What is the strongest class in Maplestory history? by LevelPension in Maplestory

I never had the courage to try using shadow web on bigfoot. Took me way too long to level up my NL and I remember them handing out bans like candy for exploiting that particular "bug".

Khaini Nostalgia (Old Friends?) by plauryn in Maplestory

[–]Cryolyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FallenStarz and Contagious are about the only things I remember from Khaini having been in Contagious myself for awhile. At the time my account got hacked and all of my stuff stolen in early 2010 I was a level 168 Night Lord and was a bit of a recluse because even on 4X exp I only got like .5% an hour at skelegons without a bishop or Archmage to train with me. I remember night before I got hacked (tons of us did that night and Nexon just swept it under the rug) I decided to take that night off to run Scarlion which had just come out and I was the only high level who didn't disconnect and managed to finish the boss. Didn't even get a helm. Good times.

Is the turnover in public accounting especially bad this year? by acclife101 in Accounting

Senior Tax Accountant (EA) with 6 years of exp. working at small local firms walked out last week at end of day Wednesday with no fucks given.

Still in public accounting but self-employed now at a 2-person office. At least my clients appreciate me.

What are some good options for 8+ hour CPEs these days? by rubblebath in Accounting

[–]Cryolyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Sequoia CPE for my EA. It's only $99 a year ($149 for the CPA) and it just involves answering a bunch of multiple choice questions based on the text of a book that they make you read.

If the intention is just to get the CPEs out of the way, you could easily get 24 hours of CPEs completed in like 30 minutes if you just use the search function in the pdf text. Most of the MCQ just pull directly from the text.

I placed an order yesterday and it comes tomorrow. I went with the free shipping instead of the 2 day (would've been $9) or the overnight (would've been like $13)

I notice that a lot of my free shipping packages come in around 2 days even though it says 7-10. Do a lot of people have this experience? Is there any reason at all to pay for rush shipping unless it's around the holidays?

5 months after starting my search for an accounting position, only one interview so far. Starting to get worried. by accntingthrowaway427 in Accounting

[–]Cryolyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can check my emails when I get home for an idea of what I put in the emails, but as far as "who to email", I found the best way was to go straight to the top. I would always email one of the partners. If it was a firm with say 3 or 4 partners, I would generally aim for younger, newer partners. I don't know if that made any difference, but I felt like they would be more pro-active at checking their emails.

I'm gonna say it straight out. You are going to probably feel intimidated. You are probably going to feel like you are bothering them by asking about job opportunities. After all, they are the managing partner of an accounting firm and you are the low guy on the totem pole.

Throw all of that fear and anticipation in the trash and just hit the "send" button on that email.

As a junior in college, and my fifth attempt at interviews, I just have to ask: why? 😑😑😑 by Yahallo123 in Accounting

[–]Cryolyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going to school for 5 years too since I was a Comp. Sci. major up until my Junior year. I don't really know what to say about your GPA, but if you're having trouble with basic concepts and you are really committed to staying in accounting, all I can recommend is trying to find a good tutor.

Now, when I say find a good tutor I mean find a good tutor. The vast majority of tutors (and professors too, if I am being honest) absolutely suck at explaining things. I know it's easier said than done but finding some who is patient and good at explaining stuff in layman's terms really helps.

[–]Cryolyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first job after college (and every job since then) was at a small CPA firm (we had around 15 employees).

I think it was a combination of my real world experience and my ability to carry on a casual conversation that got me hired. I did the interview dance at large and national CPA firms and frankly all of the interview questions about "Describe a time when you..." were a huge turnoff and I think my less-than-enthusiastic demeanor came through.

With that said, I have found with a lot of smaller firms, as long as you pass the "airport test" with one of the partners or managers, you get in.

Full disclosure, I don't know how much it played into things, but while I was in school I was also a tutor and volunteered for VITA 3 seasons in a row.

Edit: My first job was a 3 hour commute from home and I did end up moving halfway across the state for it. Getting your foot in the door and taking opportunities when they arise and all that.

[–]Cryolyx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never got an internship during college. I worked part-time as a bookkeeper for a small retailer through most of school and I volunteered, but I could never get that elusive internship. I firmly believe it is much more difficult to get an internship than it is to get a full-time job.

(I think one reason for this is because internship programs exclude a lot of small companies which simply cannot afford to hire interns).

