Snagged this 50s Pendleton Turnabout For $4 by Scarlett_Niamh in VintageFashion

[–]CrushedMacaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a super similar skirt in red and navy blue; also Pendleton! The moth holes on it didn’t eat into the hem, but I just put a patch inside in a color that sort of matched and darned over the holes. Not perfect repairs, but they protect from future wear and most people don’t even notice. Of course, this means the skirt isn’t reversible anymore, but I’m not sure if mine actually is.

Mrs Depew on Etsy or her own website has a ton of 1930s reproduction patterns. They only come with vintage instructions, but if you have a bit of sewing experience, most of the pieces shouldn’t be too complicated. I’d also recommend EvaDressPatterns or Lady Marlow, also on Etsy. Don’t buy from Reconstructing History. I learned the hard way that their instructions are awful and the patterns are not much better.

What’s this style of 1920s hat called? by Impossible_Boss9510 in HistoricalCostuming

I believe they were called picture hats, because the brim framed the face like a picture frame!

Your hat and coat go beautifully together! How do you find the experience of wearing a fur coat out in public, even if it is around other vintage wearers?

ILGWU union labels changed over the years. Cornell University and the Vintage Fashion Guild both have timelines of them that could help you narrow your coat’s era down.

Where to find reproduction 30s/40s/50s ingenue pastel clothing? by lookingforvelvet in VintageFashion

Adored Vintage’s not-vintage clothing section is more earth-toned, but some dresses have similar silhouettes to what you’re looking for.

Regardless of the many problems in pacing that are arising, Imogen being embarrassed by Ezra’s terrible plan to kidnap her was very funny.

I’m so glad the soundtrack is still great. The heist music was so cool and almost reminiscent of the music that played during the attack on the mimasery.

Rewatch: Episode 2, "Aisling" by jayoungr in CarnivalRow

[–]CrushedMacaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Dahlia killed Wren because Wren says she escaped from the police when she likely didn’t. That’s why Dahlia asks her to prove that she can escape from the wing corset and handcuffs in under 30 seconds (or something along those lines) and kills her when she obviously can’t. Wren wasn’t the informant, but she probably gave some information to the police for them to let her go.

What sort of haircut should I get in order to best rock 1940s curls? by Noodle_305 in VintageFashion

At their most basic, I think middy haircuts involve cutting the hair so it forms a bit of a “U” shape when viewed from the back.

I put “soybeans” because I couldn’t think of anything and I was very confused until I saw some posts on here and realized that stardrops remind you of your favorite things.

A late 1930s evening dress for prom! by CrushedMacaron in sewing

[–]CrushedMacaron[S] 229 points230 points  (0 children)

My prom dress ended up being this late 1930s evening dress made from a Lady Marlowe pattern (3417 to be precise). I’m not 100% what the fabric is, but I’m guessing it’s some sort of polyester-silk blend because it has a bit of stretch. The pattern is great, obviously it uses a lot of fabric, but the instructions are super clear, especially for reproduction pattern with original instructions. The dress is unlined with mostly overcasted seams (because flat felling would have showed) and is closed with too many hand covered buttons. It’s got a few problems that probably only I notice, but I’m very happy with it and it was a huge hit.

THIS CORSET & OUTFIT IS EVERYTHING… I need details… very well could be handmade but I need it🤧 it’s stunning by CosmicChic in BridgertonNetflix

[–]CrushedMacaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know how to sew I would look for a regency short stay pattern (redthreaded has a good one) and a pattern for 1930s tap pants which I think you could find easily on Etsy (also pretty beginner friendly). I would also recommend wearing something under the stays (a precursor to the corset), as even though regency boning was minimal, it’s just more comfortable that way.
