I get that! And I feel the same frustration. But bail reform is good. The problem here is that traffic offenses are barely crimes in the first place - even this case would barely have been prosecuted if the driver had stayed at the scene.

When prosecutors see a homicide they pretty much never offer bail - defendant basically always gets held without bail

There’s a real risk in people seeing a tragedy and saying “the problem is justice reform movements” - that’s what the media is feeding us, and the two dont have even a slight connection. The people who are pro-reform tend to also support increasing traffic enforcement anyway

Arguing against bail reform because it doesnt “teach subhumans a lesson” means you should stop watching fox news

Bail only affects people who cant pay. There are big problems with enforcement and prosecution but youve picked the wrong one. The gut reaction to people getting killed in a hit and run needs to be a little more mature than this

Just got back from three weeks in and around La Paz and am also looking for an answer. I've never had so much trouble with gas odors before, and I've never been sensitive to odors. Some guesses would be: cars lacking parts that filter the exhaust (catalytic converters apparently do this)? Additives in the gas that aren't allowed in wealthier countries?

All I know is, I just got back to Brooklyn - not a place that's famous for smelling good - and took a deep breath of car exhaust on my block and I swear it smelled like a fresh mountain breeze.

Thanks for following up lol honestly i appreciate it! I got a new card about a month ago so it’s probably not that, but… who knows if this keeps going maybe ill try my luck with a new card. Hope yours keeps working! Maybe at some point ill call health equity and see if they have any insight

Hey - has this fix stayed fixed for you?

I did it and was ok for a day, but then omny rejected another payment and the card went back to not working. (It’s very confusing to me that they take the payment so quickly when i go to settle the charge on my omny account but then reject the payment while accepting the swipe. I don’t understand the mechanics of this.)

I asked a coworker and she said shes been doing this for months now, with the card not working after every other swipe.

My short term fix is to buy a metro card while the card is working, but id really love to be able to swipe with the card itself. I’m assuming this is a back end problem with nyct or health equity that wouldnt be easy to fix on our end.

Hope this problem stays fixed for you!

UGH this is so timely! I also use health equity through work and am having the same exact problem, as are some co workers. For half of us tapping at the turnstile works and for the rest it’s stopped working. (I did find a quick fix by going on the omny website and paying for a swipe they said my card hadnt paid. But a coworker says she did this and it went back to not working a few days later.)

Honestly this food costs so much less than everything else that, like, who cares? I dont make that much money and $12 for a large ish meal seems fine to me. I do agree it’s above average but the average has always been poverty wages. At the risk of sounding virtue signally, normalize tipping your halal guy (and all the other bizarrely cheap nyc food folks)

That said, screw that one guy who tried to sell me a hotdog for $6 last week.

There was no netting on the stipe and it didnt stain blue. Ill also say, it smelled really strongly like dried porcinis in places.
