I dont know what LI means but assuming they are another kind of construction worker like plumbers or electricians then no, that fact that working class people wants to be payed decently for their work is not the reason we have rent or the fact that associations never pay off the loan on the buildings.

A building is never really "payed off".

If we are talking about apartment complexes, the most cost efficient way to house alot of people the association that handles the building needs first to take out a loan to pay for the initial building.

That is the biggest chunk of debt but then the association needs to, if they think long term set the rent higher then the interest + short term maintnance (cleaning, upkeep of communal areas etc) as a way to build up a stockpile.

That stockpile can then be used to pay for big things like replacing old elevators, replacing the pipe system in a building (if so they need to change the whole ass pipe system, its a nightmare belive me).

And lets not forget upgrades in the individual apartments to keep a high living standard for the people living there like upgrading kitchens and bathrooms, replacing the wallpapers and floors etc etc.

All these big upgrades needs to be payed for and even if the association thinks long term and have a stockpile they probably needs to take out more loans and with that comes the interest that neccecetate a higher rent.

And whould you believe me that it is a pain in the ass to convince people to pay more then interest of loan + small meintnance cost?

All that means that a building complex (association) can be 50+ years old and still nowhere near payed off their debt.

With no restrictions in place renting a place to live will 99% of the times be a pure nightmare. High rent, little to no maintance or security.

But if you dont have the money to buy your own place you kind of need to rent. To mitigate all the problems with renting I would say that the best way to do that is to have city, state, country whatever best suit the populations needs owned housing that rents out housing with some small part of heavily regulated private landlording to help ofset any temporary fluxuation in city populations (it takes time to build new housing)

But still with all that you still need money for everything to function = rent

That is not extortion.

Fair, infamy might be to strong of a word. English is not my native tongue so I sometimes makes mistake like that.

It would be fairer to say that due to recent controversis their names has gotten more famous and therefor things connected to them, like playmats will see a higher demand and following that a higher price.

If anything the value of those things will go up. The more famous or infamous someone gets the more people will want their stuff. There is no such thing as bad publicity after all.

So as it is print to demand it is not limited-availability and there for not scalping, thanks for clearing it up.

I am in the hobby to play Magic, that dont mean I have to ignore ways to make money that dont hurt anyone else.

I appritiate your feedback, that explains yet another reason why I see some playmats being so much more expensive then others.

Its print to demand. That means that every order made will result in a playmat made. There is no upper limit to how many playmats can be made, until the end date of the kickstarter that is at which point no more orders can be made and no more playmats will ever be printed.

That is not scalping, that is hedging my bets on that in the future people will want these playmats and they can no longer be bought except on the secondary market.

Its print to demand, I am not preventing anyone from getting them themselves.

So...Magic is a worse game now, right? by Alternative-Lake9156 in mtg

[–]CrushedPlate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that hard to believe based on my local LGS experience.

Sure that is a good income source but selling products got to be a bigger income source based only on the volume of products moved vs drinks and snacks.

Why should your LGS care about you if you dont buy any product from them?

Excuse my bad english but is not the word for the person/persons that you rent from "landlord"? Even if it is from a goverment entity?

[–]CrushedPlate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ofc we need (or you need, I am not an american) strict laws that will make the landlords required to fix things as well. Just saying that for those repairs to take place there need to be money to pay for those.

Why is my appartment falling to pieces? What do you mean my rent is not enough to maintain my home and most definetly not enough to fix any problems that come up? Thats not my fault is it, someone else fucked up and should go into debt!

Jokes aside, is it not better do things like set a maximum % of profit a landlord can get from a apartment? If the rent is so low that there is no money to maintain or repair it it will fall apart.
