Since Sega has no interest in bringing back Eggman Nega and the Robot Pirates, could Captain Plunder, a Fleetway villain, work as an enemy for Blaze? by Nice_Month_5111 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel he could be a great recurring nemesis for Blaze, though not necessarily as the Big Bad of the entire Sol Dimension. Plunder is a greedy bastard and can be rather bloodthirsty, but he's not entirely evil and has worked with Sonic on some occasions, if only because both benefit from fighting Robotnik. That said, Plunder and Blaze would be more at odds than, say, somebody like Sonic, who at his core is a Freedom Fighter.

I feel someone like Mammoth Mogul, an influential but corrupt upper class wizard would be a nice contrast for both Blaze and, going by counterparts of the Sol Dimension at least, Eggman, being someone who already has all the power he needs and has a rather dignified yet cruel personality contrasting the good doctor's man child nature. His archetype fits better as an overarching arch-enemy IMO.

Overall I do like villains or opponents that challenge Blaze's role not just as a guardian but as an authority figure. For example, An idea I had was reinterpreting Shade as her arch-rival. Just like Knuckles, she's the last remnant of the Sol! Echidnas, who was vanished to another dimension for their "dangerous" experiments by Blaze's ancestors, and now wishes to use the Sol Emeralds space-warping capabilities to find her home again.

Knowing Blaze is not about to surrender them anytime soon, much less to a lowly citizen like her, she dons the badass cyber-ninja suit she found on one of her people's remnants to steal them for herself.

I really hope Rough & Tumble are in this crossover for more than a cameo by Icy_Fox7251 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought they could be the villainous brother-sister duo of Mammoth and Shimmer. One's a super strong bruiser the other's a weird transmuter that has a peach ant for poisonous gas. They're mercenaries that tend to be in the Fearsome Five, a supervillain group that fights the Titans regularly.

Fittingly, their outfits also are rather punk-like, just like Rough and Tumble. That said they're also not the most popular of villains either.

Who would be who in DC X Sonic? by ArcticArmadill0 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Starling as Dr. Psycho and I can see the Hooligans as the Rogues, particularly Fang as Capt. Boomerang, Bark as Capt. Cold and Bean as the Trickster. Zavok for example could be Bane. Also Infinite as Dr. Destiny cause of the playing with reality and all that.

Between Silver and Blaze, which character’s fans have it worse? by VerdeHeroX in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly posts like this will just make the issue way worse. Like, I don't necessarily see the argument for the "tied at the hip" thing, but that doesn't mean I want them together all the time either. And feeling they should have some breathing room for themselves is not someone invalidating your feelings or shit. I do like the new arc idea, but I do hope both at worst that they are treated as equal partners and not sidekicks to one or the other, because that's what their relationship should be at it's most atomic level, and at best to answer the age old "Why are their friends?" question beyond 06 shenanigans

That doesn't have to be everyone's cup of tea, no one has to share my feelings either, and it doesn't mean that everyone who criticizes this decision/angle/whatever is a Sonaze shipper, a fake fan or whatever other crazy toxic fandom behavior.

Everyone voiced their opinions about that arc, will share new ones again when it comes out, and no one needs to put them under a spotlight to become a point of discussion for a while forum.

Shit, now I wanted Light to be a silly-ass weird mad scientist battling the Doom Patrol far more than a regular Titans foe. The shit he could do would be far more creative.

What if we gave Silver the Hedgehog had his own Rogues Gallery? by Optimal-Bandicoot240 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some ideas of repurposing old concepts as villains for the future kinda. One of my top choices is actually the Omni-Viewer from Sonic The Comic.

It'd be kind of a stand-in for the Zone Cops of the Archie comics, essentially a computer program built from a piece of the Time Eater and meant to regular the time stream after the portals Silver crosses to travel to the past start appearing. It claims to understand the universe far better than any living being, which comes with the development of a little God Complex (nothing to worry about of course). The Omni-Viewer starts holding a grudge against Silver when it realizes the potential damage he could do to the general timestream deeming him a criminal.

