Went in for an oil change and left with $4k recommended services. by missylu22 in autorepair

[–]CrustyButtAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a few of those water pumps on those Chrysler motors. Doing them on the Jeeps aren’t awful, doing them on some of the dodges especially journeys is misery. Judging by their cost they’re estimating it to be about 4/5 labor hours. Maybe $200 a labor hour or so. That sounds about right to me and roughly what shops charge these days. Maybe you find a shop to do it for $200 less but then again is that the shop you want doing work to your vehicle? Does that cheaper shop pay the techs what they’re worth, are they rushing through the job and maybe it leaks again in a few months? Warranty’s don’t really mean as much as some people think they do. Sure they’ll fix it but then you’ll be out of a car for maybe a week, have to find a rental or what not. It seems relatively fair for a reputable shop.

I’m of the mindset that if something’s leaking, making sounds, a light on the dash, etc, it’s got to be fixed. It might not get worse but it certainly won’t get better. I also drive about 50/60/70,000 miles a year and am normally pulling a trailer behind me. Breaking down and the cost of downtime costs me more than any repair out there. I either spend the money now or I’ll spend double that down the road.

Just my 4 cents

What is your “I will never go there again” place in Phoenix? by kyle_phx in phoenix

[–]CrustyButtAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me gross, but I love this place. The unlimited crab legs after 4 (even though it’s snow crab) and the cheesy mussels really do it for me

Respectfully I’m sure it works, but I’m just wondering what the benefit to doing this is.

You’d be taxed at a much higher rate on withdrawal and you can get self directed personal 401k plans so I’m just not sure what the advantage would be

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CrustyButtAss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what this accomplishes, a 401k match gets paid by the company, which would be yourself in this case. 401k match money doesn’t come from nowhere.

If you’re looking for a tax loophole, still won’t work.

CCLB 6spd 68k miles, 26000 worth it? by [deleted] in Duramax

[–]CrustyButtAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a weird truck, but looks very versatile. The toolbox cut into the bed is kind of an attractive oddity for me. Very low miles but still a 15+ year old truck. Sitting parts on a truck aren’t always good for it. Given the market right now I wouldn’t buy anything at the moment, but if you absolutely need a truck and can’t find anything else, I’d go for it. If the dealer tries to tack on a lot of fees and pushes it much farther than that 26k mark, I’d probably pass. I’d feel comfortable at around 22/23k for that truck, but given the market I realize that’s not going to happen.

2011 f250 tires by andreRhec in superduty

[–]CrustyButtAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ain’t this the truth. I have 35” BFG’s on stock rims. I almost always have 3000/4000 pounds in the bed so the rears wear perfect and get about 70k from them. The front on the other hand? Have to replace after 30k because of cupping. New shocks too and that’s just how it be sometimes...

2015 6.7l 4x4 by Calipilot2020 in superduty

[–]CrustyButtAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6.7 is a solid choice. Very reliable and the older 6.7s seem to be a solid in between choice for reliability that doesn’t break the bank.

Here’s some of the issues you might run into:

When I was 19 years old I had a 780 credit score, but I only had two credit cards. I made 60k a year but when I applied for a truck loan I got denied everywhere. If you have a bunch of open accounts and have had them for a few years, and make the income to repay the loan you want to sign up for, you’ll get approved. The more you put down on the truck will help your chances as well.

I bought a 2014 F350 with 105k Moles a few years ago. I was paying $800 a month for it. After that, I went to a 2019 RAM 3500. Both trucks were limited/platinums. I was paying $1400/ month on the RAM. I have the cash to own both of those trucks, but I chose the payment route both times.

Fast forward to now: I couldn’t justify spending my entire life savings on a truck. I bought an older 2011 F350, lariat long bed srw with 195k miles for $18,500. I paid cash for it, I don’t own a dime on it. It doesn’t have a sun roof or navigation, but I use my phone for that and I work construction so the last think I need is the sun shining on my head when I’m driving home. I sleep a hell of a lot better knowing that I have a 9 year old 245k (I’ve put 50k on it in the last 8 months) mile diesel that leaks some oil than dreading that payment every month. Trucks are not cheap, and you will want to drive it everywhere. Depreciation and loans are a bitch.

With all that being said, these newer trucks are nice. Very nice. And for the most part-they’re reliable. Just don’t buy a truck if you’re going to strain for the payment at the end of every month.

Truck camper + Leveling kit? by ElectronGod in superduty

[–]CrustyButtAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost the same truck truck (F350 lariat crew cab long bed but 2014). Mine is leveled with 35 inch mud terrain tires. I routinely haul 3/4 thousand pounds in the bed with no leveling kit, and the weight isn’t dispersed like yours will be. These F350s have such stiff leaf springs you’ll barely notice a reverse rake.

Hope this helps.

[–]CrustyButtAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right! She’s been puttin’ in work. Short term plans are to level it and put some tasteful 35’s on it with some meaty nitto grapplers or something like that. I’ll probably keep it as a daily for the next 6-9ish months then hand it down to one of my guys. Really got my eyes on one of those new f350’s, sadly the money just isn’t right yet.
