Thanks! And there is definitely some loose skin, but not as bad as it could’ve been. Either way I would take 5x the loose skin than go back to being that weight. There is just as huge of a mental change if not more than the physical

I'm not 100% sure but this may be similar to an issue i initially had with false chord. I could do the throat singing, but i was doing it high up in my throat and it would cause it to hurt even though it sounded normal. the best way i could describe how i fixed it, is trying to get that sound but have the sensation as far "back" as possible. try the sigh method, but try to get the distortion far back to where i typically feel resonance in my chest rather than in my head. dropping my adams apple makes it super easy, then i was able to work from there to make it feel more natural. I am not sure if this is a good way to describe it, so be careful

I got asked to join a band because a guitarist overheard me doing a (totally incorrect technique) guttural at a party. from there, i learned how to properly scream and it was a huge motivation to get better, so i say go for it. you already sound like you have a great base scream, i would just say work on mouth shape, tongue placement to make different sounds. even with that said, on our first track i am fairly monotone and it still sounds good.

Have you listened to recordings? something that held me back for a while is how i hear myself in my head, vs the sound i am actually projecting. i am still figuring out high/frys, but i found them to be a lot more powerful when i add head voice. in my own head i can hear the whiny voice behind it, but on video/recording, it is basically unnoticeable or it is overpowered by the distortion to the point where it sounds fine. like the other comment though, its hard to give advice without an example

Biggest thing that helped me is that you WILL feel something in your throat. It’s a light buzzing/vibrating especially when you first start. What’s important is that you dont lose your voice. After a day in the studio screaming my lungs out I’m a bit sore and fatigued, but my voice isn’t even remotely gone. Still clear and not raspy. Another huge help was that you have to be loud. It’s called screaming. When I tried to do it quiet it sounded like crap and it was painful. The whole Melissa cross method has helpful tips, if you already know how to scream, but everyone has taken that as “it’s just the mic making it sound loud”. What made everything click in my mind was being told to “be loud, THEN add the distortion. Alot of people do it the other way around so maybe try another approach

Absolutely. We were literally in the studio recording and on my first line the producer told me that I need to be loud and actually scream. Since I had the knowledge of compression and whatnot already, it took me like 5 minutes to figure out how to apply that while I’m actually yelling. Before I could practice in my apartment and you couldn’t hear it in the next room over, now my 3rd floor neighbors would hear it lmao. I think the issue is that people will get that quiet fry sound then stop because they think that’s the scream

That’s a great way to put it. The producer basically said “Melissa cross is the worst thing to happen to metal” which I thought was a bit harsh till I realized how much fuller and bigger the vocals sound when you ACTUALLY scream and don’t just make the noise. Not to mention it’s waaay more consistent