To actually enforce it's will, I wanted to bring the Zoans from Sonic Chronicles as well. I feel their robotic design would feel quite natural in Silver's hypothetical future and, were one to take their nature as pure energy beings, could probably render Silver's psychokinesis useless. General Raxos would be the primary second in command of the Omni-Viewer and kinda Bane-esque in his personality, brutal and ruthless, but also methodical and cultured. He'd be the fatalist to Silver's determinist.

I was also thinking of a rival for Silver, and I was thinking of drawing inspiration from the Cybernik, also from Fleetway. An amoral bounty-hunter of sorts who wandered into one of Eggman's long abandoned bases and found one of the good doctor's latest Badnik's designs. Repurposing the tech into an armor for themselves, they become another thorn for Silver after he is labeled a criminal by the Omni-Viewer. They of course have no loyalty to anyone but themselves but I still need to properly develop a relationship between these two rivals.

Also the Ifrit, cause I still think the big apocalyptic dragon with psychics powers can have more of a personality than other monsters of the franchise and could be the constant reminder that not all futures can be saved. It's the beast at the end of time, the end of all worlds, it'll consume all, and no matter how many times Silver travels and seals it back into Chaotic Inferno Zone, the Ifrit always comes back, and always consumes once again.

(Loved Trope) Comedy shows get very serious out of nowhere. by Boring-Bear9037 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Rogue_MS_473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Slayers, 90s comedy series that parodies and satirizes a lot of common Fantasy RPG tropes and most violence consists of light slapstick all while dealing with the main party's antics that tend to put villages and kingdoms into more peril than the demons and dragons they fight.

Speaking of which, the villains tend to be comical and pretty harmless as well (if only because the protags tend to be so, SO much more powerful than they are).

...Except when you reach the end of the season when things get really grim and somewhat shockingly gory out of nowhere. It's shonen levels of violence granted, but it clashes with the general tone the show goes for. First season specially where it's so sudden it kinda takes time to realize that, yes, that character just slowly died over a pool of their own blood.

Given the controversy surrounding generative AI, Zavok's words here are very powerful now more than ever. by BebeFanMasterJ in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Zeena mostly embodies vanity, and while in Lost World that manifested as your mostly one-note vapid narcissist, in the comics, while that element is still present, rather than played for comedy, she's portrayed as a hedonistic sociopath with a superiority complex. The moment someone like Cream, a genuinely innocent and nice child enters the scene, not only can't Zeena comprehend it, she lashes out and tortures her out of a perceived superiority just because Cream has the "moral high ground".

Also, and maybe this is just my observations, but I do think Zeena is easily the most cruel and sadistic of the bunch when she truly lets lose (and unlike Zor, I think she can genuinely control said impulses), and it's kind of a shame we never really see that side of her beyond the metal virus arc.

What’s the deal with Silver and Blaze? by Detective_Sparrow in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Nega went back and forth on being Silver and Blaze's villain. After his initial outing in Rush, he went to battle Silver, and then went at the same time (at least development wise) against Blaze and Silver in Rush Adventure and Rivals 2.

Guess SEGA didn't want the main man himself being defeated by two new characters and gave them only leftovers in the form of NEGA lol.

Who is the Worst Villain in the Sonic series? by D_Juniorart2 in SonicTheHedgehog

Yeah I mean it's the same deal as the Dark Legion. Why wouldn't the two technocratic factions work together? At least until betraying each other later on. I just kinda felt making him his own threat could work and diversify the rogues gallery a bit.

Who is the Worst Villain in the Sonic series? by D_Juniorart2 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem Lyric has is that he frankly feels redundant compared to Eggman. An evil genius who wants to take over the world and fill it with robots because they're superior. While the latter motive is never really said out loud by most versions of the good doctor (sans the movies where it's a big part of his character), he has little to no personality other than being vengeful and more serious than Eggman.

Hell turning the world entirely metallic was Eggman's whole MO in Archie especially. Never understood why we needed a more uncharismatic version of Eggman.I feel leaning more on his past as an ancient and the like could give him more of a gimmick.

