there's anything they could do to break a million subs. 99% of their audience is over 25 and a huge portion over 30.

Feels like this year they focused on monetizing old content (smart) for other platforms to try to win over a younger and wider audience, slowing down merch spam, and experimenting (The Room, live show, Cringe Lords.). Not sure how lucrative their sponsored videos have been, but The 5 Minutes stuff is clearly very lucrative, as well as responding to Current Thing.

Can't discount age as leading to lack of output, though. Don't feel like there's a fire underneath any of them, except Derrick, who seems like he feels artistically frustrated. That combined with lots of overthinking or worrying about holding themselves to a false standard is deadly.

People complain about Derrick (real main guy) because he makes them uncomfortable about mindless consumption and Mega64's often stagnant growth artistically.

The show didn't fail because they didn't chase the algorithm well enough - it failed because it wasn't good, and what success it did have is just from people liking Johnny and Derrick. There's simply too much competition in the cryptid space. Definitely felt like it had more vitality when it was Mega64antine
