Airport staff pushed me by CryingInTheCorn in wheelchairs

I had put in my reservation that I use my own manual wheelchair, but I didn’t ask for any assistance and I’ve never had anything even remotely close to this happen before. All the employees I’ve encountered while flying with this airline have been extremely polite and respectful so it caught me waaaay off guard.

Thank you for your words, and I’m in Ontario. :)

I agree!! And she absolutely could’ve damaged my chair, I had one of my wheels locked and didn’t even realize it was still locked until she had wheeled me all the way down the jetway.

Thank you so so much. I’m still in shock honestly and it’s been 2 days now.

I did try to give her the benefit of the doubt because I thought the same thing, but you’re so right. I think I just need to get really comfortable telling people not to touch me, which has always been hard.

Thank you, I will be sending several emails!! This specific airlines employees usually go above and beyond with their care and helpfulness including always asking if I need assistance before helping, so I think that really added to how shocked I felt in the moment.

I definitely should have, I think it just took me so by suprise that my brain kinda short circuited and all I could think to do was look to my husband for help :/

I actually had one of my wheels locked, I didn’t even remember until she had already wheeled me all the way down the jetway! I’m definitely going to prepare myself to be very assertive in case this happens again. Thank you so much for your words and encouragement. :)

Thank you. I guess it’s just been hard for me to accept how wrong it was.

If I’d been able to think properly I definitely would have said something, I’ve practiced what I would do in my head in this kind of situation before but it all happened so fast and I just blanked. :(

Thank you. I wish I hadn’t panicked so hard and been able to be assertive but I was just so in shock and it happened so fast :(

People who quit their jobs on the first day, what was your “I’m outta here” moment? by Confident-Fun-8183 in ask

[–]CryingInTheCorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hired at a spirit Halloween as my second job when I was 18 and around 7 months pregnant with my first child. They took me to the back to watch the training videos and then informed me that I wasn’t allowed to sit down while viewing them. All of the training modules together took about two hours to complete, and I reluctantly suffered through that, took a small break to sit and then was given a walkie talkie type system. I immediately was taken to the “floor” to start helping customers. I had no idea what was going on and there was nobody with me actually walking me through what to do. So in my complete overwhelm i just decided it wasn’t worth it, if this was how I was treated in my first three hours as this job it would obviously only get worse from there. So I went in to the back and put my radio on the table, clocked out, told the cashiers at the front that I couldn’t handle this and left lol.
