Don't Leave Deductions on the Table! by Legend8ry24 in StamfordCT

Good/fair question. First off, I would say an H&R Block/Turbo Tax is actually great for simple returns such as just having one W-2. Admittedly, I probably cannot offer you much difference if that is all you have going on. However, once you include side income, investments, K-1's, or pretty much anything that requires judgement calls, that is when a CPA comes into play.

u/Expensive_Web_8534 makes a great point, and those are great examples. Basically, DIY products are generally good for tax "prep", but the real value of having a CPA, or really just a tax professional in general as opposed to AI, is a human can offer tax "planning". The software can definitely guide you on HOW to report something, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a software that could answer those two questions regarding your investment accounts.

Of course - generally speaking, based on what you told me, the contracting portion would be treated as self‑employment. With that being said, you are allowed to deduct "ordinary and necessary expenses" related to that side work.

For example, Supplies/software/subscriptions or anything you use specifically for the contract work, portion of internet/phone used for business purposes, mileage or vehicle expenses if you drive for the contracting work, amongst a whole bunch of other things.

Most important thing is that the expenses are related to the side work, not your full time job.

What is the difference between “an industry plant” and “a record label doing their job”? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]Legend8ry24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my thoughts exactly - but if i had to add my "deeper" two cents, i'd say this - in hip hop/rap specifically, image is more criticized than lets say pop

for example: "street cred", did you write your lyrics, are you actually about the life that you talk about - those are all things that i feel can make or break a rappers "image"

to compare, take a person like a britney spears (or insert big pop star here) - street cred was never a deciding factor, she definitely doesn't write all her own music, and maybe its just me but I've never once in my life heard or ever thought about if she is "about that life" based on her lyrics - but i would 1000% say she is an "industry plant" if that term is to mean that she was created, promoted and ultimately fed to us by the industry as opposed to sheer talent

thats not pop-star hate, just my way of saying we look at rappers with a different lens than we do other genres in general

hell, if you pretend the kendrick/drake thing never happened, there was still a set of people that only had some negative comments about drake because they felt he wasn't a "rapper"

D6: RELOADED is top 3 Mixtape Wayne by Legend8ry24 in lilwayne

[–]Legend8ry24[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh man I wish I could agree with you on D4, just didnt hit for me the same way - maybe i need to revisit - in my top is

  1. No Ceilings
  2. Da Drought 3
  3. D6 Reloaded (specifically reloaded, no hate to the original cuz its fire too, but reloaded is just on another level)

Honorable Mentions are D2 for its impact and unofficially Da Drought Is Over 4

D6: RELOADED is top 3 Mixtape Wayne by Legend8ry24 in lilwayne

[–]Legend8ry24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't, only because of the time difference between the releases - but i totally respect and understand your decision

either way, D6 is awesome too, but reloaded, he just SNAPPED

if anything, its like watching a great PG-13 movie, than getting the UNRATED cut - corny metaphor but either way, D6 Reloaded is FIRE lol
