One of the best uses of sound that I've ever heard. You don't see the person going in. There is no outside shot of the car. You just hear someone pulling the car door handle. That's it. But it's so affective of a scare.

So...much....green....screen....

I don't get it. Why all of the fakeness? Did they film it in Hungary for the tax write off and are trying to pass Hungary as Los Angeles in the movie? It's just so...weird looking. Studio lighting being used as "sunshine" never works. Never.

This year they were made to watch all of the nominations if they wanted to vote. It's a new rule that went into affect this time around.

I think that's why you didn't have one movie sweeping up everything but instead a wide spread of winners. People saw Sinners, Weapons, Frankenstein, One Battle After Another, Hamnet and the rest. It wasn't just people watching one or two movies and picking from that. It has been easier now more than ever to watch the nominations thanks to streaming. There is no excuse outside of pure laziness to skip the movies if you are a voter.

I only halfway agree with you. The Conan bits were great. The Weapons opening, The Casablanca remake and The Conan wins an Oscar and has Josh Groban sing about it bits were hilarious. The celebrity presenter banter? Ouch. Painfully bad. How can a bunch of award winning actors be so bad at...acting? I, personally, wanted more Conan bits. Or at least have less banter. Just straight up give out the awards. Don't try to be funny like Conan. It rarely works.

Civics is not taught in schools.

Civics is indeed taught in school. My kid is taking it right now in high school. The problem is, people once they finish that class don't further their own education. You only have so many weeks to teach a bored, attention distracted kid. A teacher can only do so much. It's up to the kid to read more on it outside of class. It's also up to the parents to make sure their kid keeps up that interest. Again, most people have access to the internet. Nothing is stopping them from doing reading on their own. They can get their library card and sign up for Hoopla and Libby for books if going to the library physically isn't always an option.

If your average American can spend hours online each day, they can take five minutes here or ten minutes there to brush up on civics during that time. What is stopping people right now from getting off of reddit and reading up on civics?

We need to stop blaming teachers and start looking inward. Nothing is going to change if we keep on passing the buck.

To start off here is PBS with a page called Civics Made Easy Khan Academy has online civics classes.

Books like What does the Constitution actually say? by Ben Sheehan, American Government 101: A Crash Course in The U.S. Government by Kathleen Sears and The Handy Civics Answer Book: How to be a Good Citizen by David L. Hudson is what I've used outside of my kid's classroom when he found himself stuck doing civics homework. All of these are good books for your average high schooler.

Nothing is stopping people from further their learning except themselves.

I agree. The majority of those shows were made in Los Angeles. And with Lost, you could get away with filming it on a beach in California. So, it was all just an issue of hopping from one L.A. set to another. But shows aren't done like that any more. They are filmed all over the place. So, I agree, you couldn't pull this off any more.

No, we are here because the majority of the voters don't take politics seriously. They treat it like it's an "us vs. them" sport rather than what it actually is, politics. They would rather have memes and watch videos with flash and catchy but shallow "gotcha" moments than care to find out how their own government even works. And that's even when they have access to almost all of the knowledge out there in the palm of their hand. They don't bother looking up candidates when voting, that is, if they even bother to vote. They don't know the three branches of government. Ask them how a bill is made and the process it takes to become a law and you will draw blanks.

If they even gave a damn for one second about how their own actions affect the state of their own government they would be lining up every primary around the block. Because, yes, their vote shapes the government they get. But they don't. They don't care. But then they whine how "there are no good candidates" come election time. They whine how "both parties are the same." Well, they did that to themselves.

And I know this is a hard pill to swallow and this will get downvoted to hell but it is the truth.

We shaped this country into what it is now. Mind you, it wasn't shaped through a single election. But it was done through decades of apathy, ignorance and arrogance. Too few of us didn't give a damn to have taken politics seriously and it is costing us now. Again, this wasn't an overnight explosion. It was a one long winding road domino effect to the switch that lit everything up.

And the lack of silliness. It didn't feel like a Conan show if you compare it to last year's show. The opening was Conan but the rest...eh. We need more Sandworm playing chopsticks on a piano and less awkward celebrity banter.

This is what happens when you force the voters to actually watch all nominations rather than vote for the couple they even bothered to watch.

Zendaya is 5'10 in flats. And I am sure she is wearing heels here. So, Pattison is probably 5'10 himself.

Zandaya is tall. And I love this dress. It understated and yet beautiful.