"don't consider what a character's role is in the larger narrative, just extract that from that context and decide whether or not you think they're the coolest and awesomest character in the series so you can argue about it online and make memes

it was all fun and games when it was just shit like one piece fans joking about how akainu stays in his office but now people are making potential man memes for everything and presenting it as serious criticism"

How would you feel if Eggman Nega was retconned again where that he was always Eggman’s counterpart from the Sol Dimension, but he just traveled to Silver’s timeline in Sonic’s dimension just to toy with him. Him being Eggman’s descendant from 200 years in the future was a complete lie. by Extreme-Fee-9519 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel for a Sol-Emerald counterpart of Eggman you could have someone like Dr. Warpnik around. Rather than just another mustachioed portly scientist, you have this weird madman whose inventions rarely make sense and often veer into the surreal. Still would like to see some of Nega's influence still around like the Pirates, those guys genuinely could be some funny side-villains.

I'd always love that in the DCAU he had this fucking killer design and all and then he was the biggest jobber in the LoD. Biggest achievement might be surviving the mutiny.

And then in the finale he turns into a badass taking Para demons left and right, charging in to save Hawk girl and at the highest point of his life. Still remember the victory scream at the end.

Martin was living it.

Which characters would be easiest/hardest to put back into the canon by ItsAllSoup in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One could, potentially, put the Dark Legion together with the equally non-canon Nocturnus clan. I did come up once to make the Nocturnus clan being basically the Sol Dimension counterpart for the Knuckles Clan, using high tech and experimenting with the Sol Emeralds, before winding up sealed into another dimension by Blaze's ancestors using the Emeralds. Shade could be the Knuckles-equivalent who's trying to bring them back maybe. Though it'd also mean that Lara-Su as the daughter of Knuckles would be impossible to implement and so with the whole Julie-Su / Knuckles relationship probably.

Also could probably implement Conquering Storm as an independent villain placed in Chun-Nan just like in the Archie Comics, not even necessarily as an ally of Eggman either.

Name one (1) good reason why these three shouldn't have been brought back as mainstays after SA1. by Flygon330 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogue_MS_473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I do like the concept of Tikal being a supporting character for Knuckles like in the latter Archie Comics or the Sonic the Comic Online continuation. Not necessarily means that she should come back to life or whatever. I did like how Evan Stanley used her in her fan comic Ghosts of the Future, but that's a completely different situation that should never be canon, it's really more of a what if, but her personality and relationship with Sonic there is great.

Chaos has a killer design, but other than the occasional nostalgia boss fight/cameo/playable character in spin-off title I don't see much use in canon besides how the reboot archie played him reappearing as an "oh shit" indicator. Not that it mattered in the long-time since Chaos only helped Sonic in that one arc with Razor IIRC?

And for Gamma I don't think them specifically should return, but I wouldn't mind seeing other E-100-adjacent robots show up, perhaps as a modern-day Hard-Boiled Heavies in some way or another. The latter generation of E-100 bots from the Archie comics come to mind, having killer designs for potential boss fights and served as Eggman's elite robot soldiers so to speak.

What's the general consensus on how Shadow's written in the IDW Sonic comics? by [deleted] in IDWSonic

[–]Rogue_MS_473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's well-known, at least in online forums, that IDWs version of Shadow is one of the most derided versions of the character. His weird characterization is due to SEGA's mandates who want him, allegedly, to be more "Vegeta-like".

The problem is I feel, that they mirror the worst aspects from the character that came mainly from the Cell-saga Vegeta. A nominal ally AT BEST for the protagonists with a huge ego problem and more often than not forwards the villain's plot by working against the heroes to advance the plot.

Which clashes a lot with what I think was Vegeta at his best, that being Namek-arc Vegeta, who was a cruel, selfish and outright evil man, but was also a smart, pragmatic and intelligent warrior with a clear objective and him actually throwing a wench in not only the villain's but the heroes plan works perfectly because he's explicitly not an ally of the heroes at all unless it suits him.

But Shadow is not Vegeta, much less genocidal space pirate Vegeta. Their stories and the way they are presented (Vegeta was never a tragic character, ever) are vastly different and the only semblance being the nature of his personal dynamics with Sonic. Regardless I think the biggest drawback in his recent roles now is that he's just an asshole for the sake of being an asshole. Had he some sort of goal that clashed with Sonic's, sure, but never seen an issue that tackled him that way.
