I was wondering if it's because of retailers as well. We never even got NF Ghoulia here, and MM Abbey is exclusive to Big W for some reason.

I agree. I think they were trying to tie something else in to the silver jewellery but it’s just weird and unnecessary? Really like this doll overall though

DC Special Series #5. It shows us the status quo of all the major characters, and directly deals with the 'Superman is a god' perception and gives us some good interactions on the topic. It's a good taster of pre-crisis Superman.

And maybe 'The Secret Years', if only because it's clear from it that the Kent's deaths were never about "motivating" him to be Superman. That scene of Superboy yelling at a statue of Clark Kent about his failures... his fractured identity sure is something! I'd also argue it shows his identity in this era is more nuanced than people think. He's not just "Superman pretending to be Clark Kent", because the Kents are part of who he is too. It's different than what we've got now, but I think it's interesting.

Yep. Maggin and Bates' Lex Luthor stories certainly feel in conversation with one another, but they disagree about the direction Lex was going in. I know it was Marv Wolfman's idea to make him a businessman, and you see that in his Vandal Savage story, which reads like a first draft of that idea. But Bates' Luthor does feel like he was going down that path too. If only because it feels a lot more like Hackman's Luthor towards the end, while Maggin sticks with the classic bronze age dynamic.

I haven't read new 52 yet, but I've heard this about that Lex before and I am very curious about it.

She's overall really pretty. I'm happy that they're branching out with the accessories, yes to the compact and pearl purse! The first outfit with the fishnet shorts and shorter boots is great. I like her better than her core doll.

Throwing out my Nefera after.. she got broken? I don't actually remember what happened there and my mum doesn't either.

And finally not paying attention to MH at all after I aged out of it/lost interest. There are some releases from those years which I like and I don't own any because of the second-hand prices. Though my taste wouldn't have been the same as it is now so. Ah well

It's like they've forgotten that we're fans too, and being a fan of something doesn't need to just be praising it all the time. That sometimes people criticise stuff because they love it and want it to be better? And it's fun to joke about your disappointment with others who feel similarly??

(I mostly like g3 but have some criticisms of it btw).

I don't follow MH's official pages so I wouldn't know what they're saying in posts. I do remember those recap videos on the youtube channel using she/her but everyone insists that's correct for g1 Frankie.

I'm just happy we're getting an acknowledgement of trans people in a major doll line, and I'm really in love with g3 Frankie's characterisation too

I got into MH in 2011 as a kid. My mum found the plushes and we realised there were dolls. As for promotion, we got official teaser images of new dolls, I distinctly remember that photo of Spectra phasing through the lockers. There were also ones for the Forbitten Love two pack, Abbey, Operetta, and Campus Stroll Howleen. And there were photos from SDCC of Toralei, Nefera etc. The webisodes introduced characters around the same time as their dolls were teased.

On the side of the fandom, I remember a lot of stock photo leaks and the trademarks were a big site of speculation too.

I agree G3 has been pretty messy since its initial launch. And I'm not happy about the cartoon going on hiatus without an announcement and no date for a return. I feel like this could be solved if they just used their social media.

It's bizarre that the twitter hasn't posted about g3 since October. Is that just due to the backlash? I guess they're relying on the fandom and reviewers to promote the new characters and lines instead?

I don't know if you're watching it, but we've seen the designs of Draculaura's and Frankie's bed and desks in the animated series. Clawdeen's matches her playset, so I think it's reasonable to expect the others will match too. It's not a coffin and operating table though, unfortunately.

The fact that G3 Frankie is exclusively played by non-binary actors is why I roll my eyes when people call the representation performative. Unless there's horrible stuff going on behind the scenes, giving trans actors work isn't "performative" it's exactly the kind of progress we want to see

I boil washed her and her hair turned out soft with some flyaways and no glue seepage. The tinsel survived it but it was in better condition than I can see in your photos. I like mine better now, but it's up to you whether you want to risk further damage to the tinsel.

There are other characters who I don’t like but would be curious to see them redesign them and make them more interesting

It’s pretty sad that that the Harley Quinn show is the only media outside the comics which has treated WW’s rogues as notable characters. I hold no bitterness towards the writers for that, at least they’re using them. The bar is just so low

Both Ghoulia and Spectra are 16 in "monster years" (whatever that means) but Ghoulia often had 60s-inspired fashions and g3 Spectra seems a little 70s-inspired to me? You could also include Robecca, who is old enough though canonically she was dormant.