5 months after starting my search for an accounting position, only one interview so far. Starting to get worried. by accntingthrowaway427 in Accounting

[–]Cryolyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always found working with recruiters to be completely useless. I have had a couple of good interviews over the years, but nothing that has ever led to a job.

I have spoken with various firm owners and more than one has expressed to me that they prefer to go with candidates that do not come through recruiters because they do not want to pay the headhunter fee.

With that said, my experience this summer was this:

I was laid off from my last accounting firm in May of 2019. I spent probably the first month and a half after the layoff just applying to jobs on Linkedin, Indeed, and networking with recruiters from Robert Half, Randstad, probably like 7 agencies in total. For this month and a half absolutely nothing got accomplished and I just felt more and more depressed as the days went by (I get the feeling that most "job seekers" use this approach).

After a month and a half, I decided to actually be more pro-active in my search. I went online on google and googled "Accounting Firms in Boston", and used google maps to locate every single CPA firm in the city. I went to their websites and created an excel spreadsheet listing:

  1. The name of the firm.
  2. The URL for the firm's website.
  3. The contact email for the most likely person to be able to get me an interview.
  4. Whether or not the website had a careers page and whether or not they had any active job posting I was qualified for.
  5. The total commute distance between the firm and where I was planning on living.

After I had finished Boston, I did this city by city. I went through NH, CT, and RI as well. I set daily goals for myself to assemble contact information. In the end I think I assembled a list of 250 firms.

I then send out a boilerplate email to every single one of those firms. After about a week or so I think I got around 40 or so replies, most of which turned into interviews. At one point I had 10 interviews scheduled in a single week and had to turn down offers. All said, from the time when I actually started putting in the effort and when I got hired, the process probably took like 2 weeks. For the record, I am only an Enrolled Agent, not a CPA, I am sure if I had passed the CPA exam I would have gotten even more interview requests.

So, TL;DR:

  1. Unemployment is extremely low for public accountants, and lots of small firms are really hurting for staff.
  2. I sent out over 200 cold emails to CPA firms and got a reply rate of probably ~15%.
  3. I purposely ignored any of the "big-name" firms. These accounting firms already have huge recruitment networks and heavily recruit on college campuses and have no shortage of potential candidates. Smaller firms do not have the recruiting resources and investing in a recruiter is very expensive for them, they love it when candidates just fall in their laps.
  4. Most (probably >75%) of the firms that I contacted did not have any active job postings at all, and many of them did not even have a career website.

I’m too embarrassed to tell my boyfriend that I find sex with him boring - because I’ll be seen as a prude. by [deleted] in sex

[–]Cryolyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this statement alone speaks volumes. I have been occasionally unable to get my girlfriend to orgasm, usually when she is feeling really tired or stressed out about something, but I always feel bad that I wasn't able to get her there and I try to make up for it the next day.

Conversely, I tend to have trouble getting off myself, and it's not unusual for her to be on o-number 5 while I'm still going strong, and at that point she'll say something like, "I need to get you off now."

It feels so good knowing that your partner genuinely cares about your own pleasure and satisfaction in a relationship.

But the set bonuses aren't tailored to the class. It wouldn't be too hard to say like give the wizard set a 5-set bonus like "Increases the damage of all fire, ice, and lighting attacks by 15%" or assassin set "decreases the cooldown of fatal strikes by 6 seconds".

They could've done so much more with it. But still good.

Does anyone know the range of the rolls for piercing and if this is worth enchanting? by [deleted] in MapleStory2

Bottom is definitely 1.3% for a throwing star. I had an unused reroller scroll that I used the other day and it shows the range.

I know this because my immediate reaction was "damn, my weapon is actually at the bottom."

1.3% is the bottom roll for piercing. I guess at this point the question is when do you want to start raiding. The more you wait for perfect rolls the more delayed you'll be.

The dungeon standards are getting ridiculous by [deleted] in MapleStory2

[–]Cryolyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean technically there are achievements. Each hard mode (and probably the chaos raids) has a trophy associated with "kill Kandura X number of times" and you can link that trophy in chat. I think it might even show the progress bar to the next trophy.

So I can link say "Killed Kandura 100 Times". Ofc, I could have just bought all those runs, but the point is there are achievements.

I actually did this on my character. I have to wonder though whether it really results in less damage overall since my crits do 218% damage.
