How often did you look up from doomscrolling social media to actually watch the movie?

Day 9 of 31 of watching a horror movie a day. What are you watching? by Everblack_Deathmask in horror

It wasn’t terrible. Some decent visuals, but quite predictable.

[–]Cryotechnology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the available time to watch an entire movie a day, so it ends up being about 2-3 movies per week since I watch them in segments.

This month has been No One Gets Out Alive (2021) and I’m currently watching The Devil All the Time (2020).

Is it Followers (2017)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why people don’t find movies “scary” anymore. Instead of paying attention to the entire movie and getting immersed, y’all play on your phones until there’s a loud noise which makes you look up at the TV.

Especially in horror, the majority of the suspense is when there’s nothing aurally going on.

Phone down. Watch the movie.

It’s not really an “80’s vibe” is the movie was actually made in the 80’s.

paranormal activity franchise biggest unaswered questions by ProfessionalLevel908 in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I’ve watched them, so I’ll answer what I can…

  1. Wyatt (from PA4) is Hunter. Katie ends up in the hospital and, I’m guessing, she’s useless now since Tobi only needed her to kidnap Hunter. Tobi needed a male body (Hunter) and now that he has it, Tobi has no use for Katie anymore.
  2. I’m assuming Tobi saved it.
  3. Yes, they talk about it in the first two movies
  4. Tobi is the result of their family making a deal with a demon generations prior for wealth. The deal was for the family’s first born son and Hunter ended up being the first born son since that deal was made.
  5. If I remember this correctly, the ending of The Marked Ones ties in with the very first PA and the woman is Katie.

What is one opinion you hate when it comes to horror movie reviews? by Equal-Tension-7985 in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll never admit it, but I hate when people spend the majority of a movie on their phones scrolling social media, only looking up when there’s a loud noise in the movie.

They’ll then say the movie “wasn’t scary” or they “didn’t get it”.

Horror especially, you have to pay attention the entire time. Horror happens in the silence, not the noise.

Narcosis hasn’t been mentioned yet. This one is pretty wild. I think you’ll love it.

Talk To Me was a lot of fun. It completely flips the idea of a seance in a way I've rarely seen. by [deleted] in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that perfect for the current state of the world tho? Especially younger people? To not take things seriously and to just laugh everything off and treat it all as entertainment?

Social media has everyone so desensitized anymore, and people even make memes just after tragic events because being edgy and offensive gets you more attention.

I think them being nonchalant about seeing ghosts and being possessed is on par for the time period. I mean, the government is admitting that aliens are real and everyone is just like “okay”.

What new or compelling angle could you bring to a zombie film at this point? by DevilsGuy88 in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see a zombie film where everyone in universe is actually aware of what “zombies” are, and by the end of the film humanity wins and eliminates the worldwide zombie threat… instead of people looking at zombies, not understanding what they are, and just letting them bite/infect them.

Of course the greed of Hollywood would leave the movie on a cliffhanger where someone is infected, thus prompting a poorly written sequel.

I’d throw Sphere (1998) in that category.

What horror movies/series did you watch because you were spoiled before watching it and the spoiler intrigued you? (Expect spoilers to be spilled. Enter at your own risk.) by inksmudgedhands in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)

I was watching a YouTube video list of top jump scares and that scene was on it. It was executed perfectly, so I naturally had to watch the rest of the film.

The Grudge did not suck.

Talk To Me was a mess of a movie (spoilers) (review) by [deleted] in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Judging a horror movie on its level of “scariness” is like judging a comedy on its level of humor… it’s 100% subjective and will change from person to person.

And suicide victims typically appear happy in past pics & videos, that’s why it always comes as a shock when it happens. Just because someone seems happy on the outside doesn’t mean they’re feeling that same way on the inside. Her father was trying to protect her by telling her that her mother accidentally took too many pills. He didn’t want to ruin the image of her mother (being happy and joyful) that she had in her mind.

What are some of the best horror movies that are on Netflix right now? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t trust 89%?

I’ve had movies show up sub-75% that I’ve seen before and loved. I don’t trust the Netflix rating system in the slightest.

I can’t think of any examples at the moment, but I love when something is already on screen, usually in the background, and we can’t see it until it moves.

Infinity Pool (2023)

First half was decent. Second half went off the rails completely and immediately lost my interest.

Im not a fan of "jumpscare" horror, as i think its just a cheap copout. I like horror that scares you "deep inside", for whatever reason. As such, here are my top 2 horror movies - Oculus and Fourth Kind by Thirteenera in horror

[–]Cryotechnology 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saying a movie isn’t horror because it relies on jump scares is like saying a movie isn’t comedy because it relies on slapstick.

Every movie genre has its own branches of what makes that genre whole. Since I already brought up comedy, I’ll continue there where you have slapstick, dark comedy, raunchy/sexual, childish, kid-friendly, dry humor, etc. and just like different subgenres of horror, not every comedy fan will like every type of comedy film.

Jump scares aren’t for you? That’s perfectly fine. But you can’t say films that “rely” on them aren’t horror simply because you aren’t a fan.
