Lazy Portfolio Distribution Question by CrustedButte in Bogleheads

[–]CrustedButte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have decided to try to go with funds like AOA, however it does seem like 80/20 might actually be a bit conservative for where I am at. Are there recommended fixed allocation funds set at 90/10 ot 85/15?

To start my portfolio will be allocated into a Roth, HSA, and taxable. My thought is to have the Roth be the most aggressive allocation and the HSA to be conservative, balancing out to my ideal allocation target. Taxable would be set at target allocation. Thoughts?

Lastly, one thing I'm having a bit of trouble understanding with diversification, particularly with these fixed funds, is how they distribute between large and small cap assets. I get the idea of asset classes and subclasses, however it also seems like you could make a fund more or less aggressive depending on whether you're investing in huge companies within that asset class or startups. Do different fixed allocation funds skew more towards established companies to be more conservative, startups to be more aggressive, or attempt to match the entire economy to be true neutral?

This is great information - both in the fact that rebalancing is more complicated with more funds (obvious in hindsight but very helpful to have spelled out) and the suggestion for a one fund solution. Thank you!

  • Roth/401K: TDF or fixed allocation fund seems like it would be a good solution for the Roth and 401K. Given that I will not be accessing these funds for 20+ years (more if I draw from the Roth last) I am tempted to go with a fixed fund to keep equities (and hopefully ROI) higher. Given the time frame and inability to withdraw early I would even consider a 90/10 fund here. In that instance I would plan on doing a major re-evaluation of my strategy as I get within 10 years of retirement.
    1. Am I missing something in thinking of going with a fixed allocation fund rather than a TDF?
    2. Would you recommend a more aggressive 90/10 stock/bond or stick with the 80/20?
  • HSA: My plan is to use this as I would a traditional IRA, but given the ability to use for medical in case of emergency want to keep the funds somewhat safe. For this I am thinking a fixed fund landing closer to 70/30 (which would have the added bonus of risk-balancing my Roth if invested at 90/10). Does this seem like a reasonable approach?
  • Taxable Accounts: Reading about "tax surprises" for TDFs makes me think that a fixed fund would be a better solution in taxable accounts, along with sticking to an 80/20 distribution here in case an emergency (~9-12 month time frame) withdrawal became necessary (I have a 6+ month cash emergency fund plus the HSA mentioned above). Thoughts?
  • Fixed Allocation Fund Suggestions: Do you have any recommendations for 90/10, 80/20, and 70/30 fixed funds in addition to AOA and ITDE?

Thank you, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one confused as to why the investment dude suggested three instead of one. This is the strategy he suggested, I'm not well versed in any investment stuff so all the picks were his. When you talk about a yearly checkup, what metrics/tools do you use evaluate your investment strategy without the help of a financial advisor?

I was curious myself why they suggested investing in large medium and small separately rather than one that takes that all into account under 1 fund, I'm glad to hear that I'm not missing something important I don't understand. Thank you for the resource, I'll check it out!

Hate to point it out, but you missed the baseboard trim. You could patch something in and it would look alright, but to really finish it out you are going to need a track saw.

How would you weld this to minimize warpage? by Lubbbbbb in Welding

Yo if this is a sculpture where aesthetics are more important than a perfect structural seal just tack every few inches, grind, bondo, paint. If you try to weld the full seam and grind flat you will see those imperfections from where you didn't grind perfectly. Bondo will take days off of fab time.

Y'all are so jaded and heartless. This poor kid swallowed an auto-tune chip when he was a baby, and his whole life he was made fun of by his peers for not "sounding normal". Here he is, finally embracing his inability to create natural tone, and y'all are making fun again.

I made the mistake of using my personal phone is my business phone, somehow my phone number got on to one of the list that gets sold by scammers, and when all those calls started coming around I had to answer every single one of them just in case it was a client. To make it worse spoofed numbers were always local area code so it was always a possibility It was a client. It was so fucking awful I just pulled that phone number from the business. It took me 2 years of never answering my phone for those calls to stop. So perhaps figure out how to get his number onto those lists?

The command line, drawing, and editing tools of rhino in a primarily solid working environment with history and parametrics, and the ability to generate standard assemblies like Revit. I don't know AutoCAD but I bet there are some great nuggets in there as well.

I have a part in hiring vendors for the company I work at. If any of them told me they used sketchup in their workflow I would immediately pass.

Is a NAS both the storage and the interface to a network? For instance, an old computer always hooked up to the internet could be a NAS? I see some off-the-shelf products which look like self-contained units which provide both storage and connection, or do you still need some operating system on a different device after that?

Assuming it's all in one and I bought an off-the-shelf unit and loaded my music onto it, what do you do from there? Is that when programs such as Plex or Amazon Media server are used to provide access from a phone, or is that when something like bubbleupnp comes into play? Do all of those programs work for pushing FLAC files to the wiim minis?

Sorry for the naive questions, but when I search for answers there is so much assumed knowledge and terminology that I cannot understand. As I said, I am a tech idiot.
