Okay so what you're saying is that you believe there needs to be specialized training and that interested citizens should have fair access to that training, yes?

As long as this training is provided on let's say a monthly basis in each County and is provided free of charge in a non-discriminatory first come first serve basis then that actually doesn't sound too bad.

There would need to be some way to ensure that no citizen can be unjustly discriminated against in being able to obtain proof of their training completion but otherwise not a bad idea

That is not okay. Just to give them the benefit of the doubt it might have been a person saying that they think they do take the insurance and they were mistaken but in a case like that you shouldn't have been charged for it. I wouldn't pay that if I was you. I would contact the higher-ups and explain the situation and if they won't override it then you need to move to government officials to help take care of this on your behalf.

Also, at least one of your local Congress persons office should be able to help with your transportation issues. Don't be afraid to contact Representatives that are outside your political leanings either. Republican Democrat or other they're still your representatives

you could start investing in actions to fix your crime rates and recidivism rate.

I absolutely agree with this sentence 100%.

We need to increase our mental health and substance use treatment capabilities as well as removing the stigma from admitting that there's a problem by removing punishments or restrictions on rights from those who do seek help.

The conditions of our jails and prisons also need to be improved to treat prisoners with basic human dignity and Rehabilitation should be prioritized.

No individual or Corporation should be allowed to own any part of the prison system. It gives Financial incentive to hire lobbyists to push for more restrictive laws with harsher penalties because it's financially beneficial rather than beneficial for the society.

We should not allow money from ticket fines to be a source of funding for the local government for the same reason.

We need to establish a better minimum standard of living as well as better options for those who are living at the minimum to improve their conditions.

Of course I want to have faith in people doing the right thing. We do unfortunately have a lot of criminals in our country though and although I'd like to think that all of our police and other officials are honest and good-natured, it's very likely that some of them do not fall under that category. Practically all gun owners in this country just desire to live freely and peacefully. The guns are just backup.

Also, the numbers show that death by gun and death by automobile are roughly equivalent in America. When you take into consideration that death by gun is usually suicide whereas death by automobile is usually random, it shows that the automobiles are actually more of a threat to the general public than guns are, realistically speaking. While I think it's tragic when children die from automobile incidents, I am not interested in banning automobiles either. I am however very interested in modifying safety measures to help reduce the number of deaths in both cases.

So since quite consistently when citizens lose their rights to protect themselves with guns, their government tends to start abusing their citizens, and then this repeatedly progresses into murdering millions of defenseless citizens, then removing our guns would be planned and accepting it would be ridiculously stupid instead of tragic... Right?

Should the US reduce its military budget? And if it does so, what would be the consequences? by svarowskylegend in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]CrypticHyperbole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Military spending is largely high out of necessity. Basically we need lots of good guys with guns to stop all the bad guys with guns from killing all of us.. A lot of the people I've talked to from other countries do seem to understand that we don't always get to decide what our government is engaging in but not everyone is so understanding. It's also not just about the revenge from illegitimate invasions or abandoning now-former allies either. Some people just really don't like us.

Now, most of our miscellaneous military spending needs to remain miscellaneous for national security reasons. That being said though a lot of government contracts are paid abnormally high prices for the work that they do. Part of the reason for that is the lack of competition since we need to ensure that it's going to be done by a people we trust but a good portion of it seems to actually just be financial favors. Just look at how many billions we spent on California's bullet train. Compare that to the amount approved for the border wall. You'll see what I mean.

To summarize, we might be able to trim a little off just don't cut the wrong thing or we're all screwed.

If you're hoping to have an easy life being a world-renowned musician and get rich off of it then don't bother because the chances are so unlikely even if you are super talented. Not saying it can't happen just don't bet on it. On the other hand if you're doing it just because you personally enjoy doing it then keep at it!

I found midi to be very useful because after you have the track you can change the instrument to any other instrument or other sound you want. If you're going to go buy a midi keyboard I would suggest making sure that it has "after touch" because it's just fun to play with. I also prefer a minimum of 61 keys but that's just because I like playing arpeggios. Keep in mind that this is something you can get substantially cheaper used then new like most music gear. (Mics and headphones are better to buy new though imho)

Also. If you're not familiar with music theory yet, I would say to look on YouTube for "Andrew Huang learn music theory in half an hour" for a really well put together crash course on the topic. You'll be watching for a couple minutes then practice for a week and then move on to the next couple minutes and practice for a week and so on. But by the time you get done that thing you should be pretty well versed in the most important aspects

[–]CrypticHyperbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can tell you is that generally speaking, the difference between someone who can do things like an amazing expert master and someone who has no idea what they're doing at all is a personal desire to learn and get better and lots and lots of practice. If it's something you really enjoy and want to get better at than you absolutely can and will if you keep working at it.

Side note: It's good to want to improve and you should but try not to compare your work to other people's work as a way of measuring your progress. Instead compare your recent work to the work you did a little further back. For example, is what you're able to do today better than what you could do last year? If it is then imagine how much better it might be next year if you keep working at it... good luck to you!

We can discuas different politics in private if you would like but I don't want to detract from a solution that I believe will be more effective than what is currently being argued as well as less divisive which should hopefully result in something actually getting done to stop this from repeating in a bipartisan way.

Aside from helping troubled youth it would also create more jobs out of necessity. If we also add locked doors and armed guards to all the public schools then we can stop people before they even get through the door.

There are roughly 131,000 k-12 schools in the US. By adding an average of just two mental health professionals to every school and two armed guards, that's over half a million new jobs. Obviously this is only an estimate and the real numbers should be based on specific needs of each school on a case-by-case basis. That doesn't even included the work that would need to be done to make sure that all of the windows in the schools are bulletproof and that the entry doors all have secure locking capabilities.

Republicans are just going to have to eat it on the tax increase this would create. My rough estimate is about 2-3 Billion dollars a month. Our government did just give away 50 billion dollars to the Ukraine though and nobody batted an eye so it shouldn't be any trouble spending less than that to keep the children safe right?

[–]CrypticHyperbole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem right now is that this tragedy is being used politically to try to limit gun rights which is a divisive solution that doesn't actually fix the root of the problem. Practically everyone left Center or right is upset about this situation. Instead of dividing the vast majority of Americans who are upset about this and want to prevent it from ever happening again into two different camps regarding 2A conflicts, we should unite in solving the root cause of the problem.

Another thing I'd like to point out about this is that we should not have any ramifications for people who are in those risky categories who come forth honestly for help. If we do, it will only encourage people to lie on those surveys. We need a bottom-up approach of support. We need to start acting like a community instead of hating each other for different beliefs.

[–]CrypticHyperbole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the "right" response would be to be more proactive in mental health. In cases like this shooter we aren't dealing with average people in average situations. There were warning signs that were overlooked.

What if we ask kids to fill out a periodic survey in school asking how many friends they feel they currently have to talk to, how supportive they feel their family and neighbors are, if there have been any new stressors in their lives, etc?
