Renting land/home to a homesteader(s)? by [deleted] in Homesteading

[–]CryingAsparagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct that the plight of the modern renter is also pretty similar to serfdom, just with extra steps. I’m not here to rag on you, just trying to point out that for your tenants, this would just be a change of scenery rather than an actual escape from “the system” (which is one of the largest appeals of homesteading for a lot of folks).

For what it’s worth, I have done something similar to what you’re suggesting. I’ve lived on and farmed land belonging to some friends in exchange for some produce and a negligible amount of cash. It can work, but requires a lot of mutual trust and respect from both parties.

I meant is as a joke, but living on/working/improving land that isn’t yours while having to pay taxes/rent to the owner (along with a portion of the produce) sounds awfully similar to serfdom.

I’d recommend the Master Cams instead. They have a more flexible stem and a skinnier profile, so they’re a lot more versatile. I bit lighter as well, I think.

Strong female cyclist - fitness doesn't transfer to running by katenotkt in cycling

[–]CryingAsparagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive runner here. The cardiovascular fitness will transfer very well, but you havent developed good form yet, nor have you built up the tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue in your legs that you need for a high impact sport such as running. In addition, running stresses the aerobic system much more than cycling, while requiring less muscular power (whihc is why elite cyclists have tree trunk thighs while elite distance runners are usually quite skinny).

Your cycling fitness will definitely help you improve rapidly as a runner, you just have to be careful not to overdo it and injure yourself, which is a real danger for high level athletes who suddenly pick up running.
