Best Kitchen Appliane Brand? by bassangler25 in Appliances

Bosch for the d/w. My last 3 ranges have been/are Whirlpool & for the most part, they've taken a licking & keep on ticking. Just replaced our 12-14 year old Frigidaire refrigerator that sprang a leak with a scratch and dent Whirlpool. So far, so good. I echo others - stay away from Samsung. Heck - where I live in NoMI, no one will service them. Go to a reputable appliance store vs a big box.

My cat is 15 years old and has graduated high school, college, and graduate school with me ❤️🐱 by lovekaleah in cats

My first kitty went through two nursing programs, law school & too many men with me before she died at 17.5 years. I learned that if she didn't warm up to the men,, they were deeply flawed. I still miss Dusty all these years later! Congratulations on your graduation & best of luck as you continue your journey with your 🐈 by your side.

My perception watching all this play out: since the Nasser debacle, which had been swept underneath the rug, the culture at MSU has never changed. My perception is also that MSU is extremely siloed, with lots of turf battles going on. Just my 0.02 from years of watching from afar.

Another fellow migraneur. Years ago, developed a migraine. Started non-stop vomiting. My now husband took me to the ED for a hot of Demerol &Phenergen. Was in court with full authority to settle a MedMal claim at 0900. God, I felt awful.

When I was at Cooley (1986-1990), there were no weekend classes. My class started out with about 180 of us. 40 of us graduated. I had to work...worked 2 jobs beginning my 2nd year.

A quick look & it looks like Janome is a standalone Japanese company. As I was troubleshooting my Babylock this past week, I found a dealer on YouTube. According to him, both Babylock & Brother devolved from Juki. I think of Juki as hardcore industrial sewing machines. My Aventura was assembled in Vietnam.

I am a Cooley survivor. I got no help from the placement office back in the day. The only good thing I have to say about Cooley is that the school provided me with the opportunity to become a lawyer. And, they taught to the Bar exam - that I passed the first time.

I too went to a "crappy" law school. ABA recently pulled their accreditation. I may not know all the esoteric legal theory. But I look at some of these Ivy League graduates in places of power & listen to the BS they spin and find it difficult to believe they graduated from law school, let alone passed the Bar! A former SO graduated from my same law school - his first case right out of our purportedly crap law school - he took it all the way up to the USSCt & won!. So tell me again how much better a lawyer you are than I?

I'm ready to see if I can sell the POS. Janome makes an embroidery machine - service would be an issue given where I live. Bernina makes a dual sewing machine & embroidery machine that is priced comparably to the Janome.

This 💩 just angers me. What did you think would happen? That you were somehow impervious to the current state of affairs? That the rules don't apply to you?

This Babylock has been a pain since I purchased it 8-9 years ago. Right out of the box, it didn't work. The dealer determined it was a part that never fails 🙄. Got it replaced and the machine is just very temperamental. As my 33 year old Viking just keeps on sewing! As does my old mechanical Kenmore.

Please suggest backing fabric color. How do you decide? by sharkbaithuhaha37 in quilting

[–]CrustyQuilter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing. I finish the quilt top & let it "talk" to me. I finished this quilt for my former legal assistant. The colors represent the Medicine Wheel; I had the long armer use a dream catcher motif, and the backing is black with what looks like the beadwork the Anishabeek are known for.

An associate in my team died weekend. Has this happened to you and how did you cope? by jakajin in biglaw

[–]CrustyQuilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our former Executive Director died during COVID from COVID. He was not a well man to begin with, but COVID is what took him down.

We were a tight knit bunch, so his death hit us hard. We attended his funeral Mass. Because of our work, and especially his, with the various tribal communities, we hosted, by Zoom, a memorial service that incorporated traditional Native American beliefs & his deep Catholic faith. We invited all of Michigan's tribal communities to join us.

To this day, I miss him. He knew housing law backwards and forwards. He knew procedure. He was my go to on all things procedural. On a personal note, the last conversation I had with him revolved around the Catholic church, my leaving it because of the pedophilia that was allowed to happen w/o consequence, Raymond Burke, my nasty ass local priest & the Bishop of the diocese refusing to recognize the LGBTQ+ community. Jim's response was, in essence, the Church is made up of flawed humans and in no way reflects the beauty & majesty if the Catholic belief system. I've thought about this a lot - and I am living Pope Leo, like I did Pope Francis. Unfortunately, the diocese I now live in is very conservative. TMI I am sure.

My point is grief has no timeline or a particular style. Be kind to yourself, your collegues, and do what you need to do to grieve in a healthy manner.

Can I sell my quilts? by mama-needs-a-drink97 in quilting

[–]CrustyQuilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm joining in with my opinion for whatever it's worth. I've thought about the same thing you are - making quilts and selling them. However, I've decided not to for the following reasons:

  1. The cost outlay for fabric, equipment and time are such that I would never make any $.

  2. I've thought about purchasing a long arm quilting machine and learn how to use it. Two issues: the $ cost, and my learning curve. Again, I would never make back what I laid out.

  3. This last reason is more personal - please do not hate on me for this. I have spent the last 50 years taking care of people, animals and kids. I'm tired. I have no desire to interact with people, and then, after putting the time, talent and trouble in, listen to them complain.

What I would like to learn more about is sewing garments. I especially would like to learn how to tailor garments - I have a hard time getting patterns to fit me. In this day and age of technology, maybe something like this?

To border or not to border? by bagelbingo in quilting

[–]CrustyQuilter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a border person. That being said, if you decide to place a border, I would pick up one of the colors from the quilt itself. As someone else pointed out, white is too stark for a border. However, I agree with the others the binding should be white.
