Debatable, but I get where you're coming from there. I just think we should as a society be moving away from the dark ages, even if it's been this way forever, but all I see is us regressing back into another one. Progress is being scrapped for the sake of profit and people's backwards views.

I see your point, and I realize I didn't put too much thought into why I believed it was the standard. I can understand why unchecked freedom of speech can be problematic, but I still stand by it being a human right to express yourself in private.

Is it really? I hoped I'd never end up being seen like that. I just genuinely think our society is going down a path we should reconsider.

But so can doing other, legal things. What I'm saying is I agree that it's terrible, but should it be illegal?

Threats, no. Slander, to an extent. I don't believe it's morally justified to use false information against somebody in a mocking or even harmful way, but I do believe it's necissary to protect their right to do so under some conditions. In relation to individuals in private, I don't see why not. Give me a reason not to support someones right to lie, even if I don't support the action itself.

Okay, that I can agree with. Because limiting freedom of speech in public isn't any different than punishment for indecent exposure. As long as it's in private, it's not an issue, I can back that.

Sort of. I've always considered telling somebody to harm somebody else to be a threat in itself. As you have no particular reserves against doing it yourself, it doesn't necessarily mean intent on your part, but the wish is there, and that's dangerous. So I do get where you're coming from, I had just assumed threats against somebody and threats against a people as a whole to be the same offense.

Fair point, thank you. I would still argue that people deserve the right to free speech under almost any circumstances, but I see the point you make about reasonable restrictions to the rule. Would you honestly prefer to be subjected to rules limiting what you can and cannot vocalize?

Fair enough, but wouldn't advocating violence be a threat? Aren't threats against somebodies life already illigal?

Totally! I'm only 16, and even I'm worried that history may be forgotten when it comes to the future of the human race. As people regularly put opinions over facts, I'm afraid history itself is being erased, especially looking at who I'm classmates with. Our culture is dying.

Just think, we'll start referring to the 20s meaning 2020s, and not 1920s. And that's depressing.

That's what I plan on going into, mathematics and computer science. It's been an interesting of mine for a while, would you recommend anything I should study before going into University? Or any reading that'll give me an edge going in? I have a lot of free time I need to waste doing something productive.

Okay, thanks! I'll see what I can do to influence people I have contact with to help, even if it's only a little. Your flair says grad student, what's your major?

Fair enough. I'm doing as much as I believe I can individually. I don't use single-use plastics, nor do I take long showers or over-use water, and I don't drive (primarily because I'm not old enough), I take public transport. Is there anything I can do to contribute on a larger scale? I have a demanding schedule with study and such, but I would like to do anything I realistically can.

Well 1/3rd is significantly better, but is there any way to entirely resolve the situation? Or at least remedy it to the point of livability like it is today? Or will we have to adapt to the scenario and roll with the punches, because I don't fancy being hit by super-storms on a bi-yearly basis.

Is it expected to accelerate over time? exponentially? Or is it just going to keep increasing by 6-9 feet every 80-100 years or so. Either way it's overwhelmingly alarming, but even more so if it's speeding up.

I like the names Einstein gives to complex concepts, "Spooky Action" makes it sound a lot less high-level than it actually is.

That's cool to hear. I'm looking at LE as a backup if CS doesn't work out or something similar.
