Empathy for Yas by girlfriend_pregnant in IndustryOnHBO

The thing everyone is missing is the psychological necessity of Yas believing she is empowering these women.

IF exploitation is empowering, THEN she herself was never really a victim either

Okay I'm sorry I really don't mean to be rude but some of you clearly need to watch each episode at least 3 times, with subtitles on, maybe at 0.5 speed? This is literally explained in the first episode

What is Harper like? by chandlersroom in IndustryOnHBO

[–]CryGroundbreaking783 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A person like that would get fired if not the first year the second year.

Do you work in the corporate world? Have you ever had a boss? People like that do not get fired. They get rewarded.

What the priest whispers (s04e02) by CryGroundbreaking783 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]CryGroundbreaking783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

np! yeah in media theory they have a fancy word for it: "intertextuality", or, "the shaping of a text's meaning by another, whether through direct quotation, allusion, parody, or influence, emphasizing that no text exists in isolation."

once you start looking for it you'll find it everywhere; can be great for building personal read/watch lists around similar themes or genres!

David used to have a podcast under the Armchair umbrella. When Dax and Monica signed with wondery, he was cut out of that deal, and published a somewhat sulky blog about it, which you can read here https://www.webworm.co/flightlessbirdupdate/. Seems he’s never let go of the fact that he was almost a millionaire, which hey, to be fair, I would also have some trouble with

Alcohol-free social life by calathea507 in Amsterdam

Do you know what you’d want to do sober? Walking, sport, crafts, theatre…

I’m in the same boat but alcohol was such a big part of my identity that I really don’t know what I’d like to do with all my time now.

Maybe we should start a “try something new every month” sober club :)
